Hand Kissing
Utusan Malaysia front-paged a report about several Islamic scholars unanimous agreement that hand kissing is not unIslamic and felt it is in fact encouraged.
Johor Mufti Datuk Nooh Gadut said hand kissing was not against Islam as long as it is not meant to worship them.
This was in response to a report that King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia who decreed that his people stop kissing his hand because the practice was against Islamic teachings and lower one's dignity.
Perak Mufti Datuk Harussani Zakaria concurred.
Former FT Mufti Tan Sri Abdul Kader Talib said:
"Muslims should avoid greetings that were not in line with Islamic teachings such as rubbing nose, kissing cheeks, or embracing one another."
"Don't overdo the show of respect. It must be based on real intentions."
Did Mufti Kader inform his view to Mahathir and Rafidah?
How do you think Mahathir would react to his point?

but i thought embracing each other as greeting is the culture of the arabs who are muslims?
hand kissing is usually done on those who are 'higher' than us, like of course king, prime minister and so on. long ago, many indian catholics in our country like to kiss the hand of priests too. it's just a sign of respect and awe, i think.
Hi Kelvin,
Thanks and I had linked you.
Hi Lucia,
Intepretations of Halal and Haram with regards to muslim's behavior has always been complex and very often misunderstood.
Saudi and Malaysia are both Sunni Muslims but now they have differing opinions on behaviors.
Unfortunately, the Islamic countries do not have a commonplace and institution to discuss them and there is an apparent lack of consensus.
If dogs could make out in the road side, I see no reason why humans can't hug to embrace each others.
