An Olive Branch from UMNO to Non-Malays

There is common misperception that only the Malays had fought against communist terrorists in the early years of the country’s independence, said Information Minister Datuk Seri Zainuddin Maidin.
The Chinese too contributed, he said, adding that this helped to bring the Malays and Chinese closer together.

“The young generation should be told about such history,” Zam said.

Thank you Zam as this is a first time we hear you talk more like a Malaysian of which you had always portrayed yourself as UMNO and Malaysia as Malays.

It was true that the Chinese fought alongside the Malays against the Communists and Communist is not Chinese. Rashid Mydin is Malay. Stalin and Lenin are not Chinese. Karl Marx is German and Mao Tze Tong is of course Chinese.

The Malaysian Chinese not only fought alongside the Malays to thwart the Communists, they also supported UMNO to form the Alliance Party which would ultimately secure Independence for Malaysia, only to be told later that they should not challenge the "Perceived Rights" of the Malays and if they didn't like it, they can leave the country. If they had to leave, where do they go? They will be countryless and only way is to seek political refuge somewhere unless they are absolutely filthy rich where the capitalists welcome them.

Probably, on hindsight, that's the price you pay for blind faith and trust and at the current, being a second-class citizen, deprived of democracy and marginalised in terms of economic opportunity and employment in the civil service.

So, instead of having a meritocratic system, the appeal for sedekah, is, "bring back the quota system" to replace the mediocritic system; settling for not so worse instead of worst. In the early days, It was UMNO who needed the Quota System in order to level the playing field. However, over time, it was over-leveled and lop-sided till a point that employment in the civil service and uniform service is almost 99.9%.

So, PPP chief M.Kayveas called for the re-introduction of the quota system of 60:25:10:5 system (Bumis:Chinese:Indians:Others).

However, Prime Minister Abdullah had an olive branch paylayed yesterday, at least morally right, and at least, sounds right. Whether it would be implemented or not, or to be changed again at later UMNO general assembly, it is left to be seen.

Pak Lah now calls for the return to National Type Schools instead of Vision Schools.

Abdullah said the government had realised that National Schools had played an important role in nation building and bringing back the various races together.

Abdullah also said that the government in its quest to urge more parents to send their children to national school had even decided to include Mandarin and Tamil in the school syllabus.

"Mandarin is no longer the language of one community. It's the language of commerce and more people are learning it," said Pak Lah.

"This is our country. It is our responsibility to ensure the success of our country," Pak Lah reaffirmed.

I am extremely delighted with Pak Lah for his intelligible language used. Whether it is only his or whether UMNO shared his vision, is yet to be seen. But observing the recent UMNO General Assembly, this philosophy and ideology of "Our Country" is contrasting - there, it was repeatedly propagated as Malay Agenda and bathing in the ...??? Would UMNO confirm that it's OUR Country?

" Did it boils down to Them vs US"?

The Malaysian Chinese today can be compared to the Acheh people who fought tooth and nail against the Dutch after WW2. Acheh was sweet-talked by the Javanese that they would enjoy wide autonomy after defeating the Dutch, only to be treated as 2nd-class Indonesians up till today. The same can be said for the Red Indians who placed too much trust with the white Americans, only to end up in reservations.

politians are all the same!

many are idiots, but the umno-putras are worst idiots than others...

they can't boost the nation economy and relying 99% per cent on the Chinese for their survival... taxes!

sweet talk here and there is what they good at - hoping the Chinese cool off and not running away migrating with their monies overseas - Singapore Australia NZ Canada even the States.

the indians are doing better than malays ma... mamak stall captured 99% night business of the muslims.

given no change in attitude of current D***keys of PM and DPM, like TDM - by 2020, we see the malays and umno-putras sweeping the roads even the toll roads too.

thumbs up - UMNO, for shooting your own feet with best policy that lead you to graveyard.

thumbs up!!!

what olive branch? the olives are dried.

it's a fact the chinese fought against the communist. if there was any misperception, blame it on the pseudo-malay nationalists. don't take the credit away from the chinese and offer it back to them as barter trade.

Lucia, that Zam is a celebrity actor.

Bayi, we can only live with hope...for a better tomorrow.

Michael ChoonT, Lim Ah Lek and the MCAs are only interested in enriching themselves. That's why the Chinese are what they had to face today. In fact, OKT seems had done slightly better today then his predecessors tho' the ultimate objective is till, their own prosperity.

Sounded like election is just around the corner!

As usual, such talks are only reserved for the elections. Hypocrite? Acting? You bet. But, they had worked almost all the times! Unless we all wise up and kick these politicians out of office, they will continue to donkey-ing around.
