State Legal Advisor had never advises?

Judge ticks off state legal adviser

Perak state legal adviser Datuk Engku Nor Faizah Engku Atek came in for a tongue-lashing from an irate High Court judge yesterday.

Datuk V.T. Singham said Engku Nor Faizah should see it fit to come to his court as "all previous SLAs had come here to handle cases". "Why is the SLA not here? Be honest. You want to hold the position, you come to court. Represent the state government," Judge Singham said.

Singham said he had never seen Engku Nor Faizah in his court since she assumed her post three years ago. The judge’s blistering comments came after he was kept waiting for two hours and fifteen minutes by assistant SLA Norazim Mohd Narawi. Norazim was supposed to be in court at 9.15am but only turned up at 11.30am.

The judge said other cases had been postponed to give priority to the 2001 case and that two valuers appointed to assist the court had also been kept waiting indefinitely. Norazim told Judge Singham that Engku Nor Faizah was busy with official duties. Singham said that it was the SLA’s duty to be in court when the state was involved in a land matter. This was especially so, he added, when her assistant was busy handling other cases.

"We talk about efficiency and transparency. The SLA must come to court and assist the court. Why should you go to this court and that court?"

To this, Norazim said: "I take responsibility. Let me take the blame."

However, Singham pointed out that Norazim should not take the blame "for the sake of taking the blame or for fear of being reprimanded".

Is this the efficiency of our system administrators? Where is Pak Lah's KPI?

Busy? Never had attended to court cases, yet is the state's legal advisor? Wow!
