Anwar sent to Hospital for DNA test?

The police have taken PKR de facto Anwar Ibrahim to Hospital Kuala Lumpur. It is believed that the opposition leader will undergo DNA tests.

Anwar arrived at the hospital's emergency unit at about 8.50pm. Some 40 police personnel have been deployed in the area.

The politician was later taken to the hospital's royal ward.

Meanwhile, PKR supreme council member and Selangor exco Dr Xavier Jeyakumar confirmed that Anwar and his lawyer R Sivarasa have gone to the hospital.

Anwar is expected to be brought back to the police headquarters in about an hour.

At the afternoon parliamentary debate today, it is observed that both Khairy Jamaluddin and Mukhriz Mahathir already had the police report made by Saiful and also had read the medical reports of Saiful; on the contrary, Anwar and his family had not been given a copy of these reports. That's funny and puzzling!!!

Wan Azizah Wan Ismail (PKR-Permatang Pauh) asked Khairy how he had come to know the police was in need of her husband's DNA sample.

“How does Rembau know the content of the police report when we, the affected party, have not gotten hold of the police report?” she asked.

Khairy shot back by pointing out that the police investigation against Anwar was related to a sodomy charge, and thus DNA would be required as part of the probe.

“Sodomy allegations indicate that there is anal intercourse, that there was penetration. So you need DNA to prove (that the act took place),” he said.

Mukhriz rubbed insult to injury when he said he believed the truth in the “despicable” crime allegedly committed by Anwar.

Muhkriz: “I believe that Anwar did it! He did that despicable thing! That’s why I challenge, as Rembau did just now - give the DNA!”

He also slammed Pakatan Rakyat Muslims MPs for insisting on more stringent standards of evidence as contained in Islamic laws for accusations of sexual violations.

Mukhriz: “There are leaders over there who are demanding for four witnesses (to the alleged act of sodomy). How can there be four witnesses? They would have sinned if they saw the commission of the act but did not do anything to stop it!”

DNA test?

Wait, isn't the DNA test ALREADY done back then? When TM+IGP+A.P nailed Anwar?

All Anwar DNA are unlikely to mutate in 10 years, so what the F*CK they want to conduct "yet another" DNA test? You mean all parties LOST the record AGAIN? On this high profile man?

Malaysia boleh!

Hasilox,

hahaha...you got a fun way to present a hypothesis.

Moo_t,

Although Anwar may have records of his DNA previously, legally it is a necessity to procure a current DNA to analyze it on another case.

If truly the DNA match in the current test then Anwar would be charged. The concern is about implants and fabrications of evidence which is hard to discern as it is entirely left to the professional medical experts to do their duties in accordance with the law. There may be cause of concern but we can't do anything but to put our trust in the medical experts who are bound by a duty of care and integrity.

Suealeen,

I personally believed that it is in the best interest of Anwar to have his DNA taken and clarified to prove his innocence.

Pakar DNA,

Let's be positive about this issue.

Timothy-Dalton,

This is a convenience; come Dec and the whole things will change the relationship.

Suzy,

Anwar is innocent until proven guilty; it is necessary for his DNA to be tested to clear his name. Let's assume that the medical experts will act professionally and ethically.

DSAI do not have to submit any samples for DNA.
Why the CID polis dont ask the "tukang angkat tilam aka IGP musang" .
10 years ago musang found so many stains on mattress and musang carried the mattress and not a DNA test was done?
OK , the government and polis can make some of us believe.
They are fools , but we are not.
No datas of DSAI DNAs 10 years ago?
Something is fishy.

from my observation,DSAI will not walk out of this allegation.
its too obvious what they had in mind.
this is the price DSAI have to pay for trying to break their rice bowl.
welcome to "Mafia"land.

I'm no legal expert, but isn't there the double jeopardy rule, that u cannot be tried twice for the crime on the same set of facts. Now this obviously involves a different set of facts, so I really don't think it's proper / legally permissible to use back the same DNA sample. Mr KJ, bless his soul, made a valid point about DNA sample expected to be taken though, and while we're there, shame on Mukhriz. I regret the way in which Anwar was taken. Strategically speaking, and indulge me Mave, one ground for arguing this cannot be (yet another) government's conspiracy, this arrest is very obviously foolish and they ARE doing Anwar a huge favour to vindicate him (yet again, again). It's been almost a month (?) since Saiful lodged the report, I do hope this investigation has merits behind it. In any case, their evidence better be water-tight if they're to proceed with charges, don't repeat the 98 saga. And I sure hope they (police, AG's team) get their act together this time.

no wonder AG's team lost P Batu Putih, expert only in assholes cases.

SHIT

mave,

u r right about the fact that we have to depend on the integrity of the medical experts and other experts in getting evidence and stuff. but seriously mave... u really positive about tat? well, i don't anymore. esp when IGP and AG is involved in the mudsling.

sorry. and it's a shame for malaysia and we malaysian.

The police detained DSAI in the police cells because they want to take his hair samples that may have fallen while he was asleep and say that they were found in the condo. Can someone warn DSAI of that NOW and also his lawyers about it? Do it now and now.

Khun Pana,

You may need to understand the procedures and rules of evidence law. It's not about 10 years ago and its DNA; it's about the present case and the need of evidence to support an investigation.

Xonar,

I don't think this is fair comment; though this is generally what was feared.

Tanie,

Double Jeopardy Rule is about forbidding an accused to be tried for the same crime on the same set of facts. But this is another crime though similar; example: a robber who rob for the 2nd time at the same.

Maverick SM said...

Shit,

Cannot equate that two cases. You are jestie, I presumed.

CK,

I think we should not be too pessimistic; this is a country ruled by the Rule of Law and natural justice. We should not be too pessimistic.

Francis,

You are talking nonsense.

Francis,

Watch CSI! DNA test is conducted to rule out suspects.

So what's Anwar's problem? Dun wanna give DNA, dun wanna 'angkat sumpah dengan Quran.'

If I am innocent, I have nothing to hide.

I dont know whats the fuss with what KJ and Mukhriz said that riddled Wan Aziziah. It is logical and rasional. No hanky panky.

An anon said, why fear and whats the problem wit having a dna done?

Anonymous said...

Just check out wikipedia on DNA test.
Interesting reading :)

And DNA technology keep advancing.

And I agree that, the DNA test might be just a (sadly) cover up to plant evidence.

Anonymous said...

Sorry Mave, think I didn't explain myself clear enough. What I meant is,the doublt jeopardy rule is in place to make sure a same person is not convicted for the same crime twice. not directly related to this rule, but my point is that, it will be really improper to use back the same DNA sample from the previous case.

Kalau dah betul tak salah, yang takut sangat nak bagi DNA sample tu buat apa? Takkan sebab takut jarum kot..

Does the ugly guy Saiful turn on anybody? Is he so sexy that Anwar cannot resist him? P-l-e-a-s-e they should have chosen a better looking actor!

Warrior2,

For as long as you closed your mind to the pain and sufferings of others while you concurred to make others suffer for the interest of a party you preferred, then all seems right for the powerful ones who desired the outcome.

I have no interest in what happens to Anwar, and honestly, I don't care a damn what happen to him: I just am perplexed at how Umno destroy their own under the name of Allah while those who claim to be Muslims looks and nod in favor of such dubious and questionable behaviors.

Moo_t,

I did check and posted on it.

Tanie,

The authority are not using the same DNA samples as the blood samples previously taken was not intended for DNA test purpose. Now, they are trying to get one.

Wak Mingan,

You may not had suffered from a possible implant of evidence and if you are Anwar's children I think you will not say the same.

According to a Bloomberg reporter (http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601039&sid=acAylQZiaLBA&refer=home)Saiful claimed to have been sodomised on EIGHT (8) occasions!!
I wonder if they will get any Sg Buloh prisoners to say they too were sodomised!
