Award-winning actress Sharifah Amani has been accused of being unIslamic for going bald."Unlike Muslim men, going bald for Muslim women is forbidden in Islam," said Selangor Mufti Datuk Tamyis.
Tamyis added that Muslim artistes should not degrade themselves and their religion for the sake of getting popular.
According to Perak Mufti Harussani Idris, he said he had observed that artistes are becoming too daring and open, either, in their actions or attire. Harussani argued that "Muslims should not sacrifice their religion for the sake of popularity.
Jakim Director-general Datuk Mustafa said it already had guidelines that serves as law to Muslim. "How are we going to compel them to follow the guidelines. We cannot force the artiste," Mustafa said.
I didn't realise that guidelines are law as enunciated by Mustafa. I had always believed that all laws must conform to the "legal norms" process of validation. For common laws, it has to get the parliament to approved it. For Islamic law, there is an authority to validate the law and then pronounced the fatwa. Guidelines are institutional conceptualization and meant to assist and guide behaviors. They are normally conforming to the requirements of the subject matter but they are and will never be law until it had been approved by the ultimate authority that are empowered by the state in conformance with it's legal order and norms.

I believe too that we should not judge the Ulama based on our own perception and it is reasonable to to say that Muslim should be left to settle their own issues.
As a scholar in the field of Islam of which I had so much passion to learn, what I hope is ethical and intellectual discourse to better understand a philosophy. I would not judge but it is fair comment to asked questions so as to find out. Equally, based on the rule of natural justice and jurisprudence, it is humane to feel empathetic towards a directive or statement that had failed the test of natural justice and the rule of natural law. However, it's opinionated and subjective and should not be conclusive over a philosophical approach of another class.

I dont agree with tearng bulan. I think to allow people to upgrade themselves to the level of ulama based on their ability to produce 'guidelines' are not necessarily right either.
Also, it is not very progressive to separate Muslim rules and judgements in a multi-racial country like Malaysia where the rules and guidelines for the Malays/Muslims have its impact on the other races.

God will always remain as He is. His teachings will always remain unchanged. It is each man who interprets according to what his needs and motives are that creates confusion. It's the same with every religion. We have it in Islam, in Christianity and any other religion. God or religion should not be judged by what men say, purportedly on His behalf. Religion is a personal-to-holder matter. It's between a person and God.
The muftis, especially the northern state one who always makes so much noise, should just shut up.

I concur with young malaysian. It's her own head so it is her right to do what she like, don't need others to tell her what to do. Anyway what rights are we talking about, when Muslims does not have any rights at all. The most obvous example is, the no right to choose religion!
