Oops! UMNO & MIC Clash!

Umno and MIC councillors clash

A slinging match between Umno and MIC councillors took centre stage at the Petaling Jaya Municipal Council full board meeting yesterday. It started when councillor Nor Azman Mohd Nor spoke of the delay in building a U-turn for motorists in front of the New Pantai Expressway toll plaza at Taman Medan here.

He said there was a lack of co-ordination between the Malaysian Highway Authority and the Public Works Department on the matter.

"It seems strange to me. They are under the same ministry, but they don’t co-ordinate on something that involves the safety of motorists and residents," Azman said.

Referring to the controversy over the construction of pedestrian bridges over the Federal Highway, he said: "We are from the council and our views are not taken into consideration by the Works Ministry."

Azman said: "The same Works Minister who seems quite interested in billboards does not seem interested in the U-turn issue."

Councillor Datuk Yahaya Bujang, who supported Azman, interjected: "If PWD still refuses to get the council’s approval on future projects, the council should issue stop-work orders. Let Samy Vellu criticise us. We have work to do."

Councillors Krishnan Narayana Redy and V. Subramaniam immediately protested.
"If there are grouses, I will make an appointment with the minister. It is not right to throw names around," said Krishnan.

Councillor Megat Firdouz Tan Sri Megat Junid said the criticism by Samy Vellu was unfair.

To this, Subramaniam said: "Can the council tell me which clause states that the Federal Government should get permission from the local council to carry out Federal projects?"

Gajah sama Gajah berjuang, pelanduk mati di tengah tengah!

Sorry; Gajah sama pelanduk berjuang, Kakitangan Majlis mati di sebelah longkang.
