Umno Youth deputy chief and son-in-law to the prime minister Khairy Jamaluddin said he wants Petronas to publish a more detailed financial statement and then table it in Parliament so that there is greater transparency.
“The call that I made for Petronas to disclose its financial statement goes above and beyond the annual report that is published on its website.
"The annual report only highlights a summary of Petronas’ financial position without going into any detail.
"I think it is also fair to say that Petronas is not an ordinary corporation," he said.
He was responding to Petronas president and CEO Tan Sri Mohd Hassan Marican as saying that the corporation’s account had been published and made public for the past 18 years.
Khairy said Petronas had been tasked with safeguarding the nation’s most important natural resource on behalf of the people and, therefore, should be held to a higher level of scrutiny.
He said the financial figures found in Petronas’s annual report did not meet this higher level of scrutiny.
"I would suggest that Petronas commits itself to greater transparency and accountability by agreeing to give a special briefing to all MPs on the company’s corporate activities and financial position, and open the briefing to questions from the floor.

Khairy and his political gimmick... Tan Sri Hassan couldnt say more... Petronas is responsible to the Prime Minister..only, only and only..
Khairy should ask the Prime Minister... show us the money!!!
Would he?
"He said the financial figures found in Petronas’s annual report did not meet this higher level of scrutiny."
The report is 84 pages long, what more could he want?
How convenient to insinuate that the blame of corruption and transparency lies within Petronas! After all they have done throughout the years (1997, anyone?), such attacks are ungrateful, to say the least! And from KJ, too!
Let's ask the government: where are the billions entrusted to it over the years???
The annual report filed by Petronas is as per SC requirements. It is not a cover all document.
Being a huge corporate figure, its footprint is large and does affect many things. Its actions abroad should be made answerable to all Malaysians as we want to be seen as a responsible country in our dealings in the international level.
What is being done about the profits, how it is being deployed to ensure that our future, our children's future is guaranteed or at least with great wisdom. We could set up our very own sovereign fund.
Being debated in the Parliament enables capable minds apply themselves to tease the data and find fatal flaws in the corporate judgement. ( The opposition, I hope )
A sort of conference call of sorts for Tan Sri Mohd Hassan Marican and his team to answer to.
I only hope that it does not turn into a farce and he begins to spot questions from KJ and get it 100% correct.
The CEO of Petronas has spoken.
I thought Petronas has also an Advisor.
Why the advisor has to say???
so what after make to public all the problem solved
Price of petrol n Diesel will go back to old rate
RM2.80 ---> RM 1.30 , jangan mengarutlah
Nama pun dah Mr Clean , so dia clean everything lah . 5S ma , selidik --> susun --> segak --> selaras --> setia = sapu semua sekaligus
yesterday the ceo said the harga cos minyak is >> than harga minyak mentah ?
cos minyak = refinery, cari gali ?
i wonder why he can still retain the post if he has no confident himself to survive if gov to give subsidies....
Mantra,
If Petronas is responsible to the PM then Khairy would have got what he wanted. He is 4th Fl enforcement officer.
Jefus,
Hahaha...spot question in parliamentary debates; just like exam...chun-chun.
Moo,
Petronas Advisor is not speaking
Soon, we shall see Lim Kit Siang and the other polticians say the same thing. For them it is NEVER enough. Give betis nak peha attitude.
Denzook,
Hassan Marican is still the best CEO amongst the GLCs.
Sandyow,
You are right; every politicians say the same thing; it is never enough; and of course, for Hassan and his cadres, they have not yet had enough too.
Moo......
The Advisor of Petronas is Tun M right? For all these years he is the one giving "advice" to petronas what.....? So he shouldnt be equally liable to provide explanations to the public about how the money has been spent?
Where goes the money, indeed. Pity the silence on the part of the Advisor, maybe he could really shed some light, leading by example, right?
Oh ya horr.... Mahathir advisor of Petronas.... Never really thought of that before.... He was there longer than Pak Lah rite? Something I dont get is why always the public blame Pak Lah for all bad thing. Bcos Pak Lah only few years become PM only.. And Mahathir time, got mistakes during his time too? And now Pak Lah has to bear his mistakes I think... What do you think mave?
Khairi's plan : To expose Mahathir further.
Hassan maybe the best CEO but when PM decides, what can he do - to dance to his employer's tune or go against him? You tell me.
Daniel D,
Tun M can't comment; he has good reason; ask Hassan and he can tell.
Teoh AL,
You are probably right; but Mahathir says he can do no wrong.
Francis,
I don't observe Hassan as the best CEO; maybe, a CEO who cares not to bankrupt an institution; a billionaire CEO.
He has been trying hard to become the CEO of PETRONAS. Merican, you're history.
KhinJir
Khairy talks too much.
This moron should instruct his FIL to step down before being forced to retire with shit on his face, first.
Tan Sri Hassan is best GLC CEO and wouldnt be surprised this Khairy The Moron raising this Publish Account issue simply to make himself look good.
Typical of a Moron!
KhinJir,
I don't think so.
Pui-key-Mack,
I support KJ's statement. He is saying the right thing and I support his point of view.
SM huh .. sound like senior manager ..haha are you part of the conspiracy? i dunno
Zakaria,
Part of the conspiracy? Ya!!!
