Thoughts for the Day

I do not believe that sheer suffering teaches. If suffering alone taught, all the world would be wise, since everyone suffers. To suffering must be added mourning and the willingness to remain vulnerable.

Some people do learn from suffering but few do. In many instances, suffering makes the victims more or less resigned to their fate. Few actually make it a point to break out of their suffering and rise above their "fate". At best suffering makes us more stoic.

But I am a firm believer that there are lessons to be learnt from suffering and it makes better people out of us when we have to experience it.

I see suffering as unnecessary though and is the result of selfishness among us.
