New Moral Code is now a moral concern

In my article yesterday: labyrinth of Corridors, I wrote about the trillions of dollars needed by the government to fund them:

"In order to get all these projects off the ground, the nation may need funds to the tune of trillions.

An initial US$56bil (RM200bil) will be necessary. I am not sure how Pak Lah will get this RM200bil... Petronas may have to contribute probably half of it and Khazanah will need to contribute a quarter of it by way of foreign loans via bonds. The balance could be from taxation and duties. Customs department and IRB will be able to generate RM60bil and if that's not enough, the police could ship in by way of increasing the issue of summonses, and the local authorities could help raise funds from increasing the quit rents, assessment taxes, licensing and fees."

Just only one day, now we hear the self-fulfilling prophesy. Today, The Star reported: Government mulls over fast-food ad ban

The Health Ministry is “seriously considering” a ban on fast food advertisements.

Minister Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek said the health ministry is "seriously considering" a ban on fast food advertisement and alternatively, a fast food "SIN TAX" will be imposed soon.

This was because such meals are considered “silent killers,” Chua Soi Lek said.

He said the rationale for the proposal was motivated by the increasing number of Malaysians suffering from “affluent” diseases, such as diabetes and hypertension ... and (this is absolutely half-truth).

The truth is that the government needed money and it's best to get these monies from SIN TAX and from sinners. So we sinners must pay to increase the government revenue and to provide the necessary fundings for those within the political oligarchy who needed to get rich quick. In fact, the government is looking at each and every possibilities to generate greater income and revenues to meet the manic bulimia. The problem isn't about Ali Baba... it was about the 40 thieves that are creating the rules.

We will hear more and more of new and more of far insidious initiatives which will be dressed in linguistic moral code and the standard use of irrelevant expressions appended on the social context for which it will be derived.

We shall not hope for success but rather to learn from our failures!

Who and What is the Silent Killer?

I thought Chua Soi Lek's statement on fast foods as one of the dumbest he's ever made, he should be ashamed of calling himself a professional doctor.

First of all, THEY ARE FOOD. The chemical content of McDonalds and KFC isn't much different from what the average Malaysian eats at home. To equate them with cigarettes and alcohol is stupid.

Most forms of food can be potentially harmful if you do not eat wisely. Yes, fast foods have rather high fat content, so does Roti Canai, Nasi Kandar, Char Koay Teow, Chicken Rice, home cooked Fried Chicken, Kari Ayam, Fried Eggs etc.

Malaysians face a serious health issue caused by overeating, eating an unbalanced diet and not exercising enough. That's a health education issue which needs to be tackled directly. Its silly to attack fast food advertisements.

The fact is the Badawi administration's campaign to feed its cronies is financially irresponsible, they are scrounging up all kinds of hare-brained ideas to dig up more revenue - remember the tax allowances ? They raise toll rates, increase the petrol price. If your employer is kind enough to assist you by paying you an allowance for daily travel, the government wants a slice of that, too...

I was going to sign off for a few days, and enjoy my Chinese New Year, but this sleepy administration never ceases to get me all worked up...

The proposed fast food "SIN TAX" is to be used to fund the transportation and administrative expenses of parachuting matrempits over the north pole. It costs USD25,000 of public funds for each of these idiots to have that little bit of fun. Just hope the release mechanism of the parachutes freeze over there and those worthless pampered bums will return home in bodybags.
