NST headlined: "Lack of sex education leads to 'experiment'. Was it the empirical reasons why school children were lead to "experiment" sex?
This is worth pondering. Is it true?
In US and Europe, they had sex education and the problems still persist. In fact, there are so many cases of teachers providing "training" and practical lessons to students. Surprisingly, many of the reported cases involved women teachers between the age of 35-40 who had sex with their pupils who are between 13-15 years old.
My main worry for Malaysia is not the lady teachers, for I believed our society here is much more conservative in thoughts and ideologies. My main concerned is the male teachers who could take advantage of the situation and abuses the innocent schoolgirls. There are already so much news and reports where teachers and national service trainers were reported to have abuses their position.
I am not against sex education in school but my concern is the ability and competencies of these teachers who are disseminating their knowledge and their lack of skills and "mens rea".
By next year, we would be able to know the results of how effective the sex education introduced. I just hope we won't have too many students getting pregnant with unwanted babies. God bless the students.

dont we all already know....
mave,
i would think society in general need to do away with their hang-ups about sex. the fact is we are pro-creating creatures. and we are on the verge of an AIDS epidemic.
i think sex education is important to
1. promote safe sex and tell these jokers that it is ok if they are over the legal age of consent
2. educate children on the BOUNDARIES between them and their male family members. if any of them fondles/molests/rapes them, they will know it is WRONG to do so and report it earlier to their teachers or whatever. so i think sex education should be introduced as early as possible either std 6 or form 1.
3. also, it may help create respect btw the sexes. as islam is generally a chauvinistic religion. it will reduce sexual harassment...whether intentional or not. some muslim males feel that it's perfectly normal to fondle women, esp younger ones.
4. but regarding sex training. it is probably rampant already with many volunteering themselves to be trained. the world is not short of male trainers.
but agree that society here is more conservative. however this means a greater need to educate as sexual topics are taboo and seldom discussed.
cheers.
Theory must come with practical right? But in this situation is not. It depends on self control on each individual. I never have any experience on this, I bet you not believe me.
Sex education does more evil than good except if incorporated into religious or moral education. Then it will have the balancing factor needed to offset the purely animal desire in all of us.
Our ministers and officers always give out-of-the-world excuses/explanations. Simply quote as long as it sounded good. I think this is Boleh Syndrome, a 'tikam-tikam' disease in bolehland.
Mave, I don't think the sex education are NOT mean to reduce teenage sex problem, but to create awareness for the young protect themselves. At least, teach them take protective measurement when self control fails.
You can't judge sex education are unnecessary because of teacher "taking experiment opportunity" to have sex with the students. Why see a few three but miss the whole forest, there is 1000 times more case of teenage involve in un-protective sex.
IMHO, when come to "real things", moral teaching is nothing but paper tigers.

Don't be surprise coming 2008, we will see many UMNO leaders and kampung chiefs opting for Teacher jobs in rural areas...
That will be their Free Kentucky Feasting day for all...

If only they stop looking at Sex as a Taboo or kept it hidden away from everyone, Bolehland might have a chance to 'Grow-Up'. But again, even if the teachers educate the children about sex, the parents will be too blind to see past their own ignorance.
