"If I had a Magic Lamp"

"If I had a magic lamp" by Taib Mahmud.

This is the headline in Sunday Eastern Times - the new kid on the block - the latest newsprint of Sarawak that replaced the Sarawak Tribune which died it's natural death due to the caricature of Muhammad.

What is it that the Chief Minister had wished?

"I like to see the younger people take seriously the challenge by the globalised world. And they got to remember that in this adjustment, you need inter-racial harmony more than anything else to be successful."

I just wonder how many of the UMNO leaders had the same vision and dynamism of the Sarawak leader.

Taib Mahmud spoke of his vision in which he called it "The New Reality" which was to focus on:

1. The need for the people to embrace change instead of resisting;
2. That while the State government will create opportunities, the people have to equip themselves with the necessary skills;
3. The need to recognise and pursue opportunities, instead of waiting for them to fall at their doorstep; and
4. The need for good inter-racial relationship and a greater sense of equality.

The words will ring in my ear for a long time and in the hope that UMNO leaders can and will learn from this wiseman.

The 26th of March is also the 25th Anniversary of Taib Mahmud's rule as chief minister of Sarawak.
