SPM: Utusan screwed up.

Long before the SPM results were to be announced, Utusan Malaysia pronounced that Nadiah Amirah Jamil of SMK Tun Sardon, Batu Pahat, Johor would score 19 A1s.

The publisher even get her to write 2 books on her achievements. The first, Diari Nadiah and the 2nd Meniti Kecermelangan, would be released soon.

Finally yesterday, the SPM result was revealed. Nadia scored 14 A1s, 4 A2s, and 1B3.

It was an excellent feat. It was an outstanding achievement but because of the publication earlier, it caused embarrassments.

Why did Utusan make the pronouncement? Did they had the privilege to view her results before the education ministry finalised it and verify it? Did Utusan fore-know the results?

Prime Minister Pak Lah said Utusan owed an apology to Nadiah for the incorrect report. "The newspaper really carried her up, giving her hope that she would score 19 A1s but she only got 14 A1s. I think the newspapers should apologise as it has embarrassed her," Pak Lah said.

"She never said she would get 19 A1s and nobody would be able to tell until the results come out," he said.

Johor Mentri Besar Abdul Ghani had always cried that the rural areas are not competing on a level playing field.

Siti Fatimah Mukhtar gtom Sekolah Menengah Agama Maahad Muhammadi, Kota Bahru scored 17 A1s and 2A2s.

Kelantan had been left behind from substantial progressive economic development since the opposition party PAS had come into power. But they produced excellent students and in fact Siti Fatimah was the top scorer of the country in the SPM. So, what was the factor? Is it uneven level playing fields or failure of the system administrators to provide a level playing field, that is, adequate facilities and utilities for the rural schools and siphoning those monies to other non-efficient projects for political cronies?

Congratulations to the others:

K. Sathyvelu from SMK Jalan Bukit, Kuala Lumpur obtained 15 A1s. His father is only a carpenter. he tuitoned at Sri Murugan Centre.

C. Sivaneswary, a student from SMK Puchong Utama, and M. Govindrajan from SMK Taman Sri Muda also top scored at their respective schools.

They come from poor family; didn't have the NEP handout; were marginalised; hardly had enough earnings for survival; yet their children all did well in education. Yet, they did not cry uneven level playing fields?

Congratulations to Melissa Sia Yin Ting from Kian Kok Middle School, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. She scored 16 A1s.

Congratulations to Nadia Rohani Malik Panter Brick of SMK Agama Nurul Ittifaq, Kuala Besut, Trengganu who scored 14 A1s.

Congratulations to all who pass the SPM and may you continue your educational journey to the pinnacle of Wisdom.

Funny why all those SPM top scorers dare not take 10 subjects in the STPM (Pengajian Am, MUET, 4 Science and 4 Arts). Or is it due to the fact that STPM is such a tough exam that these scorers steer clear of it by taking the Matrikulasi?

What did Pak Lah mean by saying that Utusan should apologise to Nadiah? Utusan should apologise to all the readers for bearing false news! The newspaper behaved arrogantly by doing what it did.

Has utusan apologisd yet? i seriously doubt anyone is going 2 try their luck n break the records now that there's so much criticisme going on. But im sure most of those who took loads of subjects did it 4 the personal challenge and not for fame. I'm positive that quite a few didnt want their results splashed on the papers 4 all to see either.
