Royal Malay Regiment now guards Buckingham Palaces

The Royal Malay Regiment will now be sent to England to provide protection services and to perform what was classified as the prestigious "London Public Duties for her Majesty the Queen of England.

Army director Kol Fadzlette Othman Merican said 122 personnel from the royal ceremonial team had been selected for the assignment.

Basically, Public Duties are divided into two tasks. The first is the “Queen’s Guard” where the regiment will guard the Buckingham Palace, St James’s Palace and Tower of London.

The second is “Windsor Castle Guard,” where the regiment will guard Windsor Castle, one of the Queen Elizabeth II residences.

Kol Fadzlette said the regiment would be involved in regimental tasks with other battalions in the Household division along their placement in Buckingham Palace.

The team will depart for London on April 16 and are expected to start their duty on April 18 and end on June 12. – Bernama

It can be observed that Malaysia had no more use for its army. It probably stems from the fact that the cost of maintaining the soldiers are running high and to par down the cost one of the solution is to second these soldiers to work in London as security guards for palaces.

We are not sure whether the government is trying to reduce the number of Istana guards and whether this is due to any other reasons but we sure have Malaysian soldiers standing at the gate of Buckingham Palace and other minor palaces in United Kingdom. Malaysian soldiers can now look forward to work in London and earn British Pounds.

Army? In Malaysia, they are de facto BN postal voters.

Or scarified pawn when they take the infamous Hellbox - Nuri helicopter.

sending 122 rmr boys & spending rm2m to 'jaga pintu' for 'kwailo'?

or the boys got nothing else better to do issit?

so, want them to drop by & say hi to sufiah issit?

As far as real prestige goes, one hears of rather contrarian opinion from ex-servicemen not from the RMR.

Moo_t,

We are sending RMR to UK as security guard; they claim it is prestigious!

Wits0,

It was a traditional culture of those guards to stand like a log; I do not understand its prestige.

Wonder whaz the rationale behind this exercise?

gotta spend a couple of million to be posted there. what priorities! shit, families cant even move into longhouse after one year in langkawi and are staying in tents. and here, a couple of million is spent for some ego exercise. thats BN for you, guys.

Should photocopy this news & distribute the flyers all over the heartland.

Another crowning achievement for the umno bigots, in glorifying the Malay might(?)!

A typical case of hamba mentality, even after 50yrs of independence! Now all the Other M'sians can say this loud & clear; 'don't like the new 'government', U balik UK-lah' - FLOL!

Perhaps there is some cuttings in this. But then the-mango-from-pekan is too big a fish for RM2M. No?

Leave it to the British to make a fool of their former subjects! Pity our people do not think it is an insult that our boys have to guard a foreign queen...everything belonging to the orang puteh is best, even their shit. Keep it up BN. Goo lick the boots of your masters in London.

u stupid fuck.. these soldiers are better than u, fucking toungue twisting blogger

You people are so cynical, including you blog owner. So what's wrong with sending the RMR to London? This is not just to jaga kedai but part of a diplomatic effort by both sides. You should read the positive foreign news report on the RMR's performance in Changing of The Guard at Buckingham. I was there and boy I can tell you that I feel proud to be a Malaysian.
One more thing, do remember that these soldiers work and train hard to protect our country. Without them, in any event of war in the future, you guys would be shitting in your pants. Have some respect for them.

You pathetic short-sighted idiots. Trust you not to have any sense of national pride. I guess you are cheesed off that it is the Malay Regiment that has the honour of being invited to perform this prestigious duty of guarding the Queen. Perhaps you would be supportive if it were the Chinese Regiment. Now, why does Malaysia have a Malay Regiment? Hmm... I guess it is because my country used to be Tanah MELAYU!!! Malay Land. Your posts just confirm the fact that the Malays cannot trust some of you insecure people. You can be in my country for 10 generations and you will never know national pride or loyalty. What a pity for this wonderful country. Yet I know so many other Malaysians from your community who are like brothers and sisters to me and I apologise to them for saying this because they are not like you at all!
In the UK and elsewhere, anyone who comes in contact with Malays only have good things to say about them. Thank God at last the Malays are travelling and the world now knows Malaysia is NOT a Chinese country.

Puntung Hanyut,

You call this pathetic and short-sighted? You call this national pride? Where is the pride of a Malaysian when we sent our Royal Regiments to guard a British Palace? Our Royal Regiments are soldiers who are to guard our Yang diPertuan Agong and Sultans, and not other sovereign King or Queen. And I am surprise you are proud colonial slaves of which the Malays and other races had together fought for the Independence of the nation to free ourselves from the British Masters.

I am sad for you and all the other Malays who thinks like you who are proud to guard the palaces of the British Kingdom instead of the Istanas in Malaysia.

I would say that it is a waste of public money to send those boys to a foreign land and to guard a foreign monarch. After 50 years of independence and all the huu-haa in its celebration, we now take a u-turn and send our boys to guard our former colonial head?

I believe not only the leaders suffering from andropause, they make sure the country suffers too..

mAverick,

im for puntung hanyut. this is not only about jaga-ing the palace lah. The key here is the word 'ceremonial'. did you know that they were the 4th Regiment after Canada, Australia and Jamaica to be invited for this? Did you know that they are also involved in military tattoos and other military events here in london? This is to raise the profile of the RMR. When else can you listeN to Bahtera mERDEKA AND iNILAH bARISAN kITA being played at the forecourt of Buckingham Palace and see Malaysian soldiers marching through the streets of London? Some of them were being swamped by foreigners asking them questions. So no, its not all about looking after the Queen.
And so what if RM1.9m WAS spent to send them? Pride and glory cannot be measured by RM. Its okay if you want to bash the government for wasteful spending on mega projects or whatnot. But please spare the RMR. They have done so much for our country..Pasir Panjang, Mogadishu, Confrontation etc.

You freakin wankers!
I was there among thousands of spectators watching the change of guards..
At the end, people were asking "Where did these fine soldiers come from"?
I was very proud..at least people know who Malaysians are...

One more thing Maverick, you guys always harp and moan about how you are treated as 2nd Class citizen in Malaysia. If you cannot even feel a tiny sliver of pride for our soldiers who have fought and trained hard for our country (and our national anthem too for that matter), then you dont deserve to be called a full-fledged Malaysian!

Hi,

I must admit, i find reading some comments posted as being...well really quite negative.

From my side, and as a "Orang Puteh" (also a proud sarawakian!)..who spent most of his childhood in Malaysia, and is now back!...this is something to be enormously proud of. I am also an ex Coldstream Guards, and having watched the parade, i would honestly say that the Regiment has done the country proud.

To put to rest, one comment made in regards to them (ie the Guards outside doing Guard Duty), afraid you are wrong...the soldiers that one sees are all full time professional soldiers, as no doubt are those of the Royal Malay Regiment. They have served in Bosnia, Notrhern Ireland etc just to name a few...so these are not just for the public to see.

Especially comments made by anonymous...obviously he/she has no idea of the ties made with all former commonwealth countries made by Great Britain, and how this invitation was extended out by the Brits to the RMR after seeing their professional turnout!..i for one, am glad that at least i hope, you don't work in the Diplomatic Corps!.

Some people on this blog really need to think about their comments, and in any case, i am sure that all Malaysians, after seeing this are proud not only of their country, but also the dedication and professionalism given by their Regiment!.

I for one, acknowledge the above, and am proud to see how they truly exceeded all expectations.

Doug,

Thank you for the constructive comments made. I appreciate your views.

You give us a better insight and hopefully we have better understanding of the subject matter. Thanks

Ali,

If you are empathic you will understand the reality. Full-fledged? haha... you probably are viewing reality from you own perception and conception without empathically observing the realities of the system. I do know how to appreciate the soldiers but what I am referring to is the system administrators and how our great soldiers are made to be guards of a colonial palace; why can't we have them at our own palace and make them our pride. Have you been to the palaces and watch our guards? Do you think they share the same pride as those at Winsor/Buckingham palace?

Doug Sumner said...

Maverick SM,

My thanks for your comments.

Just to follow up on your remarks earlier, i dont think anyone was made to Guard Buck house as may have been suggested. As stated, an invitation was given, and no doubt duly accepted by the Malaysian Defence Force. In regards to having British Soldiers guarding your Astana?...well don't think that would really work!..would it?.

I am also sure, that those who serve with the 1st Bt Royal Malay Regiment, who also happen to be part of the Ceremonial Guard for the Agong, feel great pride in what they do!. To add, from what i have seen being back in Kuching, i have been welcomed by all ranks of the Regiment here, and even had a few drinks in the mess with the RSM and Officers alike!...and the pride just from them talking to myself, sometimes makes me proud of being a little bit malay!( i have always been told i am the last whit Rajah in Sarawak who doesn't want to leave!!).

I think some people are really missing the plot, and not looking at the big picture..this is not based on the current political situation here in Malaysia, or even on race, political party..or whatever...not even about past colonisation!...i always had in mind that, for me anyway, compared to New Zealand anyway, that Malaysians always were proud of their past, and even more so of the present and future. This situation is really about the closeness that Malaysia has with the United Kingdom, and how the best Regiment has done great for the country...it has by the look of things, given immense pride to those Malaysians abroad and at home...so why not embrace it, instead of bringing up certain aspects which really are not relevant!.

Regards

Doug
