Do not be surprised if you find the Director-General of JKR and DID driving you to the airport or back from the airport.
Hahaha....it may be unlikely, but it is very likely you may find those lower income civil servants driving you around the city or to the airport.
This was revealed by Malaysian Taxi, Limousine and Hired Car Drivers and Operators Association (MTLHCDOA) president Yusoff Lahir to NSTP.
We may feel sorry for these civil servants as they have to pay excessive toll charges to travel to work, pay petrol for their car of which the govt had increase the price of fuel 3-times last year, but their salary remains the same. These Government servants have to do moonlighting as cabbies at night to survive. According to Yusoff, they were forced to take up the job to earn extra income to make ends meet. Yusoff said there are about 2,000 to 3,000 taxis in Klang Valley which are operated by civil servants.
And Pak Lah is spending RM200 million to get himself a new Air-force 1 jet plane to fly him around the world and a Cobra Sultan for his fishing trip with Ananda.

8 milyon dolara mal olacak
GÜNEY Afrika'dan ithal edilen akaju, maun, sipo ve brimanya ağaçları kullanılarak yaklaşık 16 ayda tamamlanması beklenen yatta yaklaşık 60 işçinin çalıştığı belirtildi. Yat, 12 ay sonra teslim edilecek. 14 kişi kapasiteli 44 metre uzunluğundaki yatın 8 milyon dolara mal olacağı belirtildi.

That is true, I got many colleagues driving taxing in evening. I can say 6 out of 10 times I took taxi, the drivers are civil servants.
Tough time...seems tougher ahead.
Hey, did paklah bought the Air Force 1 and Cobra Sultan with moonlighting in mind? If he meant to earn extra income for the country, we have misunderstood his good intentions.
oh and don't be surprised when the cabbie who is a gomen servant grumbled to you about the gomen. :)
well this news doesn't come as a surprise to me. i'm sure they are not only moonlight as cabbie but some other jobs too like petrol pump attendant, waiters/waitress in fast food restaurants, etc.
what does this tell? miserable pay!
YOu know what? It may seems funny but I feel sorry for the government servants who have to moonlight for extra money to survive.
Yes...yes, since when has Pak Lah gone sailing craze with the Turks???
A bit over-the-top...I hope he is spending his own hard -earned money. Then, there'd be no problem wouldn't it?
NvdV
Nina, it was hard-earned money; guess whose!
Lucia, those who moonlight, they are honest people earning honest income and yet struggling to survive. There are bunches of others who goes round selling projects and connections for a living.
Hasilox, you funny guy!
Kenny, are you doing it too? LOL!
The problem is more than just salary. The main culprit is the disproportionate costs. We can pick almost any item and compare its cost with that in another country's cities. Ours is more expensive in terms of salary-price comparison.
Just the tolls alone is already almost 'life-threatening'. Worst still, there isn't other practical choice for many. The public transports left much to be desired.
I think it is very critical to correct the salary-price imbalance. Otherwise, salary increase has little impact.
