Malaysia University of Science and Technology (MUST), which was established in 2002 by the government with the aim of boosting Malaysia’s R&D capacity and who boasted to have strategic partnership and participation of world renown Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is gone down under. The research ties with MIT have been. discontinued.
"Whatever ties are left are mainly on a personal basis between the professors and not officially through the university," the source said.
The university is operating with about 10 students. You believe it? World renowned university has only 10 students?
MUST, at its peak, has an average of 20 students in each of the seven programmes offered.
Now, the government has to take a hard look at the future of the Malaysia University of Science and Technology (MUST).
Higher Education Minister Datuk Mustapa Mohamad said the government had allocated RM3 million in scholarships for 75 athletes to study at the university to keep it alive.
Datuk Mustapa said the government had asked a group of experts to assess and make proposals for the future of MUST, which is privately-owned but indirectly sponsored by the government through scholarships for the students.
"We are waiting for the recommendations," Mustapa said.
No students interested to study there? Why? Even the 10 students are sponsored by the government.
Malaysia sungguh boleh!

MUST is not quite an IPTA. They are not sponsored by the gomen, at least according to my friend who is one of the 10 survivors there.
well...
many malaysian parents now aware and agreed that degrees awarded or conferred by malaysian university are much equivalent to toilet paper rolls, be in locally and worst, overseas.
no good reason to send children to local university... except for UNITAR where it has been much recognised as highest standard / benchmarked for education in the country by foreign best universities from UK, US, Australia, NZ and Singapore too.
other universities are just another toilet paper manufactured other than toilet papers companies.
something for government to ponder, to make the country best for education and not centre to attract foreign prostitutes using studfent visa...
eemmm.... nice pussy cat!

Sorry to bring out the "marginalisation" issue, I think it should be rephrased to
"Not enough bumiputra students are qualify to study there?"
What is happening? I mean "WHAT IS HAPPENING??? At last count, please tell me how many universities and how many "universities" does Malaysia have?? And our leaders are crowing all over Asia that we are promoting 'Execellence in Education'. Pulezzzzzz, I am embarassed to be called a Malaysian (in this context).
