POEM ON MONEY
“Though I talk with the tongues of men and of angels,
And have not money,
I am as a sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.
And though I have the gift of prophecy,
And understand all mysteries,
And all knowledge,
And though I have all faith,
So that I could remove mountains,
And have not money,
I am nothing…
And now abideth faith, hope and money,
These three, but the greatest of these is Money.
--- George Orwell; Keep the Aspidistra flying; 1936
Money
Workers earn it,
Spendthrifts burn it,
Bankers lend it,
Women spend it,
Forgers fake it,
Taxes take it,
Dying leave it,
Heirs receive it,
Thrifty save it,
Misers crave it,
Robbers seize it,
Rich increase it,
Gamblers lose it,
I could use it.
