PKR members beat up Reporter

SEBERANG PERAI (Aug 4, 2008) : A 25-year-old female press photographer was roughed up by some PKR officials while attempting to take pictures of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at a ceramah here on last night.

Loh Hoay Hoon of Guang Ming Daily was punched, kicked and held by the neck in the event at the Seberang Jaya expo grounds here.

"I was bewildered and confused," Loh told theSun today.

"All I was doing was taking some shots of Anwar before he left the grounds. I don’t understand why they had attack me like this," she said, choking with tears and still visibly traumatised.

Loh said afterr the ceramah had ended, she wanted a few shots of Anwar getting into his car.

However, an unidentified man, believed to be an Anwar bodyguard, stopped Loh and pushed her aside, she said.

"I told the man ‘saya hanya buat kerja saya’ (I'm just doing my work)," she said.

She remembered hearing something like "Jangan kacau, jangan buat susah di sini." (Don't disturb, don't cause trouble here.)

Then she found herself being hit and held by the neck by the man and several others, as she was leaving the grounds.

PKR state secretary Abdul Malek Abul Kassim expressed regret over the behaviour of the official, adding that stern action would be taken by the party to prevent a recurrence.

Most party officials who act as guards were PKR members and not trained professionals, he added.

On July 15, during the televised debate between Anwar and Information Minister Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek, three photographers were roughed up by security personnel hired by AgendaDaily, the organiser of the debate.

Malaysiakini reported that: "The Malaysian Chinese Photojournalist Association (MCPA) is exploring the possibility of boycotting all future PKR events to protest the party's attitude towards press photographers."

"In a statement today, MCPA said that the latest incident involving PKR security personnel manhandling a photographer showed that party leadership has failed to control their officers despite previous complaints being made.

"The association said that it has on several occasions raised their concerns of photographers to PKR and that the latter had promised to take steps to resolve the matter.

"MCPA deeply regrets that PKR's top leadership has failed to look into their shortcomings and allowed similar acts of violence to be perpetuated. This is highly unprofessional," said the statement."

Whether it is Umno or PKR, it is scary! They are so fierce and so strong. They can beat up anyone they think they like to beat up. Is this the Ketuanan Thing? It looks like one, sounds like one, and may be one!

I wonder if Pakatan Rakyat and PKR would go public and apologised to the reporter and promised that such incident will not happen again; or, they actually preferred such!

UPDATE:

Anwar's office issued a statement expressing regret over the incident.

The statement said that an investigation was being conducted on the matter, adding that the party held the media in high esteem and appreciated the coverage of their party events.

"We will try our best in avoiding such incidences in the future," added the statement.

In another statement, PKR information chief Tian Chua said that party president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail had personally contacted Loh on the phone to express her regret over the incident.

A delegation of PKR leaders from Penang has also visited Loh at Guang Ming Daily.

Another UPM Fracas

Did you see how government officers acted as if they are big time gangsters?

You can see them in UPM.

In Malaysia, it isn't just police brutality. The bullying culture and values are ingrained and adopted by the governmental department officers as a way to intimidate the citizens and to pressurized them to be subordinated and become pagans.

In the previous episode, it was the student union members who was bullying the other students. This time it is the officers from the student affairs department (HEP) in Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), raided the hostel room of the student, confiscated his laptop, handphone, MP4 player, pen-drives, leaflets and personal documents.

How is it that the law now can be exercised arbitrarily and with powers unlimited by basic officers? Has Malaysia now become a police state? It is observed that we now have become far worse than the communists in the way power had been exercised and citizens being intimidated till they are subdued and machinated.

It is about time the people of the nation wakes up to explicitly and expressly indicate to the government that we would not accept a police state in whatever form and clothes they dressed up with. We are fed up with all these form of intimidation, suppression, and oppression. This message must be clear and unequivocal.

Siapa Maharaja Gengster? (Updated News)

Sarawak Police Chief Datuk Talib told his high-level officers at a gathering of OCPDs & senior police officers that the police in Sarawak must show gangsters who is the boss.

Talib said: “Jangan biar mereka jadi maharaja di kawasan kamu."

I don't think there is a need to tell the gangsters who is their de jure and de facto boss, for they knew and understand Kelsen's pra-legal norm.

There is clear understanding and communication in the pra-legal world and co-existence is penultimate. In fact, the doctrine of Utilitarianism is widely adopted.

Marxist's tools of analysis and illustrations using the superstructure and substructure which consists of the human relations is alive and thrives.

It is not their consciousness that human determine their being but the social being that determines their consciousness.

Mmudahlupa was reported to have been attacked by two tai-taikos from Miri and Limbang. It was rumoured that the Miri tai-ko is the famous Superman Long-Kau Kia and the Limbang tai-ko is called Spiderman Aw-Aw O-Kau. The mata-mata has got hold of their pictures. The public is sought to co-operate and provide any lead information to track down the two suspects. Their photo is posted here below:

Moral or Legal Rights?

Did the Barisan government created a kind of legal or moral "Rights" that was granted to the 'selected species being'?

According to Alang Bendahara, it was ironical that the motorcyclist was in the wrong as he was supposed to use the motorcycle lane. The caption was photographed by Zulkarnain Ahmad of NST.

With this picture, is it sufficient evidence for the police and the public prosecutor to initiate criminal action? Would the authority act in accordance with the duty and responsibility mandated by the legal system? Are we living in an age of uncivilization or was it a clash of civilization?

The rule of law said the officers "Ought" and must act in accordance with the legal norm and apply appropriate sanctions as stipulated in the legal system, failure which, it thus post the question of the validity of our law and judicial system - this is in accordance with HLA Hart's Concept of Law and Hans Kelsen's Pure Theory on the validity of law.

Unconditional Release of Heavenly King

He was arrested in March 2004 under the Emergency Ordinance and was moved to the detention centre in May. He had been detained under the Emergency Ordinance on March 26 last year for allegedly being the leader of "Gang 21".

On Oct 19, the Federal Court ordered his release from the centre after he successfully obtained a habeas corpus order. But he supposedly refused to leave the centre as he was worried that he would be rearrested.

True enough, police re-arrested him when he emerged from the centre on 29th Oct. and was bundled off by a group of policemen waiting for him outside the Simpang Renggam detention centre.

“I have been in here for 17 months. What have I done wrong? I’m not afraid to be detained again. Who are the four heavenly kings? Who named them?” ex-Datuk, Tee Yam told the media people awaiting his release. He was also stripped of his datukship by the Sultan of Pahang for “tarnishing the image of the award”.

On 31st October, at 8.10pm, he was unconditionally released from police custody. He walked out of Bukit Aman a free man, 19 months after his arrest on suspicion of being an underworld kingpin.

Tee Yam, 48, appeared somewhat subdued, often holding the hand of his wife Chia Mee Sim. “My emotions are still unstable and I just want to rest for the moment before getting on with my business again,” he said when asked about his plans. Tee, believed to be worth millions has business interests in housing development, entertainment outlets, a computer company, a mineral water company and luxury car companies.

His latest detention under the Emergency Ordinance would have allowed the police to hold him for 60 days. But the police release him unconditionally?

Why? If he was re-arrested, there must be good reasons and prima facie evidence of criminal acts. Why a sudden about-turn? Did the police wrongfully re-arrest him or was he re-arrested out of vengeance? Or, alternatively, the police could not configure an indictable offence on him?

There was a stonewall silence from the police contingent. Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Musa Hassan declined to speak about the release of a man alleged to be one of the four "heavenly kings" controlling the underworld in the country.

"No comment," was what Deputy IGP can say about Tee's unconditional release just only two days after being re-arrested upon being released from the detention centre.

Tee Yam's release was all the more interesting after his much-publicised re-arrest. He was collared by plain- clothes policemen in the presence of his lawyer Datuk Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, family members and the Press as he walked to freedom from the centre. His re-arrest prompted the question of mala fide (bad faith) on the part of the police, with Shafee saying he planned to cite Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Bakri Omar and the police for contempt of court.

The Perlis Government has short-listed former gangsters and village bullies for temporary job with Kangar Municipal Council enforcement unit. Memtri Besar Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim said the 20, included ex-servicemen, would be called for interview soon.

“To resolve social problems, we cannot simply sideline people described as problematic, We must absord them into the mainstream and train them to become respectable members of society,” the Perlis MB said. He assured the public that the authorities would check with the police to ensure that successful applicants did not have criminal records. “Nowadays, people do not heed the council’s by-laws, that’s why we see squatter area mushrooming, land encroachment and assessment arrears accumulating. With a more physical presence in the enforcement unit, the council may be able to get more ratepayers to settle their dues promptly,” Shahidan said.

The New elected Government of Pak-Lah prefers Gangsters and Bullies .... this is what you have voted in! I'm not sure whether any reaction to the statement by Shahidan will come from the PM. If he did not, then, we had to assume he concurred.
