Picture News No.1: Plant Bunga Raya

NST Report

RM70,380 bunga raya trip

By : Sheridan Mahavera

In February last year, six Johor Baru municipal councilmen took their families to Australia and spent RM70,380 of taxpayers’ money — to learn how to plant bunga raya!

Ten months later, another group of councilmen, this time from Kluang, went to Shanghai on another trip paid for by taxpayers.

The objective of the trip is unclear, but the councillors made the trip at the height of the catastrophic floods which hit Johor, when most areas of their district were submerged in knee-deep water.

These were among the complaints forwarded to the Parliamentary Select Committee on Integrity at a public hearing here yesterday.

yeah i read about this in the beritamalaysia group and had wanted to blog about it but i was too enamored by raja nazrin. haha.

i was mad when reading about this. but this is nothing new. it happened so many times already. remember some time ago the story of some gomen men going to saudi arabia to watch belly dancing?

why is there no proper system/ruling on how they were sent overseas for 'work trip'.

Bring back the elections for local councils. Political appointees can never be trusted to care for the municipalilies alloted to them

What is the point having "Parliamentary Select Committee" if there is no action from there beside talk talk talk?

All those Joe public still don't care about local councils election. If we the people can't stop the corruption from the lowest level - local councils, how are we gonna tackle those big bad bandits inside the government.

Agree with Ano. I'm sure the garmen is too busy with their load of problems, so, let the rakyat help ease them their load by helping to choose our local council.

Just so in case somebody is interested... I do plant bunga raya. I'm free and optional online tutorial is available....

Monkey see, monkey do. That's why all these unelected councillors are not accountable. What's the big boss going to say? Don't do as I do?

It has come to the stage when the public has enough of all the committees set up by the government, even if they are important=sounding ones like this Parliamentary Select Committee. Nothing is ever done after they listen to our complaints. These hearings are done just before election to make us think that the government is listening. I have yet to see my MP after he has been elected for 4 years and I am fed up.

You think that I am a skeptic? Look at AAB. He promised a Royal Commission to look into the police force. The Royal Commission did their work and what has happened to their recommendations? AAB diam diam saja despite calls for the implementation of several key recommendations.

Sack all the corrupt councillors. If the government is unable to do so, vote wisely.
