Lottery & Islamic State conundrum

Mana boleh Zaid? Malaysia is an Islamic State. Lottery is a game of chance, and it is against the doctrines of Islam.

ZAID asked: "Why are we afraid of doing it? Is it because of PAS? They only have 6 seats in Parliament. What are we afraid of?”

Ya, Datuk. Barisan Nasional need not be afraid of PAS or DAP or KeAdilan. They together can never defeat the mammoth majority that Barisan had in parliament. But ... don't you and your Muslim MPs need to fear God? Tho' God is not voting in Parliament, Muslims are suppose to fear Him?

Allah said: "So fear them not, but fear Me, if you are believers." [3:175], "And fear none but Me." [2:40], "So fear not men but fear Me." [5:44]

Pak Adib's has this to say:

"There is plenty of ayats in the Qur'an telling us about the punishments if we go against the Commands of Allah swt, and yet quite a number us keep on breaking the rules even though we know that we shall be accountable to our every deed(We can disobey the Commands of Allah but we can't run away from the Wills of Allah).Just look into our hearts whether the feeling of fear exists when we read the ayats of punishments if we go against the Commands of Allah."

Datuk Zaid Ibrahim, the Barisan Nasional MP for Kota Baru had suggested that Malaysian sports association should organize special lotteries to raise funds for sports. This is because many gaming companies did not contribute to sports adequately.

ZAID: “Sports in England were fully funded by profits from gaming.” (but England is not an Islamic State, Datuk Zaid?)

Asked whether the proceeds would be halal, he asked: “What is more important is what we use the money for. (Is that correct? Are you confusing me and the others?)

Below are two ayats from the Qur'an on lotteries:

“O you who believe! Intoxicants (all kinds of alcoholic drinks), and gambling, and Al Ansaab (stone altars for sacrifices to idols, etc.), and Al Azlaam (arrows for seeking luck or decision) are an abomination of Shaytaan’s (Satan’s) handiwork. So avoid (strictly all) that (abomination) in order that you may be successful.

Shaytaan (Satan) wants only to excite enmity and hatred between you with intoxicants (alcoholic drinks) and gambling, and hinder you from the remembrance of Allaah and from As Salaah (the prayer). So, will you not then abstain?” [al-Maa’idah 5:90-91]
