NG YEN YEN URGED MEN TO FOLLOW WOMEN'S EXAMPLE
BY K. SAITHURUKA ; The Star; 8th. August 2004:
It is high time men follow the example set by women and learn to deal with stress, said Wanita MCA chief Datuk Dr Ng Yen Yen.
She said women organisations or associations had been organising talks and training on stress management issues and men's groups should also start looking into what was causing stress today.
In Malaysia, she said, a Women's Aid Organisation report for the same period indicated that 1.8 million or 39% of women aged 15 and above had been beaten by their boyfriends or husbands. “Of this number, only 909 women have come forward to make police reports.”
Dr Ng also said that from 1998 up to the present, 7,456 rapes had occurred and 75% of the cases were committed by men known to the victims. She said an average of four rapes and four sex harassment cases occur daily while some 100 children are sexually abused monthly. Dr Ng said Wanita MCA's “anti-violence” VCD, produced to help check the surge in violence, was available at the movement's office.
