So, Britain had finally accepted Malaysia's culture and value system.

Here, we heard that honorifics are given to those who could contribute generously. In UK, you can earned the title Lord, if you can contribute generously to Labour?

Well, I may consider to have a title, Lord Maverick, the Lord of the Rings.

In the wake of questions arising from the awarding of Datukship, the National Council of Justices of Peace has called for a more thorough system of vetting prospective recipients so that they do not become the “laughing stock of society”.

Council secretary Datuk M. Ramalingam said that in the current situation, it would be better not to have any honorific title.

Many deserving people were overlooked while others who had not contributed much to society have been awarded with JP, Datuk or Datuk Seri titles, he said.

"We have people who are not yet 30 being awarded the Datukship, while those who have held public positions over 40 to 50 years are being overlooked. We also have JPs and Datuks who are serving time in prison for criminal and other related offences."

In view of the current happenings, what are better words to describe the awards than “Hollow Crowns”? Said Datuk Ramalingam.

Ramalingam said he served in at least 30 organizations and held various public offices for 34 years before he received his Datukship from Negri Sembilan.

Not too long ago, I was introduced to a businessman who happens to be a Datuk. He is only in his early 30s, and a member of UMNO. He sells secondhand cars and has a gun-trading licence. From our conversation, he told me his humble beginning, where he was a washcar boy for more than 10 years but he didn't reveal to me how within a short 5 years he had become a multi-millionaire. When I was serving as a senior executive officer in a public listed company, very often I had been approach by those well-connected people who rub shoulders with the royalties who were basically sourcing for people who needs Datukships. (snip)

According to what was reported in the New Straits Time (10th October), Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam was quoted to have said that: "Those appointed Datuk (in conjunction with the Yang di-Pertuan Negeri Tun Khalil Yaakob’s 66th birthday celebrations) had contributed greatly to the general election win for the Barisan National and this is his way of recognizing their efforts and repaying them."

So, the rational put forward by Datuk Ramalingam that honorifics are awarded to those that had served and contributed to the society does not hold water, as awards are selectively given to those who help Barisan Nasional wins election (if the reason stated by the Menteri besar of Malacca is constructed in accordance with what he says).

So you can see why Lim Kit Siang and Kapal Singh is still Mister....

Reward for those who support Ali Rustam?

A record number of 83 people will be conferred awards which carry the title “Datuk” in conjunction with the Yang di-Pertuan Negeri Tun Khalil Yaakob’s 66th birthday celebrations.

They are among 890 people who will receive their awards and titles in Malacca on 10th Oct 2004.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam today denied that the long list of people awarded datukship was in recognition of their support for him in the recent UMNO election. (Ali Rustam was elected as a Vice-President in the recent UMNO election). He said those appointed Datuk greatly contributed greatly to the general election and this is his way of recognizing their efforts and repaying them.

So, it's clear that those Datukship award are not for those who contributed to society and the nation but rather for contributing to helping the state government win elections - a political contribution to the ruling party, if the statement issued by the Malacca is constructed in accordance with the reasons stated by the Chief Minister.

Culture, Arts and Heritage Minister Datuk Seri Rais Yatim believes that “the public might assume that it is easy to attain such titles if too many are given out.”
This is what Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim said:

“If too many are handed out, it will cast aspersions in the community that the awards are easily available.”

Commenting on the 84 people who were awarded Datukship, Rais Yatim had this advice:

“They should have rounded it up to 100.”

Maybe, that's what Malaysia Boleh Ideology is all about!
Anyway, most Malaysians knows how their friends win those Datukship awards.
Like it or not, it is money politics and with money, you can get anything you want!
Those who wants to keep denying it can continue to do so....

Tan Sri, Datuk, JPs - Money is the answer for having one!

Datuk Rais Yatim was right when he said that States honor can be bought. It is not unknown to many Malaysians and to many Datuks and Tan Sris that those titles are not given for excellent services to the communities but for a certain contribution, large donations to some "powerful or influencial" people. This is not to deny the many Tan Sris and Datuks who had contribution immensely to the societal cause. Unfortunately, they are group with those who have got them thru' financial donations. We have heard of several Datuks who had been indicted for vice or criminal activities and their records of those vice activities are so profoundly known to the society at large, yet they were given the royal-designated titles.

Money can get you what you need. Tho' money may not be everything in life, but money can get you anything. LETS GET MORE MONEY & BE RICH - MINISTERS CAN MARCH ON THE SAME ROAD & LEAVE THE POOR BEHIND. THAT'S WHY WE ELECT YOU, SIR!!!!!!
