Ipoh Ceramah

I came down to Ipoh. Since I will be free tonight I was told by my son that DAP will be holding a ceramah in Ipoh town opposite Methodist Girl School (MGS) and MCA is also holding a ceramah at Chin Woo Hall right opposite the DAP ceramah.

I haven't been to election rallies for years and I thought I would not give it a miss tonight as it is the last night of the election rally. I called Howsy to get him to meet up there. I called a few friends to find out whether they would be there. Howsy said he may be there around 9pm and my other friends said it's raining and may not attend.

And so I drove out at 7pm to the town as the ceramah starts at 8pm. Suddenly it rain and was very heavy. When I reach the place at MGS there was only 2 cars. My first thought was there won't be many people who will turn up to listen to the diatribes. I sat inside the car as it was still raining heavily. By 8pm the organizer starts announcement and I walk out of the car with my umbrella.

The crowd was around 50 people. Fortunately the rain stops at around 8.30pm and I can start taking pictures. By then the crowd had swelled to about 200-300.

The speakers stage was not a stage but a mini truck; I think it's a Toyota Hilux pickup truck. DAP could not get a hall and so had to conduct the ceramah in front of a shophouse. Opposite the shophouse is the roundabout where the people gathers.

By around 9.30pm the crowd had swarmed the whole roundabout and my guess is around 3,000 people. I move about to take some pictures of the crowd. The road is still passable to traffic.

By this time my friends had arrived. At the same time I met Howsy and we had a good time chatting.

The last time we met was at the 2007BUM which is almost a year since.

Lim Kit Siang and Fong Po Kuan arrived at around 10.30pm. The sentiments were overwhelming. When Kit Siang and Po Kuan arrived, the crowd went crazy. And by now the crowd had spill over and overflowed the road where the cars and lorries are still plying. It was almost impossible for the traffic to flow.

The crowd went crazy when Fong Po Kuan spoke. They love the cilli padi.

Fong thrilled the crowd with her usual oratory. But the 13 days of speaking must have taken its toll and her voice has gone hoarse. Fortunately, tonight will be the last session and the rally must end by 12 midnight.

By this time (11pm) the estimated population at the ceramah is around 15,000 people.

I can no more walk around to take pictures anymore as there's just no space to move. The road is filled up with people.

Fortunately the traffic police came to close the road to traffic so as to avoid untoward incidents.

The last speaker of the night is of course Lim Kit Siang.

Kit Siang must have stressed himself to his human limits.

His voice is almost gone but he tried to put up a good show.

The crowd loves him. They clapped at every instance.

Observing the sentiments of the people in Ipoh and speaking to many others, it is foregone conclusion that MCA will be trashed. I was told that the MCA ceramah at Chin Woo Hall has less than 200 people.

The DAP is certain to win in a number of seats. The victim will certainly be MCA.

wrong....Mav..

the victim is BN and Umno and Pak Lah. MCA is a just a puppet just to show Chinese representation. Once elected this MCA dogs will lose their voice..very strange disease afflicting MCA..once elected they lose their voice..during campaign can talk..really talk..

Not only the electorate will dump Sleepy head..I think his own UMNO people will kick him out. The longer Najib waits..the stronge KJ will get..and then Najib gets nothing

Pak Lah would be stupid to form his Cabinet from only one race if the tide turns against MIC and MCA. It wouldn't make much of a difference as the Chinese and Indians feel second-class anyway with MCA and MIC. We just want a Bangsa Malaysia based on the Constitution. No twisted interpretations. No body snatchings. Respect for one another. Etc......

Ceramah is Great
and so did the Campaign for Clear & Fair Election
So did Hindraf Rally
So did Bar Council walk to endorse the 3-man panel
without Protest to 5-panel Comedy Show!

Will you get a Police State or Campaign State if without 1/2 of the Parliament Seats
with no Reform of Constitutions & Laws?
You can only hear the Complaints but not the Reforms!
Will People go into Campaign once more!
Just to get GE strict after and not before!!
http://chinhuatw.wordpress.com/2008/03/07/make-you-votes-count-support-the-campaign-for-royal-commission-on-electoral-reform-rcer/#respond
Campaign to get each and every Basic Rights to be Strict!!
Are we electing Public Servants or Leaders of Campaign?
I find another name for Bolehland
CAMPAIGN-LAND!!

Rusila: Tear gas fired, 22 arrested
Mar 8, 08 2:36pm

Twenty-two people were detained following a ruckus involving PAS supporters in Rusila, Terengganu, this morning.

The police used tear gas to disperse the crowd.

PAS supporters had earlier protested the presence of two buses in Rusila, which they claimed were ferrying phantom voters brought by Barisan Nasional (BN).

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang's son Mohamad Khalil, 31, was also among those arrested.

Rusila is an area under the Rhu Rendang state seat which Abdul Hadi is defending. The seat also falls under the Marang parliamentary constituency which is also contested by Abdul Hadi.

According to the residents, Mohamad Khalil was arrested around 11.45 am.

Contacted at about 2.45 pm, Terengganu police chief Ayub Yaakob confirmed that Mohamad Khalil was among the 22 detained for investigations.

He also told Malaysiakini that the supporters had pelted the police with stones.

He also denied rumours that the police had fired live bullets at the crowd.

Ayub added that the situation was now under control and calm has been restored.

Inspector-General of Police Musa Hassan is currently holding a press conference at the national police headquarters in Bukit Aman in Kuala Lumpur on this matter.

It is learnt that voters are now afraid to come out to cast their ballots because of the incident.

X'tina,

I will be monitoring the results the whole night! Unpaid job and tough!

Artchan,

You will be surprise the victim is not BN, but MCA and Gerakan as BN will still rule and UMNO will still rule.

Anak Merdeka,

Anxieties for the whole night for me.

See Fei,

Helen's father is sick and I do not want to disturb her as she may obliged and at the same time need time to care for her father.

Sharing,

We will live with what we have no control.

Thanks Anon for the news from Malaysiakini. I'll go read it.

Maverick,

The Actual Situation is:

"We will live with what we have never and will never be told
but realized after we have no control!"

In a world only labeled with "Democratic" in a Plastic Box!
on a plate with 2 holes on two sides but having a tiny rusting nail!

Then what is the point of a GE?
A period to go?
without discrimination to Gender!!
So, the only "Fairness" being reserved!!

Maverick SM said...

Sharing,

We can't take a process activities to redefine the political process to illustrate or concoct. That plastic box with 2-holes is a simplistic process of the means to an end, but not by itself the end. The end of course will be another beginning.

That's the fundamental of a democratic system and the ballot box is the tool to achieve this end.

Maverick,

Democratic is not the box nor the plate. It is the space that air can go, where air can freely flow!

We have a "trapped" democracy only realized by a plate in a Box which is loosely fixed or about to drop when the nail is not qualified or even risking the job!!

ELECTION not equal to DEMOCRACY
WHEN IT CAN BE MANIPULATED!

When Democracy has never been started, another beginning is not a continuation of such!

Maverick SM said...

Sharing,

Democracy is not casted in stones. It is a philosophy and the application is ideological and subjected to the ruling govt's application. It is about utilitarianism.

Hi Maverick

Welcome to Ipoh. As I write this post Kinta Valley has returned to Opposiion as during the time of D R Seenivasagam and shown the MCA that if you want to represent the electorate in Kinta Valley, make damn sure you don't loose your voice when speaking to UMNO.

As for Gerakan, they are irrelevant unless they revert to their original principles as envisioned by Syed Hussin Alatas, Dr Tan Chee Khoon etc. Their present appointed president is but a puppet of UMNO and is unfit to lead the once mighty Gerakan which had a multi-racial outlook and today cannot even find a non-Chinese candidate to stand for election.
