PRESS STATEMENT BY THE SULTAN OF SELANGOR

Following is the full statement by the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, over the controversy involving Bukit Lanjan state assemblyman Elizabeth Wong, issued by his private secretary, Datuk Mohamad Munir Bani.

I am pleased to inform that Yang Amat Berhormat Tan Sri Dato'' Abdul Khalid Bin Ibrahim, the Dato'' Menteri Besar Selangor has sought an audience with His Royal Highness, The Sultan of Selangor, on Wednesday, 25th February 2009 and duly informed His Royal Highness on the political development and the issue which involved Yang Berhormat Elizabeth Wong Keat Ping, the Selangor State Assemblyman for Bukit Lanjan who is also the State Selangor Exco Member.

His Royal Highness, The Sultan of Selangor, has commanded me to inform that His Royal Highness could not offer any guidance or advice to the Yang Berhormat Dato'' Menteri Besar of Selangor in the matter related to the issue of Yang Berhormat Elizabeth Wong Keat Ping as it was still under police investigation and it involved her political position.

It is His Royal Highness'' stance as the Sultan of Selangor to be above politics. His Royal Highness believes that whatever decision that is going to be made by the Yang Amat Berhormat Dato'' Menteri Besar of Selangor will made with accurateness, fair and with wisdom by taking into consideration the interest of the Rakyat in particular and the State of Selangor generally.

His Royal Highness is upset and worried as of late the intrusion of someone''s privacy and private rights was being used to destroy one's dignity and reputation. It is a sad thing as one''s life and private rights were being made public and subject to public scrutiny by publicising in the mass media.

To Yang Berhormat Elizabeth Wong, His Royal Highness felt sad and sympathised with her as to the unfortunate event she had suffered and hoped that Yang Berhormat Elizabeth Wong will remain calm and be patient in continuing with her life henceforth.

MB Khalid cowed & carred!

Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim will be charged in connection with the allegation that he abused his power over the expense incurred for the maintenance of a luxury car and the distribution of cows.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief Ahmad Said Hamdan said there is strong evidence in relation to the case.

Umno's watchdog had filed a MACC report accusing Khalid of using public funds to maintain the vehicle.

On the cow issue, Khalid was accused of misusing RM110,400 of state funds for the purchase of cattle for his Bandar Tun Razak parliamentary constituency in conjunction with the Hari Raya Korban celebrations.

I am not sure of the cow-thing, but Khalid, as a rich man and wanting to use his personal car for official duties should have known that any car maintenance bills cannot be charged to the government as it can be viewed as inappropriate and contextually an abuse of his position. The cost of maintenance of Proton Perdana should be far less than the cost of maintaining a Lexus. Of course, the Lexus is a new car and the Proton Perdana belonging to the State government is old. But the essence is confidence in the right-minded thinking person. Paradoxically, we don't have those thinking person that can differentiate between corruption and misappropriation. We must observed that what is right is what we have to accept as right when told by those in power; Khalid is only a state chief minister, not the PM. So, he should be conscious of that.

As regards the cow, if what Khalid did was wrong, then those who consumed it must also be wrong. Is this statement a rule of law or rule of moral law? It is neither; for we have no more moral laws; we have laws, and morality is now a subjective definition and interpretation, ssubjected to those who have big mouth and unused brains.

A Kedah delegate to the PKR Youth congress called on members of the wing to live up to their to multiracial tag and eliminate racism in themselves.

Khairul Nizam Mohd Razali, from Padang Serai, said he had been raised since childhood with all sorts of stereotypes and presumptions about other ethnic communities.

Among these was the belief that the Chinese store weapons in their houses and, therefore, pose danger to the security and safety of the Malays, he said.

He was also told that when a Chinese dies, his or her identity card is kept so that it can be taken up by a migrant from mainland China, who are “coming in droves to seize this country away from us”.

However, Khairul said his involvement in the reformasi movement and activism with PKR members and activists from other ethnic communities have allowed him to see that such notions are false.

He said these falsehoods were created and perpetuated by Umno and Barisan Nasional’s other component parties in order to keep the communities divided and distrustful of each other.

“This is among the political games of Umno and BN to scare Malays. They give us sweeping statements about other communities. But what have they done for us? What have they given to us up until now?

“They have given us only propaganda. The MCA would tell the Chinese that if they enter PAS, they have to be circumcised.

"Indians are told that if they join the opposition parties, they cannot drink alcohol.”

Urging party members of all races to confront these and other myths and erase them from their minds, Khairul said: “If we do not do this, how can we expect the people behind us to do so? If we can do this, then the whole country will fall to us.”

About 600 Youth delegates responded with shouts of approval and applause.

Meanwhile, PKR Youth has urged the leaders of the five Pakatan Rakyat-led states to honour the opposition front’s election pledge to get rid of ‘Barisan Nasional elements’ in their administration.

“The people want us to have a total clean-out to eliminate the influence and corrupt practice of BN-Umno in the states,” Youth chief Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin said.

“PKR Youth reminds the Pakatan state governments not to waver or to cite 1,001 excuses. The ‘clean-out’ of BN elements must be done without any delay.”

Orang Asli in Perak to get land titles

All 10,000 orang asli (aborigine) families in Perak will soon receive titles to their own individual plots of land.

Senior Exco Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham said a two-level committee had been formed to handle the matter and expedite the distribution of the titles for a total of 32,537ha (80,400 acres) of land.

Ngeh said the state government planned to give each family a 3.3ha piece of land, of which 0.1ha would go for the construction their homes, 0.8ha for a fruit orchard and 2.4ha for the plantation of commercial crops.

“We are doing this to empower the orang asli and help them change their social economic status.

“By giving them land, they can increase their productivity and income levels and at the same time, we can alleviate the number of hardcore poor in Perak,” he said.

Ngeh added that the orang asli only owned 0.03% of land titles in the country.

“We hope that this will be a turning point for the people.

“We know we may hit snags along the way but we ... need to take the first step,” he said.

Ngeh added that despite their small population, the indigenous community actually contributed to half the number of hardcore poor in Perak.

Perak PR celebrates Merdeka

Pakatan Rakyat government of Perak celebrated Merdeka today.

The PR state government is still intact and had not collapsed as predicted. by former BN Menteri Besar Tajol Rosli Ghazali who promised that the Barisan Nasional government would dethrone the present Pakatan Rakyat govt and take control of the state. Ezam had also concurred with Tajol Rosli and both of them had work so hard to get a few state assemblymen arrested for alleged corruption, probably because they refused to crosssover.

BN knows how to woe over the assemblymen from PKR and including those from PAS. Those PKR were, after all, former Umno members and they had the same characteristics and behaviors and shared the same culture and values of Umno: they can be bought with money. - money, irrespective of God which is needed only when specific objectives are to be met. We do not know why these these PKR ADUNs did not bite the BN money-bait; instead, they claimed they were setup by the ACA-inspired Umno demagogues. We don't know, but old habits are calcified within: 'xiang san yi kai, peng sing nan yi.'

One thing is for certain: BN can never buy over those Chinese stateassemblymen from DAP; they are hardcore DAP cadres and they have self-integrity; they love money but they would earned it. They have not acquired the culture of corruption and bribery, as yet; they were part of the long traditional culture of paying, paying to those in Umno and MCA, and little napoleons.

Now, we will wait for September 16 to see if Anwar and Tajol Rosli are both liars.

Pakatan is no different from BN

Pakatan Exco is only 5 months old, and they have efficiently get into the acts of corruption (alleged corruption).

The ACA had found RM100,000 in a bag belonging to that Exco at a hotel - it was caught redhanded.

What is there to deny, Datuk Seri Nizar?

I agree that those accused are innocent until proven guilty. But there is empirical evidence of suspicious circumstances which the State Representatives should not have got themselves into; Lim Guan Eng said it is called "Accountability and Transparency".

The Pakatan government cannot deny the facts and evidences. We will let the court decides the outcome but a good government would not accept such behaviors irrespective whether the accused had committed the crime or not; they should not have acted and presenting themselves in such suspicious circumstances.

No one should question the integrity of the ACA. They had done their job and it is this attitude and competency which the rakyat aspires and Pakatan supporters should laud such actions so that the ACA would continue to be efficient and competent.

Two wrongs don't make one right! If we want to question the efficiency of ACA based on conspiracy theory, then it defeats the fundamentals of our aspirations - we want a clean govt; that's why we voted out the BN corrupts; but we didn't vote-in a new corrupt govt and we didn't want a corrupt Pakatan govt either. All rakyat should support the actions of ACA; it will help clean up the nation of corruptors and such competency and efficiency would deter other potential corruptors.

Dear PM, I do agree that we are seeing better evidences of ACA's act of efficiency. We hope they would be impartial and would act without fear or favor.

But, by you being the officer in-charge of ACA it is imperative that there would be biases even if it did not exist because you are in a equally suspicious circumstances. How could we expect the ACA to act against their boss? That's the point.

If you truly wants a professionally run ACA, then make ACA in the mold of ICAC of Hong Kong. Till then, we may have a partially efficient system of control.

SEBERANG PERAI (Aug 4, 2008) : A 25-year-old female press photographer was roughed up by some PKR officials while attempting to take pictures of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at a ceramah here on last night.

Loh Hoay Hoon of Guang Ming Daily was punched, kicked and held by the neck in the event at the Seberang Jaya expo grounds here.

"I was bewildered and confused," Loh told theSun today.

"All I was doing was taking some shots of Anwar before he left the grounds. I don’t understand why they had attack me like this," she said, choking with tears and still visibly traumatised.

Loh said afterr the ceramah had ended, she wanted a few shots of Anwar getting into his car.

However, an unidentified man, believed to be an Anwar bodyguard, stopped Loh and pushed her aside, she said.

"I told the man ‘saya hanya buat kerja saya’ (I'm just doing my work)," she said.

She remembered hearing something like "Jangan kacau, jangan buat susah di sini." (Don't disturb, don't cause trouble here.)

Then she found herself being hit and held by the neck by the man and several others, as she was leaving the grounds.

PKR state secretary Abdul Malek Abul Kassim expressed regret over the behaviour of the official, adding that stern action would be taken by the party to prevent a recurrence.

Most party officials who act as guards were PKR members and not trained professionals, he added.

On July 15, during the televised debate between Anwar and Information Minister Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek, three photographers were roughed up by security personnel hired by AgendaDaily, the organiser of the debate.

Malaysiakini reported that: "The Malaysian Chinese Photojournalist Association (MCPA) is exploring the possibility of boycotting all future PKR events to protest the party's attitude towards press photographers."

"In a statement today, MCPA said that the latest incident involving PKR security personnel manhandling a photographer showed that party leadership has failed to control their officers despite previous complaints being made.

"The association said that it has on several occasions raised their concerns of photographers to PKR and that the latter had promised to take steps to resolve the matter.

"MCPA deeply regrets that PKR's top leadership has failed to look into their shortcomings and allowed similar acts of violence to be perpetuated. This is highly unprofessional," said the statement."

Whether it is Umno or PKR, it is scary! They are so fierce and so strong. They can beat up anyone they think they like to beat up. Is this the Ketuanan Thing? It looks like one, sounds like one, and may be one!

I wonder if Pakatan Rakyat and PKR would go public and apologised to the reporter and promised that such incident will not happen again; or, they actually preferred such!

UPDATE:

Anwar's office issued a statement expressing regret over the incident.

The statement said that an investigation was being conducted on the matter, adding that the party held the media in high esteem and appreciated the coverage of their party events.

"We will try our best in avoiding such incidences in the future," added the statement.

In another statement, PKR information chief Tian Chua said that party president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail had personally contacted Loh on the phone to express her regret over the incident.

A delegation of PKR leaders from Penang has also visited Loh at Guang Ming Daily.

Azizah quits Permatang Pauh today

News report from Malaysiakini:

Anwar Ibrahim announced today that he will contest a by-election for the Permatang Pauh parliamentary seat which will be vacated by his wife and PKR leader Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

Wan Azizah told a packed press conference this afternoon that she will be resigning as member of parliament for the seat but will retain her post as PKR president.

"I have submitted my resignation letter to the House speaker today," she said.

After deliberating with my family, the Keadilan party leadership and our partners in the Pakatan Rakyat, I have officially submitted my resignation as Member of Parliament of Permatang Pauh to the Speaker of Parliament YB Tan Sri Datuk Pandikar Amin Bin Hj. Mulia today to make way for my husband, Anwar Ibrahim, to contest as a candidate for Pakatan Rakyat in a by-election as soon as possible.

This is consistent with our goals towards securing a Parliamentary majority and forming a new government within this year.

The UMNO-led Barisan Nasional government has mismanaged the economy and steered the nation towards a catastrophe. It has allowed the integrity of the justice system to fall into deeper infamy. It has stroked the flames of racism and driven a wedge of mistrust between Malays, Chinese and Indians, while thoroughly neglecting the needs of the indigenous peoples of Sabah and Sarawak.

PM admit it wasn't about Islam; it was about Power-sharing

Prime Minister finally admitted that it truthfully wasn't about Malay unity nor Islam unity on the dialogue between Umno and PAS on the March 10 meeting. It was about POWER SHARING DEAL with PAS!

So, do not twist and manipulate in the name of one’s religion for the sake of political gain or personal profit. This principle is affirmatively enunciated by none other than the prime minister himself (refer to his earlier statements here).

The official agenda was to discuss issues concerning the unity of Islam and the Malays. There is never an issue about Umno and PAS having dialogues to promote unity and to promote Islam and nobody is against it. But to use the reasons of religious unity in order to strike a power deal to gain control of a state is in essence an act of contriving and iniquitous; and this is blasphemous. It is not wrong for a political party to seek alliance so as to form a government but as Muslims they should be honest about it and not lie about it by misusing the name of Islam. Do not forget that Umno also tried to lure the Indians and Chinese state assemblymen from Perak to defect to BN and they can't contradict themselves and sell their souls by claiming it to be in the interest of Islam; it can only be for the interest of retaining power and political domination. (Remember that Tajol Rosli had announced that DAP and PKR ADUNs will be defecting to BN before August 31).

AS reported at Malaysiakini, Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi today said Umno had offered to share power with PAS in Selangor after the general elections as it was within its right as the incumbent state government.

"Maybe at the early stages when it was undecided on who would form the government at that time because Umno had the highest number of seats in Selangor," he added.

"So, at that time Umno felt that it has a right to seek the opportunity to form the government and to negotiate with any party to form the government," he told reporters.

Previously, Umno leaders said the talks were limited to the subject of Malay unity and Islamic matters and not political cooperation.

This is the first time that Abdullah, who is also Umno president, had admitted to the possibility of a political alliance with PAS on the subject of Selangor.

Former Selangor MB Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo was the first Umno politician to admit that the offer was made shortly after the March 8 polls.

ABDULLAH: Name of god and religion being abused to justify violence and terrorism

Many individuals and groups have abused the name of God and religion to justify violence and terrorism, Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said today.

The prime minister said such extremism had been observed many times in the course of history and in each instance, the virtuous teachings of religion had been twisted and manipulated on behalf of one’s religion, for the sake of political gain or personal profit.

“In our own time, we have witnessed many injustices committed in the name of religion, including the occupation of someone else’s land and the dispossession that ensues from it. This is surely an affront to the dignity of the person, and a blemish upon the freedom that is a human being’s birthright.”

“The phenomenon of religious extremism should compel most of us, especially religious scholars and intellectuals to engage with the wider public in order for them to play a vital role in combating ignorance and the perversion of religion,” Abdullah said.

He said it was not enough to produce intellectual works and present papers at scholarly meetings, nor to lock themselves away in their ivory towers.

The prime minister was speaking at the opening of the International Conference on Religion in The Quest for Global Justice and Peace, here today.

How true; very true! Your statement is without reservation the spoken reality and are empirical observations of the real world and in particular, we can see it happening in Malaysia, more so, within Umno's functions and public statements from those name-sake politically-connected Umno-controlled NGOs.

These lines you preached sums up the pure realities and reflects the factual situations of our very own racially-divisive intra-connected political systems.

But how come you attended the March 10 meeting with PAS and Khir Toyo to conspire the takeover of the 4 State Government that BN had lost?

That meeting was made and addressed in the name of Islam and Malay Unity and the reality as espoused, exposed and revealed by Khir Toyo and Abdul Khalid Samad was the pure fact revealed by Khir who said Anwar was the man behind the failure of Umno and PAS to agree to a conspiracy to eliminate Pakatan Rakyat and KeAdiLan from forming the state government of Selangor, Perak and Kedah; thus ensuring the continued domination of Umno with PAS as it's new sleeping partner while at the same time Umno continued to sleep in the same bed with MCA Chinese, Gerakan Chinese and MIC Indians, plus Kadazan Christians, Dayak Christians, Iban Christians, Bidayuhs, Malanaus, Dusuns, Muruts, in the name of multi-racial power-sharing and wealth sharing in a constricted and stultified environment.

You mention about blemishing upon the human rights birthrights and I am truly impressed and at the same time apprehensive. I am Chinese and born in Malaysia; constitutionally granted a Malaysian Citizenship and possesses the rights to all that is stipulated in the sacred Constitution. Isn't this my human rights birthrights and should also include my children's birthrights and also all others too? Why is it that Umno Tajuddin and Ibrahim Ali and many others in Umno including your son-in-law, states that all Malaysian non-Malay children should not be equally and fairly granted government-PSD scholarships (which used money contributed by all taxpayers) and that 80% PSD scholarships should be exclusively reserved for Malays only, while the non-Malays and Natives from Sabah and Sarawak consists of more than 45% of the population would be sharing 20% crumps? Why is UiTM reserved 100% for Malays only? Why is Design-Built Contracts reserved exclusively for Bumiputeras only? Why does rich Malays enjoy 15% discounts for buying houses while the poors from other races are deprived from these discounts?

I accepted wholeheartedly that the underprivileged and poor Malays must be assisted and enabled, which is the express provision inscribed in the Constitution and fully respected by all citizen; but it should not, and never should it ever be, an outright exclusivity of a single race only.

Professor Dr Shad Saleem Faruqi from UiTM said the spirit of Article 153 is of affirmative action for Malays and natives, not of hostile discrimination against “non-bumiputras” and I am certain all jurisprudence scholars and intellectuals would agree absolutely with him.

Please Mr PM, can you explain the contradistinction and contradiction between the above phenomenas.

Umno's racial Conspiracy

On March 10 (or 11, as PAS Abdul Khalid Samad could not remember the exact date) Umno president Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, former Selangor menteri besar Dr Mohd Khir Toyo and PAS leaders, Nasharudin Mat Isa, Mustafa Ali and Khalid Samad were huddled together in a building in Kuala Lumpur for a secret meeting.

PAS committee member Abdul Khalid Samad revealed that Khir Toyo had proposed during the meeting that Umno and PAS form a joint government to rule Selangor.

Khalid who is also the MP for Shah Alam, claimed that the meeting was colored with a racial agenda - to halt the predominantly Chinese DAP from making inroads into the Selangor government.

Khalid said Khir Toyo was willing to become deputy menteri besar if Selangor PAS commissioner Dr Hassan Ali is made menteri besar.

According to Khalid, "Khir said (at the meeting) this was one of the solutions to overcome the problems facing Islam and the Malays," he added.

We can observed with clarity and empirically that Islam can be used to grab power and also Islam can also be used as a tool for racial divide. Islam was thus extremely useful for human purposes - the greed for power, wealth and positions.

Umno was prepared to bow down to PAS and play second fiddle so long as they can hold on to power-sharing and to continue to rule the state. How they would later deal with PAS's power was secondary and unimportant at that moment so long as PAS is willing to collaborate with them in the game of power and help them to maintain a stranglehold albeit the fact that they would play the role of mistresses. Thereafter, they can later have secret deals with the others from DAP and PKR ADUNs and uses money and positions to buy over a few of them into BN which would then give BN the majority control; thus overthrow PAS.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi admitted that Umno had held three top-leadership meetings with PAS to discuss the situation of Islam and Malays in the country. However, he declined to elaborate.

Last night, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang also confirmed that talks took place between the two parties.

Pak Lah had always emphasized that he is the PM for all Malaysians - the Malays, Indians, Chinese, Ibans, Kazadans, Dayaks, etc. But he was in a secret meeting to conspire using the racial cards as the prime motive - that they want to halt the predominantly Chinese DAP from making inroads into the Selangor government. That was revealed by PAS Khalid Samad.

Tajol Rosli: Perak PR govt will 'fall by Aug 31'

Former MB of Perak Tajol Rosli said Pakatan Rakyat's government in Perak will fall by 31st August.

"It's not easy, (but) I'm very confident," he said, predicting that BN would resume its rule over the state, but declined to reveal details.

Tajol Rosli acknowledged that Umno and BN had approached several PR assemblymen coaxing them to join BN, adding that they should be crossing over.

I wonder! BN and Umno use to talk so much about personal integrity and loyalty and many leaders in Umno had accused the Pakatan coalition for this lack of integrity. But what we hear from Tajol Rosli does confirm that Barisan Nasional and Umno are birds of the same feather and equally lacks integrity. Tajol said many PR assemblymen are being approached to join BN; this statement alone is proof.

Ezam; he is just a Trojan Horse... he is buying confidence and faith. he's probably a "25-man"; this is only a guess.

Anwar & his Sodomy legacy

Last night, at 11.15pm, PKR sent out an SMS message stating that the police had detained Anwar’s special aide Saiful Bahari this afternoon and forced him to lodge a police report about being sodomized by his boss (refer: Lim Kit Siang's Blog).

Perak State Assemblywoman humiliates the Speaker

At the Perak State Assembly debate, Barisan Nasional ADUN for Sungai Rapat Hamidah Osman asked the State assembly speaker V. Sivakumar whether he agreed to disagree with the well-known fable of whether a snake or a man from a certain racial community should be killed first.

Hamidah is a Muslim and as a Muslim how could she say such a thing against another human being who is also a creation from God? The Quran does not permit a Muslim to humiliate another person in such manner.

Kleptocrats in PKR too

Whether it is Umno or keADILan, they are still the same.

In Malaysia, we citizens must come to accept the reality of a thing, and have self-consciousness in that simple thing.

This elite group of people, they are in Umno and they support Umno, for just one reason - the 3Ps: Power, Position, & Projects.

They don't get it, they will turn the table on their leaders. It is their core values, pure culture, and the very essence of the thing they call ketuanan; it wasn't intended to make others slaves; it was only objectively intended that they must be bestowed with the 3Ps.

The same people from Umno, is also the same people in keADILan, albeit some.

The day Khalid Ibrahim becomes MB is also the same day his machais had presumed that they had been bestowed with the 3Ps. They start to become the new demi-gods; they start to act in hole-liness; they start cari makan, cari lubang, and cari agent; they start to sell projects, giving supporting letters in the name of the Minister so as to apply undue influence in the name of efficiency and necessity.

Is Power, Position and Projects the only essence of Umno-centric & keADILan-centric politicians and members? I'm afraid it is observed to be as such. Sabak Bernam division chief Dr Badrul Amin said the members (of PKR) have braved water cannon and beatings and have been loyal to PKR for years but they were sidelined. He was referring to the failure of the Selangor government under the leadership of PKR Khalid to appoint their members to be councillors. Badrul said many party members had been sidelined as the MB had chosen professionals over them.

So, what's the commonality and differences between Umno and keADILan? Except for the fact that they are different people of the same origin, they share common characteristics and values. It is still the 3Ps, after all!

Sad to say, we have yet to see a political party who truly put the peoples' interest before their own personal interest. We are not dealing with absolutes; what we would be happy is empirical knowledge, a posteriori, or, have synthetic knowledge. But the observations betray all philosophies.

Well, if the citizens thought Pakatan Rakyat can be different and will not be the same; then it would need these people, who had defected from one vehicle source to another vehicle source, to go through a blood transfusion and a radically insidious paradigm shift of values and culture.

JKR over-estimated or is it a mark-up?

Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng moved into his official residence after he found out from the caretaker that the “leaky roof” was not leaking at all, but just water dripping from the air condition.

He said that the estimate given by the state government and JKR had been "grossly overstated."

“It was only water dripping from the air condition vents. I don't understand how they could include repairing a leaking roof in their evaluation when the roof is not leaking," Lim told newsmen.

He said the state government would check on how the RM300,000 came to be quoted, adding that “this is one of the problems of government operations.”

"They tend to put a much higher amount in their estimations. This doesn't inspire public confidence. We'll now come out with a fresh evaluation on the cost and reveal it to the public," he said.

Now, the worms are beginning to crawl out from the pandora. JKR have to provide an answer. How is it that a roof that is not leaking is reported by JKR to be leaking? Where is the competencies of the engineers and QS? Was it intentional? or, was it intended to test the new CM? What would have happened if it was BN who decides to proceed with the project award? Kan-tau lah!

Sultan angry with PAS Youth

An upset Sultan of Selangor has threatened to call off future Sultan of Selangor Cup matches if the protest by the state PAS Youth against two artistes performing for the event went ahead. Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah described the protest over rock queen Ella and dangdut singer Mas Idayu as “hypocritical” and “trivial”. He said there were more important issues that the party could focus on.

On Monday, Selangor PAS Youth submitted a memorandum to the Selangor Mentri Besar’s office to protest against plans to have Ella and Mas Idayu perform at the match on July 6. State PAS Youth chief Sallehen Mokhyi said the movement felt that performances by the singers were inappropriate as it would be attended by many youngsters.

The youth wing threatened to stage a demonstration at the Shah Alam Stadium if Ella and Mas Idayu were allowed to performed.

The Sultan said yesterday Ella and Mas Idayu were chosen because they were good entertainers and that the organisers felt that they would be able to entertain the people before the match began. The other singer is David Arumugam of Alleycats.

“The organising committee even planned for the performance by the singers to end before the maghrib prayers. They are performers suitable for the family and I don’t know what the fuss is all about,” he said.

The Tuanku said Selangor did not comprise of “just PAS and Muslims,” adding that the state had many political parties and people of other races and faith. He said Pakatan Rakyat was a multi-racial coalition and the sensitivities of other races must be taken into account. “The idea of holding the performance is to create goodwill and bring the people together before the match. Sports and music bring people together,” he said.

Sultan Selangor unhappy over previous ADUNs spending

The Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has expressed grave concern over the issue of previous state administration assemblymen spending their RM27mil allocation for this year in a matter of months.

“I view seriously the spending of the allocation for assemblymen in the first two months of this year.

“Efforts to improve efficacy of the state will be meaningless if wastage or inappropriate spending goes on,” he said during his speech at the opening of 12th state legislative assembly here on Wednesday.

He said efficiency in managing finances was crucial to maximising the state’s income so it could roll out more benefits for the people.

The Sultan also said he wanted more aggressive efforts and for rules to be relaxed, to attract more foreign and Malaysian investors to the state.

He said the state government should seek improvements in the manufacturing, services, tourism and agriculture sectors, and also promote small and medium scale industries.
