Najib hails Utusan Malaysia

Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak hailed the Umno-owned Utusan Malaysia today for its role in representing the absolute interest of the Malays, but however, he also urged the newspaper to also voice out the rights of all Malaysians.

“Utusan is known for its trademark and its trademark is to voice the desire of the people, especially the Malay community,” he said in his speech during a breaking of fast function at Sri Utusan Printing Complex here.

However Datuk Seri Najib Razak warned that the media must not only report ethically but also responsibly.

“I hope that we will not only voice the rights of only the Malay community but for the other races as well. When we want to defend rights (of a community), we must also discuss about responsibility,” he said.

He also urged the media to play an important role to shape the nation into 1 Malaysia.

“Media has the responsibility to help in the journey travelled by Malaysia.

The journey which seeks common understanding, openness in thinking. The journey which will also test our struggle.

“If in this journey, we bring chaos and sentiments without looking at the bigger perspective then the journey will go through many difficulties,” he said.

Utusan Malaysia has been criticized for ratcheting up racial tensions.

The Umno-owned newspaper was responsible for running daily stories criticizing DAP as anti-Islam and implying Anwar Ibrahim as a Malay Traitor. It also publish many articles which we observe could provoke racial paranoia and raise racial tensions among the various communities.

Najib's language in his speech was directed towards a positive redirection to re-educate Utusan. However, we wonder whether it can be effective.

Terengganu Aquatic Centre Shut Down

Leaky RM18m aquatic centre shut down

The RM18 million Aquatic Centre in Batu Burok here was ordered by the Works Ministry to close indefinitely yesterday. Works Minister Datuk Shaziman Abu Mansor said too many flaws had been detected in the year-old centre, making it unsafe for public use.

"We inspected the lower ground level and found too many leaks.

"We also found rusty structures and faulty electrical connections that were exposed to water. All these have made the centre unsafe for use," Shaziman told reporters.

In an immediate response, Public Works Department director-general Datuk Seri Dr Judin Abdul Karim, who was also present, said action would be taken against the Terengganu PWD officers who were the supervisors of the project if they were found to be negligent.

The state PWD was in charge of the contract, which meant they implemented and managed the project.

The closure of the aquatic centre is the latest blow for the state government after another of its sporting facilities, the roof of the RM228 million Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium in Gong Badak, collapsed on June 2.

Shaziman expressed regret and questioned how two important and costly sporting projects ended up this way.

"We have asked the contractors (Pakatan Nadiwangsa Sdn Bhd) to conduct immediate remedial works as the project is still in its defect period."

Shaziman said, more importantly, the PWD found other weaknesses.

They included its design, the implementation of the project and the supervision of the project when it was being built.

"Maybe they hurried the project to meet the (Sukma) games deadline but this is not an excuse why the project did not meet the required standards. This is supposed to be a safe facility for the people."

Shaziman said PWD must, from now on, look seriously at how it conducts its projects.

He said the department must stop looking only at deadlines and instead ensure specifications and quality standards were met.

"We do not want projects that are unsafe and have short lifespans. This aquatic centre is a good example. It is just one year old and already there are so many problems. This is definitely not healthy."

Shaziman expected a preliminary finding on problems affecting the aquatic centre to be submitted to him by the federal PWD in 10 days.

It may be wise to stay away from the beaches in this July month.

July 22, 2009 is also when there will be sun eclipse. On 22 July 2009, a total eclipse of the Sun is visible from within a narrow corridor that traverses half of Earth. The path of the Moon's umbral shadow begins in India and crosses through Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar and China.

A solar eclipse means that the moon is blocking the sun. The moon has enough gravitational pull to cause the tides other natural phenomena on earth. The sun has enough gravitational pull to keep the earth in orbit.

The theory is that during a solar eclipse, the moon has the Sun's added pull on the earth's tectonic plates. When the Sun and Moon are together on one side of the planet, they pull together and lift up the earth's tectonic plate, just beneath the eclipse. This causes the plate to shift upward, and then an earth quake when the lifted plate gets the little extra push (lift) it needed to move over its neighboring plate. The theory may be hair brained, or it might actually have some pull to it.

The theory that the gravitational pull of the Sun and Moon pulling together will do the following things:

1. Lift the tectonic plates
2. Cause the tide to rise more than usual
3. Cause an underground molten magma tide to dip and raise the plates following the water tide.

I don't know whether it will happen or not. I thought it will be good to share this "rumours" with my readers here.

'Illegal Flights' out of Subang

NST news crew caught a picture of a foreign aircraft operating charter flights in Subang. That plane has a Malaysian flag on its rudder but the code number on fuselage indicates it is a foreign registered aircraft.

According to NST's report, Subang airport had been used as a hub for illegal charter flights and no actions were taken by Department of Civil Aviation (DCA).

Aviation industry sources claim such operations have been going on for almost 20 years and DCA has turned a "blind eye". "Such practices have been going on for so long because the DCA, being the enforcing authority, is not cracking the whip," NST reported.

DCA Director-General Datuk Azharuddin A. Rahman said his department needed proof before that can investigate the matter.

"Ask those who complain to give us the official complaints in black and white and I will definitely crack the whip. I have been the D-G for 2 years and no one has complained to me," Datuk Azharuddin said.

"Frankly, if foreign-registered aircraft are being used for charter and hire, we will not know it. All the DCA will know is, the number of passengers on board and its destination," he said.

But, Mr Azharuddin, you ask those complainants to write officially to you so that you can investigate ... Sir, do you mean you and your DCA cannot investigate if there is no official complaints in black and white? Ai, this statement sounds so familiar lah, Sir? Datuk, Malaysians who complaint may end up being investigated and charged for making such complain and some even had been detained and charged under the ISA. Even if it is not true but when the complainants have pictures with conspicuous evidence, isn't it good enough for you and DCA to investigate and find out ... I am still puzzled why you need black and white complaints.

Oh, by the way, dear Datuk, the official owner and song writer of Black and White who himself is a black and officially turned white is now dead and his funeral is expected to be held on the 7th of July. Are you attending the memorial services of Michael Jackson, Sir?

A trip to Kuching Waterfront Cafe

I arrived in Kuching for a two days seminar. As the MAS flight was fully booked on Saturday I had to take the evening flight on Friday 27th March. My son William came over to join me on Saturday.

We stayed at the new Hotel 360 at Hock Lee Centre along Jalan Abang Abdul Rahim.

In the evening my friend Kiam Siap Alex too us, together with my prodigal son Ramon, for dinner at the Waterfront Cafe which is sited on the former Sarawak Steamship Building.

The CEO of the Waterfront Cafe is my good friend Madam Doriawati. It was nice to meet up with Doriawati after a period of nine months.

The Waterfront Cafe Restaurant was a unique place along the Sarawak riverbank.







When we arrived there we were greeted by Madam Doriawati and the chief chef Mr Lim Kheng Ho.

Since Kiam Siap Alex seldom give us a nice meal; so we took the opportunity to makan as much as we could.

I ordered my usual Sarawak Laksa topped up with lobster. William had a Laksa and lobster too. Ramon pick the most expensive steak and Kiam Siap Alex only ordered a salad with belacan dip.

After my Laksa I ordered a roti canai with curry chicken and a baked soft crap. William ordered a mee mamak. We had some nice cocktails drinks and a few glasses of ice-blended cappuccinos.



The place is nice and has a historical ambience.

It also have a Karaoke and WIFI facilities.

It is cool in the evening and the place is nice and cosy. The Cafe & Restaurant has a capacity to serve more than 100 persons.

We had a good meal and the prices are reasonable.





The menus includes Ala-Carte, Buffet Style, Chinese Set, Malay Set, Dome Style and BBQ Buffet Style.

The picture on the left is the salad and belacan ordered by the Kiam Siap guy.

I did not manage to capture the pictures of the food I ate as I was extremely hungry when the food arrived. It was too delicious to wait.

The next time I go there again I will take a few pictures to share with my friends in Semenanjung.




We had a nice time there. We sat at the open air area which is facing the Kuching river. The ambience is fantastic.

I will surely come back again for my meals when I visit Kuching again.

Anyway, thanks to Alex and we hope he will treat us again the next time around.

P/S: We ate too much. My son said he hasn't seen me being so happy for a long time. I am; coz more than anything else, my son was with me in Catland.

Malaysia is too busy and unready for change!

The Anti-Corruption Agency had instructed PKNS acting general manager Low Siew Moi to go to its office yesterday. They wanted her to give information regarding the senior officers who had been receiving "allowances" from property developers on joint-venture schemes with PKNS.

That's probably the only reason why the senior officers were afraid of when they oppose the appointment of Low. She had 33 years of experiences in PKNS and 33 years of information relating to their conduct in relation to those allowances and profit-sharings. She may now become the crown witness.

Pempena Sdn Bhd, the investment arm of the Tourism Ministry, has more than 24 subsidiaries and most of them made losses over the last three years.

Pempana had invested RM54mil via equity participation and advances made to some companies and only seven of the investee companies is viable.

PricewaterhouseCoopers Capital Sdn Bhd (PwC), the firm hired to audit the companies recommended that some of the companies should be windup or liquidated or be disposed. It is also recommended that those investments with equity participants should be liquidated.

PwC noted that there were no clear defined investment policies and procedures on investment approach, setting of financial, tourism and operational KPIs and there is no structured plan. There is also no proper monitoring of investee Companies based on their shareholdings structure and lack of ability to influence decision-making.

ACA is also busy investigating Umno leaders allegedly involved in money politics.

Former Secretary-General of Rural Development Ministry Datuk Dr Abdul Aziz Muhamad was acquitted by the High Court for abetment in committing criminal breach of trust (CBT) and of cheating involving RM9mil.

Dr Abdul Aziz said he was glad that the Judge has been fair to him and he thank God for the wise decision of the Judiciary.

The Session Court had on Nov 16, 2005, convicted and jailed him for 5 years on each charges. Dr Abdul Aziz was convicted of abetting Ketengah GM Datuk Alwi Said in committing CBT and cheating the then Second Finance Minister Datuk Mustapa Mohamed by inducing him to believe that Ketengah's RM9mil investment in orchid cultivation, fish rearing and recreational facilities projects in Dungun was feasible.

God has been fair to him. God has also being fair to Najib. God would most likely be fair to PKNS senior management.

But God, what about Altantunya? Can we deemed it as fair too?

Najib accepts Malaysiakini's apology over Manifesto

Deputy Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak today said he accepted Malaysiakini's apology with regards to a report on a manifesto from a 'support group' which was wrongly attributed to him.

Najib also praised journalist Wong Choon Mei - who had written the report - as having shown "high values of professionalism" in claiming responsibility for the error. Wong had resigned yesterday.

Speaking to reporters at the Parliament lobby, Najib said he was satisfied with the apology issued by the news portal.

"I accept the apology or the decision to seek an apology by the editor of Malaysiakini on the publishing of the completely untrue manifesto that I (purportedly) issued.

"Secondly, I want to state that the journalist who resigned over the said article has shown high values of professionalism as she has demonstrated her responsibility (and) accountability for the story which is not at all true," he said.

"The question is the guilty quarters - the real culprits - behind the report are still hiding and we still do not know who is responsible for the said story,"Najib said.

At the press conference in DAP headquarters today, Teresa Kok was asked by an Utusan reporter if she was willing to take a lie detector test to convince Malaysians that she had no part in the azan controversy.

Utusan never asked Khir Toyo to take the test.

Utusan never asked Ahmad Ismail to take a test.

Utusan never asked those who accused her to take the test.

Will Utusan also request Karpal Singh to take a test?

Would they have the influence to compel?

Karpal Singh has filed a RM10 million defamation suit against Utusan Malaysia for allegedly misquoting him on a matter related to Islam.

An article dated Aug 25 in the Malay daily reported that Karpal Singh was against Islam as the official religion in his opening speech at the 15th DAP Congress on Aug 24.

On Aug 26, Utusan carried a front-page apology to Karpal and retracted the report, admitting that it was a 'grave mistake.

Teresa Kok is also suing Utusan for RM30 million for libel and tarnishing her image.

We are fearful of those powerful guys there. Did they act like God, Judge and Jury and are so powerful? They are Tuan. You may get arrested under the ISA for some reports.

Aren't they becoming satanical and fearful?

A free nation entails not only democratic elections, but also the public sphere within which the citizens may freely exchange information and ideas, debate, deliberate and form public opinion.

Public opinion not only sways elections, but also constraints the behaviour of governments, preventing the emergence of elected dictatorships.

Media freedom is therefore at the core of a free nation. Attainment of national independence is indivisible from advancement of media freedom. Repressive laws are only required by governments that are afraid of dissent.

In this sense, decolonization must be measured by the civil and political rights the citizens enjoy. The people are often treated like minors who need parental guidance. The decolonization process is only complete when the post-colonial government is able to see the people, and the people are able to see each other, as politically mature, rational and competent. Internal political independence needs democratization, which entails media freedom both as an end and a means. This requires not only laws that advance our freedom, but also a decolonized mentality which is able to see that we deserve freedom and can advance our quality of life with freedom.

The struggle for Malaysia's independence is therefore an unfinished business. England, which had no licensing requirement on newspapers at home, imposed on Malaya various repressive publication laws that led to the Printing Presses Ordinance 1948. Unfortunately, this law survived Malaya's independence in 1957 and Malaysia's establishment in 1963, and evolved into the Printing Presses and Publications Act 1984.

We have also other draconian laws like the Internal Security Act (ISA), the Sedition Act, and the Official Secrets Act. And beneath these laws is our misguided fear of freedom and truth, a fear that had subjected us to control and propaganda.

After 50 years of independence from the British, it is time that we mentally decolonize ourselves and claim our media freedom and, by extension, a full democracy. We must now seek free speech, information access and empowerment.

It is incumbent upon all Malaysians to advance media freedom as a national project and make our celebration of national independence meaningful. The public must show their support to journalists, bloggers, writers and photographers in defending and expanding the public sphere, like they do soldiers who defend the nation's sovereignty. In turn, the journalists, bloggers, writers and photographers must demonstrate a high degree of professionalism and ethics commensurate with the freedom. Finally, the government, both at the federal and state levels, must do their part via laws and policies to advance the public's right to know and their freedom of expression.

On the first Sunday of June, let us walk together as a nation to show our solidarity to the journalist and blogger fraternity, to mark our determination to claim our media freedom which is long overdue and to reflect on our roles in advancing our media freedom, democracy and nationhood. Let us walk the talk, anywhere you like, bearing in mind that hundreds or thousands of citizens are walking with you.

Let us come together as a nation for our freedom.

National Service programme will not be scrapped just because of a few death.

Dying is natural and the service of death is national.

It is the policy that the NS camps must go on despite all the negative aspects. However, to mitigate the death increases, the NS department will impose some rules on participants requiring them to declare that they are healthy and requiring OSHA to certify the camp premises.

It is believed that there would be less chance of death with this proposal of actions. However, the camp is not able to ensure that no one dies as dying is a natural human process and those who had died is itself a national service.

The Royal Commission of Inquiry into the Lingam video clip has found that it was former Chief Justice Tun Ahmad Fairuz Sheikh Abdul Halim who was talking to prominent lawyer Datuk V.K. Lingam on the telephone. The video clip was authentic and that the conversation was true in substance.

Rela officer arrest Pakistan Embassy staff

A Pakistan embassy accountant was detained by Rela officers.

The accountant was traveling on a bus to work when it was stopped by Rela members near Ampang.

As the Rela officers did not recognize Wisma-Putra-issued identity card they asked for his MyKad. Since the officer was not enabled to verify embassy ID, and neither had they seen one, they took him to the Rela Centre.

Selangor Rela Director Khairi Mohd Alwee said his men rarely encounter the Wisma Putra ID and once it is verified they release the Pakistani. Good excuse and great Relawans.

A salesman contacted his ex and both decided to meet up.

At that meeting, he kiss her goodbye.

3 days later he received a bill from his ex-gf husband demanding RM3,600 to be paid within 7 days or else he will take action.

He did not know what to do and seek Michael Chong's help. Michael Chong advised him not to pay as it is an invalid contract which lacks the 5-elements necessary for a good contract. Chong said he suspected it was a scam and told him not to entice OPW (other people's wife) as it can be a criminal offense under Section 498 of the Penal Code for taking away with criminal intent a married woman.

Stabbed at the back

She was walking to work along Jalan Maktab, near the police college in Cheras.

She was senselessly stabbed in the back by someone for at least 4-times.

The police identified her as Lee Hui Fun and she is warded at UKM Hospital.

Her condition is reported to be stable.

It is believed that the assailant was not a gentleman as he/she had stabbed a victim on the back. As Malaysians we believed you only stabbed people in the front and only after giving him at least 3 warnings. Then only you can say you are tuan.

The minister who had a proposal for drug-mules and girls going overseas may want to consider another proposal that all girls cannot be allowed to walk alone and must be accompanied by their father or brother or at least a mother who has karate black-belt.

It will also be helpful if the cabinet would consider registering the robbers and stabbers and certifying them and imposed a rule that they must wear name tags with the profession stated clearly so that the rakyat can properly identify them.

Shabery Cheek: MSM lost all its credibility

Traditional media such as TV and newspapers no longer has the credibility that it once commanded among its readers and viewers, said Information Minister Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek today. The public no longer believed everything they read in the newspapers or heard on television which is known to be controlled or directly owned by political parties inclined towards the Government, he said.

“Times have changed. The public does not believe everything that the newspapers write these days. Unlike before when everything said in the newspapers was taken in lock, stock and barrel by readers.

"Today, the public have become more skeptical. They want to know who owns the newspaper, who the editors are and so on before they decide to believe them. This was not the practice before,” he said after launching the International Development Journalism programme organised by the Malaysian Press Institute and the Media Studies Institute of Universiti Malaya today.

“The bottom line is reputation and credibility. If you have that and you report the truth, based on facts, the people will continue to read your articles. This is the new challenge for newspapers and for any form of media out there,” he said.

MSM instilling fears on PAS Islamic govt

KOTA BARU: PAS is now confident that it can soon set up an Islamic form of government at the federal level, which it claims is gaining more acceptance, especially with non-Muslims, following the good showing of the Opposition coalition in last weekend’s elections.

Its vice-president Datuk Husam Musa said there was growing support among the Chinese and Indians in various parts of the country towards the party’s political struggle.

“We are now genuinely hopeful of ruling the country soon. We now only need over 30 parliamentary seats to seize control,” Husam said.

PAS vice-president Datuk Husam Musa has clarified that his statement on the party taking over the Government at the federal level was taken out of context.

“I mentioned that we are hopeful of taking 30 more parliamentary seats to win power and not about forming an Islamic Government,” he said.

Husam urged the mass media to be careful in its reporting to avoid antagonising anyone unnecessarily.

Note: It can be clearly seen that TheStar is trying to create fear and instill Islamophobias over the non-Muslims. The nation is now in greater danger not because the Malays are getting ultra-Islamist but because we now have The Star and NST instilling fears and paranoias on non-Muslims to make them agitated with PAS and to cause them to hate the Malays. At the same time, we have Bernama spinning May 13 threats as well as Utusan and Berita Harian spinning on threats by DAP & Chinese on issues relating to Malay rights and privileges of which corruption and cronyism is now classified and group as part of Malay rights and privileges enshrined in the Constitution.
