Khalid to save PKFZ

Selangor Menteri Besar said his government wants to take over and manage operations at the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) as part of its overall revamp of troubled projects and corporations within the state to bring these back to the black.

Rather than letting this Port Klang project go to ‘waste’ at taxpayers’ expense, the Selangor state government will try to turn it around to make it economically viable, said MB Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.

“I think the least (that) the public expect is that people who benefited from this must pay for their sins or crimes (through legal action).”

“I’m going to request the federal government that we be allowed to operate it so that the state can make use of these assets and enhance the economic activities of the port,” Khalid said in an exclusive interview at his office in Shah Alam.

Otherwise, the 406 hectares of real estate on which PKFZ is sited and more than RM4 billion that has been committed to develop the project may be in danger of going to waste, given the lukewarm reception on the part of local and foreign investors, he said.

“We will take it over at book value of RM1 or RM2, and then we can do it better. If you leave it alone, it becomes a ghost town,” he said.

Asked how he thinks the federal government will react to his proposal, Khalid said animatedly: “They should react positively! How on earth can they waste taxpayers money and not react positively? Here is a group of people who are willing to help the government to make it better.”

I don't think the federal govt dares to hand over the project to Khalid. It will open up the pandora box.

with Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim at the helm, he surely can turn around PKFZ anytime.

He is no TOYOL one... he doesn't look like one too.

his track record is adequate to prove that he is a man who can deliver, not otherwise in the past (Mangkuks of BN).

give him 1-2 years and we should see positive results. Dubai investors is watching Anwar Ibrahim and Khalid Ibrahim...

Greed faces don't have to sell the ideas of Mesra, Cepat & Betul to prove their forecast.

So far, all the press statements given by the BR(DAP,PAS,PKR) sounds very logical and right. This article also very appropriate. Unlike given by BN...sounds like sore loser or power mad like Terengganu & Perlis case. Fully support the state government to turn this around. Agree Toyol will do worst as he is more good at selling tempe & botox only.

Oh my, some of you didn't realise it is nothing but a political teasers?

Come one, be realistic, do you think the federal will allow opposition to went in and search all the documents that prove the bail out? NO WAY.

damn, typo. the last line should read .

As Doc Maverick point out in the last line : it will open the pandora box.

In fact, Lim Guang Eng make the first teasers to suggest Petronas funds the 2nd bridge.

I bet there will be more "teasers suggestion" from BR.

Lots of teasers are good as it will keep the BN on their toes and over time, they will have to actually perform instead of collect rent.

Let the Pandora box be open and the ghosts exorcised.

Is PKFZ a Priority for Selangor CM?
====================
Asking PM to hand over the Can of Worm for Execution of cronies?

Hope Khalid will not forget Toll Concessionaires, Land Manipulation and Administration efficiency and transparency in Selangor are what are most urgently expected by Rakyats in Selangor.
Be it be Court, Land Office, Municipal Councils, etc..

Tell the Rakyats his TASKS for the coming 4-5 years is the Most Priority of ALL!!

Moo_t,

If no one comes forward to provide ideas and initiatives, the project becomes hopeless and billions goes to waste. A hope and a proposal is better than nothing.

Purple Haze,

Ya, keeping the BN on their toes is important.

Gukita,

Opening the Pandora will let out the ghosts but may not exorcise the ghosts.

Sharing,

Lets watch Khalid; I think he will do much better than BN.

its like giving you, Khalid, a machine gun, to kill them off. you think, Khalid, they would want to commit suicide? gee, looks who involved in this scandal. UMNO/MCA/Sarawakian. What a muhibbah way to screw the rakyat, real big time. RM4.7 billion of it and thats twice as big as the last scandal in BMF (if you all still remember whats BMF).
