“No Design problem with east Coast Highway’” says Samy
The police believe there are problems with the design of the East Coast Highway but the Works Ministry disagrees.
Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu said:
“In our opinion, there are no problems with the East Coast Highway. The many accidents that happened along the highway were due to human factors, especially speeding.”
A total of 108 crashes were recorded along the highway on the first 45 days since its opening on 1st Aug, most of them due to drivers losing control of their vehicle.
Samy Vellu said motorists tended to speed up to 170km per hour on the highway. As a result, they were unable to control their vehicle when negotiating bends.
Highway concessionaires MTD Capital has assigned Ikram to conduct a road-profiling survey of dangerous stretches.
