Local Council in Financial Distress

More local council will become insolvent in the next few months or maybe a year or two if they do not increase taxes, quit rents and fees in order to shore up their revenue. This seems to be the opinion voiced by Negri Sembilan MB Mohamad Hasan.

However, Mohamad Hasan did not relate to the pilferages and leakages within the local council. Neither did he share his opinions of the many oversea trips made by local councillors such as the Egypt Belly Dancing, Mauritius Toilet observatory trip, and many more by Selayang Council and many other councils.

So, Malaysians must brace for the likelihood of such increases to justify the cost of maintaining and keep the councils solvent and visitingly.

However much the local councils increase taxes, quit rents and fees, the end result is still having not not enough revenue. This is because these unelected councillors do not have to answer to the voters in order to keep their lucrative jobs. Therefore they can continue to dip their filthy fingers into the till

Hey, the next time you're in Ipoh again, do take note of the recently opened flyover near Pantai Putri Hospital. Look at those lamposts.

You may be looking at a little bit of record there... the world's most expensive public lamposts. Nobody's informed Guinness ppl though..

Never enough coz of the massive leakages. these leeches will impose additional burden on the suffering commoners. for a start, join the petition initiated by RPK of Malaysia Today as one way to voice our displeasure to these leeches.

Also remember a local council ordering million ringgit flower pots (in Penang)? A RM40 million Luxurious Exco Village by the Selangor State government. The aborted RM 89,000 --2 hour of business and 7 nights of pleasure (i.e. belly dancing performance) in Cairo. In 2005, Selangor state local authorities owed Alam Flora RM40 million for grabage disposal rendered since 2000. The Klang land grab ( 9 plots of land at Kg Perepat, Kapar) episode involving a senior MCA leader and a UMNO Trengganu political figure. And the forgotten promises of Local authorities to instal CCTVs in crime prone areas? What happened? Somebody should follow up on this.

And more questionable past activities:

*Thousand ringgit batik given to councilors on pretext of luring foreign tourists;
*Extending study tours to about-to-retire councilors;
*Owing waste management concessionaires RM70 Million (NST April 2005);
Misplaced priorities: environmental damage (i.e Bukit Chahaya Seri Alam Agri park and reserve in Shah Alam);
*CCTVs (as mentioned);
*Public complaints: Waited one year to fix water pipe repair, flat lifts waited one month, two months to a year to fix corridor lighting and pipes (MM Jan 2006);
Wife of ex-mayor found renovating house without approval from local authorities (MM Oct 2005);
*Kayveas rapped local councils for lacking transparency and wasting taxpayers' money and operate like secret societies (MM Oct 2005);
*TI Malaysia called independent inquiry into administration, management and operations of KL City Hall on accusations of inefficiency, malpractices, high-handedness, corruption levelled against local authorities;
* Controversial Advertisement billboard issues (Selangor);

And the list goes on and on. The bottomline for urban voters should be:

"No Local Elections: No Vote for BN"
