Acceptable to Society? What?

Prime Minister and the propounder of the Islam Hadhari, Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said he wants Muslims to be a group that is accepted by everyone and not a group that has become a burden to society.

While I applaud this statement of wisdom, I can't help but wonder whether it is true or otherwise, that Muslims are yet to be a group that is acceptable to everyone and a burden to society.

I had to disagree with this hypothesi of Pak Lah. Muslims in general was never a problem or issue. But groups of people who happen to be Muslims in Malaysia, moulded by the political-patronage system and dependent upon handouts, had become parasitical and wealth-grabber, are. It's not Muslim per se and not the Muslims that is supposed to be, in accordance with the teachings of the Holy Prophet and The Book - the Quran. They are deviators and dissenters of The Book. These group were influencial and powerful in the sense that they are the king-makers and manipulators of the political system; but they were bred within and a thoroughbred. There will not be a solution neither any turnaround. They are turncoats, blowing with the wind of political prosperity.

Hello hello my friend...

I think in Malaysia Muslims = Malays hence the statement you made about "parasitical & wealth grabber'. That is not a "Muslim trait" but more a consequential effect of being spoon-fed for too long (of course, I am saying this with a broad brush as I know many Malay/Muslims who are not lazy (although debatable about materialisticism)).

I agree that Muslims in general has a bad rep due to the global Islamophobia.

I don't think Malay/Muslims are the only ones who are materialistic. I think this is teh same everywhere in every race especially amongst those who have been deprived of money for decaded. Nouveau riche, so to speak.

Parasitical? Well, if they give people (anyone) the chance to live off the system for too long, they'd never learn how to survive meritocracy...

I hope the great propounder of Islam Hadhari can read the 2 articles below and lift his head high up without shame.
