The Star Spins Big and Loud:
MCA the sole voice of the Chinese
Star reported that MCA had without fail, voiced the feelings of the Chinese Community at all internal meetings in the government and Barisan National.
The general election may not be too far away and MCA have to do something as most of the Chinese are fed up with their "elegant silence" role they had played.
Ong Kah Ting, the president said: "We don;t make superficial statements and leave problems unresolved".
According to KT Ong, MCA has its constraints - on one hand they had to safeguard the interests of the community, and on the other hand, they had to maintain racial harmony and national unity.
We do not doubt the existence of these constraints. However, it looks more like, on one hand, they need the votes and therefore had to pretend to represent the community interest where, in actual fact, they had mammoth personal interests and gains agendas and would not have time for "petty" issues; on the other hand, they had to kowtow to their bigger brother in all aspects of privileges and special rights, not as enshrined but as presumed by proclamation. They can continue to pretend to represent the community who had already gave-up on them. The community had already lost hope...
On the issue of lack of scholarships for the Chinese students, KT Ong said MCA had done a lot and had lobbied the government and JPA to increase considerably the numbers of Chinese scholarship holders. Over the last 6 years, JPA had offered about 1,500 scholarships to Chinese students. What? 6 years and only a pathetic 1,500 and that counts as success and great efforts? Each year JPA granted thousands of scholarships and based on 6 years average, MCA had lobbied and got about 250 for each year and that counts as great job done for the community?
How would MCA fare in the coming general election? Would we see a paradigm shift? Sarawak election had seen the emergence of a new paradigm. Will that shift flow into the peninsula?
Would Anwar and Mahathir also join hands in a strategic alliance with PAS and DAP for the coming election?

The MCA will win big again in the coming general election because their candidates dare to contest only in non-Chinese majority constituencies. The only great job the MCA has done for the Chinese community is to reduce that community into a second-class one.
agree wiht anon....
mca has done nothing la.....
they are just the Chinese PR arm of UMNO...
translated, OKT REALLY means:
national unity = UMNO's orders/wishes
voice of the Chinese = those in MCA = crooks ?
mca, voice of the chinese? argh!! ughh!! eek!! ptui!!
should be voice for umno.
Sounded like he was saying "I am the master of all liars". Well, he sets the benchmark, didn't he?
I read it somewhere, the annual government scholarships for overseas studies cost RM2 BILLION per year! So 1500 students over 6 damn years is worth the print ya. He should be mourning instead!
I saw that in the Star too when I stole a look at my gym. Yeah, 2 BIG spread.
Well, I didn't have to checkout the comics section after reading the spread.. lol
