The Return of Royal Jedi

Return of the Royal Fracas

October 18, 2005; NST Frontpage:

Johor royalty in Rawa Island fracas

Malaysia wanted to attract more foreigners to reap foreign exchange earnings. Johor State had been parading themselves as the shopping and holiday paradise for foreigners.

Rawa Island was described by the Tourism board as the ideal place for those who seek fantasy and nature.

For a Brazilian couple, this had all the ingredients of a perfect wedding ceremony.

A picturesque island and guests from Europe, South America, Australia and Singapore.

But the 50 couples who attended the ceremony on Rawa Island on Saturday had a nightmare when a group led by a member of the Johor royal family gate-crashed the celebration.

The end result — a no- holds-barred brawl which led to several of the foreigners being admitted to the Mersing Hospital and others seeking outpatient treatment for bruises

The New Straits Times reported that four men, including a member of the royal family, have been arrested. Johor chief police officer Datuk Amir Sulaiman said investigations were under way and the case was classified as causing grievous hurt and criminal intimidation.

Checks revealed at least 50 couples had checked into the resort late last week. They included chief executive officers, company directors, professionals and their spouses. The wedding ceremony for the Brazilian couple was followed by a dinner.

At the height of festivities, several locals who were also resort guests allegedly gate-crashed the party. Late into the night, one of them invited one of the foreigners to dance with him. When she turned him down, he became rowdy. When her husband intervened, words and blows were exchanged. The foreigners were then "ordered" off the island by the member of the royal family.

Some of the foreigners made light of the threat. A group of locals returned armed with golf clubs and sharp weapons, and a brawl broke out. Several of the foreigners suffered injuries and were taken to Mersing — a two-hour boat ride — with the help of resort employees.

The foreigners were then "ordered" off the island by the member of the royal family????

Is this a show of supremacy? Is this what the Royal Family wants? Would the Sultan act against his family members who had abused the foreigners by taking their wifes and treating them as slaves to fulfill their lust or desires?

Is this the quality and examples the Royal Family had set for the Rakyat to follow?

But .... this is not the first time we saw such incidents .... it is more of history repeating itself .... It is characteristics and cultures and it is "What you see is what you get" ... We are back to the land of the lawless!!!!!!
