Khairy Defends!

Khairy: Check your facts first

After months of news propagation of the "land of the Rising Son-in-Law" series, the heir apparent had decided enough is enough and he is going round the country to explain himself.

Khairy Jamaluddin has called on party members to “check their facts first” on accusations levelled against him.

"The accusations levelled against me were baseless and mere lies", he said, adding: “Those who cannot attack Pak Lah (my father in law) attack him through me, as his son-in-law."

“Nevertheless, my conscience is clear. I will continue to stick to my principles and political struggles.

“If members are unsure about certain things they have heard, just SMS me. I will answer. Hear directly from the person concerned.”

“I did not want to respond initially. This can cause infighting within Umno and we don't want to weaken the party. However, lately, some of the attacks have been of a personal nature.”

Khairy swore that he was only married to one person – Nori Abdullah (the Prime Minister's daughter), and challenged anyone to prove that he had two marriage certificates.

Khairy said this following persistent talk that he was also married to actress Maya Karin, who became famous following her lead role in the hit movie Pontianak Harum Sundal Malam.

He also urged people to check who actually owned Alliance Bank which was sold to Singaporean interests and who had owned Pantai Holdings Bhd before it was sold to the Singaporean investment arm Temasek Holdings.

On the sale of MV Augusta by Proton Holdings for one euro, Khairy said: “Even KTM Bhd at one time (during its loss-making days) was offered to prospective buyers at RM1. The same when DRB Hicom sold off AirAsia which was making losses. So selling off companies at nominal market value is a normal thing.”

On the crooked bridge to Singapore, Khairy said Malaysia stood to lose billions if Singapore filed a suit in the International Court over the project.

“Just imagine, the bridge is almost completed, then Singapore files a suit which may take three to four years of deliberation before a decision is reached,” he said.

Finally, hopefully, the superstar son-in-law may tell us what he had done.

What puzzles me is why he mention Augusta. I thought nobody had link Augusta with him. Why is he jittery about Augusta when nobody said it relates to him? Is it guilty conscience or pre-emptive actions to alleviate any possible linkage in the coming season? Only he knows.

Alliance Bank was surely sold to Singaporean, we all know, it was widely published in the news? Why remind us? Why don't tell us who is the broker and financial advisors? That is what many people are interested to know because it was rumoured that the transaction was worth millions of dollars of commissions and because of this, the question arise was the issue of kleptocratic involvement with no defined person or institution being named, but pondered. Other than this is Pantai Holding and Singapore Mobile1 transactions which smells rat.

I believe if Khairy would be more sentitive to the public's perception and keep himself transparent and accountable to the public (as his role as the son-in-law and strategist for the PM could raise potential conflict of interest and personal interest), he could in fact win over the public support and propel his political career to the apex. But he has to convincingly show that he will and would represent all Malaysians, people of every race, not just UMNO. No national leaders can thrive by being a leader of a singular race or creed. Malaysia is a multi-racial country and irrespective, it is paramount to win over everyones heart and trusts. Could he? So far, he hasn't shown an iota. Will he? I am still paranoid but I wish to dream that he would. Will you, dear superstar?
