Local Councils owed a total of $162mil to waste management concessionaires as of last year.
Somehow, the taxes added and collected was not enough to cover the council expenses. Added to the council woes, they had to budget for additional expenses for the study trips to Africa, Mauritius, and Christmas Island to observe how the foreign councils manage their toilet. The council would have to consider increasing taxes and quit rents to balance their cash flow.
Perak Mufti called on Muslims not to work in nightclubs.
The government had announced so many projects and would need additional revenue to fund the projects. Petronas had warned the government that their revenue would shrink by 2010. At such, the government had no choice but to increase taxes. As an immediate solution, the government had increase tobacco duties by more than 10%. Beer and liquor duties and taxes will be increase soon. Gambling, nightclubs and karaoke taxes will also be increase. Since prostitution is outlawed, no taxes will be levied. Other taxes under consideration are leisure and income tax.
PECD Dubai project had being terminated.
PECD said Seven Tides Ltd, the developer of Oceana Hotal and Luxury apartment at Palm Jumeirah project has served termination notice to PECD Construction Sdn Bhd for delay default and lack of performance. PECD has RM270 million worth of contracts under Package 2 and 56.7 million contract works under package 1.
The $1.5bil Broga incineration project is called off.
That's not true. We are heading somewhere!
Parents of Child genius Adi Putra Abdul Ghani is appealing to the Education Ministry to exempt Adi to skip UPSR and other exams. Komala Devi said Adi is a genius and could be exempted as he is a genius. A genius need not sit for exam because they are genius.

Parents of "child genius" Adi Putra Abdul Ghani is appealing to the Education Ministry to exempt Adi to skip UPSR and other exams. Yeah, straight away give the 11-year old a PhD and appoint him the new dean of Universiti Malaya.
"The government had announced so many projects and would need additional revenue to fund the projects"
In the times of the British there was a "Cukai Kepala" based on the number of persons in each family.
So why not introduce a "Cukai Udara" of say, RM100 monthly for every Malaysian? Then the projects can get a monthly shot in the arm of RM 2.6 billion ringgit every month or RM 31.2 billion annually! 10% discounts must be given to bumis, of course, because they are the pivotal race. (Without them, there is nothing to pivot on)
Even if this outrageous tax is imposed, there are bound to be fools still voting for the BN :sigh:
GO GO ADI PUTERA !
In 2011, Malaysia will join Brasil and other high inflation nation club. By then, UMNO head will be conned to bite the IMF and World bank bullet. The economic hit men is watching us. Taxes will raise and foreign investment will shrink. Civil unrest in 2012 onwards.
If I were the CEO of MAS, AirAsia, hotels, golf clubs, supermarket, Anchor-Guinness and Carlsberg (to name a few), I would immediately terminate the employment of all Muslim staff with one additional paragraph to the termination notice
"We regret that you have been employed by an immoral employer selling immoral products. So as not to get to sin further, under the directives of your Mufti, we hereby, have no choice, but to terminate your service with immediate effect."
With thousands deported into the streets, I hope the Perak Mufti have better have his contingency plans ready as thousands would be going jobless joining the list of already unemployed graduates. And don't blame the non-Muslims for this predicament, but yourself.
Billy..billy..billy....U r another ignorant & moron Malaysian. I believe u r not a muslim. And u r so blind about Islamic laws i.e. what can and what cant!!
If u dont understand Islam and its law, please do not state your comment. Dont use logic when u want to comment on Islam and its law. Please study islam first before u comment. What Perak Mufti said is correct. It is a sin because it involves "subahat". Dont be so ignorant and only use logic when discuss about Islam.
Thank you.
Don't mind me. I'm just enjoying all the other comments.
To Alisya: Yet another Muslim who is so quick to jump in with that stale statement: "If you are not a Muslim, please do not comment" thingy. If you were to read my posting carefully, I am not even saying anything contrary to what your Holy Book says, but merely expressing my main concern, i.e. the employment situation of the Muslim workers in this country.
You said what the Perak Mufti said is correct, i.e. "Don't work in nightclubs. It's a sin for Muslims". Then doesn't this equally applies to Muslims working on MAS, AirAsia, hotels, golf clubs, supermarkets, Anchor-Guinness and Carlsberg (to name a few) where liquors are served or produced? Yes, I am not a Muslim, so it would be better if you explain this situation to me because ultimately, it will have an impact on whether companies as mentioned above should lay off their Muslim staff or even considering recruiting them? It is fortunate that I am running my own business consulting company and not a hotel, for had it been so, I would have to make difficult decisions. My other main concern is that the country is already flooded by 80,000+ unemployed graduates and the government has yet to come out with a solution to solve this crisis. What if this is compounded by Muslims who take the cue from the Perak Mufti and resigned from their jobs? We will then have a humongous social problem, wouldn't we? In fact, within the next two months, my associates and I are planning to work with some varsities to conduct training programmes on "Preparing you for the job interview" which we hope will increase their chances in securing jobs with prospective employers.
There are other issues brought up by the Mufti which I personally feel offended but will not comment on them, since they are somewhat religious in essence:
1. The MyKad is unclean
2. Our money is unclean
Among others, these are the two reasons why Siti (the victim) was penalised by the religious officers.
Oh, did anyone say what action will be taken against law enforcement officers frequenting karaokes? (namely the one in BB where polis go while waiting phone call from their bf)
Alisya,
You may have jump the gun on Billy. You are right to say that it is a sin in Islam to work in nightclub because it involves "subahat". However, Billy was sharing his concern regarding those who work in MAS, hotels, Genting, Beer manufacturers, etc. Won't you think that many Muslims would be out of job if all those organizations started to retrenched the Muslims because their business is Haram? I like your views on this matter.
Alisya
Perhaps you would like to visit this website to understand what I have been driving at. On one hand, we are trying to solve unemployment issues in the country and on the other hand you have people throwing the spanner in the works. It can be really frustrating ....

Billy,
U r right in a lot of ways. But, my point is that do not put your comment on what the Mufti had say on "the Sin employment" issues. If you want to comment or "dispute" on what he said u better had reason why?
My comment on yours actually came from your "quote" ie ["If I were the CEO of MAS, AirAsia, hotels, golf clubs, supermarket, Anchor-Guinness and Carlsberg (to name a few), I would immediately terminate the employment of all Muslim staff with one additional paragraph to the termination notice" & "We regret that you have been employed by an immoral employer selling immoral products. So as not to get to sin further, under the directives of your Mufti, we hereby, have no choice, but to terminate your service with immediate effect."]
IN ISLAM "REZEKI ADA DI MANA2". THE UNEMPLOYMENT ISSUES IN MALAYSIA GOT NOTHING TO DO WITH THE MUFTI ISSUES SUCH FATWAS!!! NOT RELEVANT AT ALL.
IF THOSE MUSLIMS CHOOSE TO WORK IN THE SIN SECTOR, IT IS THEIR CHOICE. THERE IS NO LAWS (COMMON LAW) THAT PROHIBIT MUSLIM FROM WORKING IN THE SIN SECTORS. THAT MUFTI ONLY ISSUE THAT FATWA (IS IT REALLY A FATWA DOC? COS I NEVER READ THE ARTICLE) JUST TO INFORM THE MUSLIMS THAT IT IS A SIN. I DONT THINK THERE WILL BE SUCH ENFORCEMENT TO BRING WHOEVER WORK IN MAS, GENTING OR BAR TO SHARIAH COURT!! UNLESS THEY'RE SUSPECTED INVOLVE IN GAMBLING OR PROSTITUTION OR DRINK LIQUOR IN PUBLIC.
IT IS OUR GOVERNMENT POLICIES THAT HAD CAUSED THE UNEMPLOYMENT ISSUES. WE ARE THOUGHT TO BE A JOB SEEKER. IN SCHOOL, WE ARE THOUGHT TO BE AN EXAM ORIENTED STUDENT. NEVER TO BE A CREATIVE OF PROBLEM SOLVING STUDENT. WE MEMORIZE THIS AND MEMORIZE THAT JUST TO SCORE IN OUR FINAL EXAM. I DONT THINK HOW THEY ARE MANY STUDENTS WHO REALLY WANT TO UNDERSTAND WHAT THEY'RE STUDYING.
I STILL REMEMBER WHEN I WAS STILL IN THE PRIMARY SCHOOL, MY PARENT ALWAYS ASKED ME WHAT I WANT TO BE WHEN I BECOME AN ADULT, MY ANSWER WAS I WANT TO A DOCTOR, SOMETIME ENGINEER OR LAWYER. EVEN THE SCHOOL TEACHER ALL ENCOURAGE THEIR STUDENT TO STUDY HARD, SO THAT THEY CAN GET A VERY GOOD GRADE AND CAN BE A DOCTOR OR LAWYER OR ENGINEER OR ARCHITECT AFTER THAT.
AS A RESULT, HERE I AM. A JOB SEEKER. ONLY REALIZE THIS ABOUT 5 YEARS AGO BUT IT WAS ALREADY TOO LATE BECAUSE I WAS ALREADY TRAPPED IN MY FINANCIAL COMMITMENT.
IT IS POLITIC THAT CREATES ALL THE PROBLEMS NOT RELIGION. ISLAM IS A WAY OF LIFE. SO, WHEN MUFTI ISSUES SUCH FATWAS, HE HAS A GROUND AND REASON WHY IT CAN & IT CANT!!
THANK YOU.
Billy,
If you want to use LOGIC to solve unemployment problems, I have a lot of solutions
a) Legalize drug business, suitable for guys
b) Legalize prostitution, suitable for ladies, guys also can be a pimp
c) Govt to approve Playboy magazine in Malaysia. This will create job for writers, models, photographers, etc.
d) Legalize porn movies.
e) Create more Gambling Center like Genting
f) A lot more that u can think I believe....
Cheers
Alisya,
It was not a Fatwa. But the problems in Malaysia is whatever the Mufti said is construed as Fatwa. That's a danger. In fact, the advice was strictly in accordance with the Quran and therefore would not be a Fatwa but a DECREE by Allah swt.
Aliysha and a million others will never get the drift about guidelines and decrees. Those people just swallow what the mufti can conjure and never think out of the box. Looks to me they don't mind being OK about it so why should it upset us if its not impose upon us...can vomit blood la.
In the whole world's existence, at some time, our inner foment goes out. It is then blow up into flame by an encounter with another magnanimous being. We should all be under obligation recompense those people who rekindle the inner inspiration
