Another Man died from Falling Formwork

When Dr Liew Boon Horng died from a falling object from a construction site, the news was loud and widespread.

Even the Prime Minister and the cabinet went straight to set up a committee to investigate.

The Cabinet, which discussed the issue at length at its cabinet meeting wants to ensure worksite safety is maintained at all times.

In addition, it also ordered that work on the Plaza Damas serviced apartments where the incident occurred be suspended immediately and indefinitely.

The Cabinet ordered the Construction Industry Development Board to investigate and come up with a report fast.

When eleven elderly men was shaved bald by the Kajang Police, the Prime Minister directed the police top brass to investigate if the Kajang police had followed procedures in shaving the heads of 11 men who had been detained for alleged gambling.

Observing that the police had stated that it was normal under the Lock-Up Rules to cut the hair of detainees, Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said the question now was whether police had acted according to procedures in shaving the hair of the detainees. He said it was up to the police leadership to find out what happened.

Today, in the NST, it was reported that:

Indonesian bar bender Salaso 39, was cutting steel bars at the base of the Johor Baru Central Municipal Council building construction site on Jalan Scudai when a 1.5metre-long block of wood fell on his head at 11am 4th Feb 2006, killing him.

The wood is believed to have broken off a scaffolding at the annex building of the council complex which is 70% completed.

The article was in SMALL print at NST and I can't find that article on nst online. The Star didn't give the news credence.

Anyhow, there was no hooha about it.

Mati katak.
