Datuk Dr Mazlan Othman, the director-general of National Space Agency said we can built our own rockets and go to space very fast if we would spend like China and India.Spent like China? Do you know what it means?
China's economic growth is 12% (GDP), has a trade surplus of USD$27bil (RM95bil) for the month of June 2007 and a forecasted yearly surplus of some USD$200bil (RM700bil).
In 2005, China's foreign currency reserve is about USD818bil and by October 2006, China's foreign exchange reserves exceeded USD1 trillion for the first time. By mid-2007, the reserves had reached USD1,000 per head for the entire population of China (Source).Malaysia's foreign currency reserves stands at approx USD$91.5bil (as at August 2007) and the forecast GDP growth is 5.5%. We are hardly a fraction of the economic power of China. Added to our financial dilemma is the fact that we had behemoth foreign debts that will take many centuries to payback, if ever we could. And to top it all, we have one of the most corrupt system. A railway man can become a billionaire with just the "NEP" and UMNOmania. Our economic policies are kleptocratic and nepotistic. Our core value system is not about meritocracy. It derives its ability by way of handouts, rent-seeking and enacting policies resembling daylight robberies. The nation is sucked unto its core. The PKA scandal is only one of the case. The Lingham video denotes how the system is being run and managed. The corridors of projects are the newly creative idealistic creature that watered the mouth of the political affiliates and drive their bulimic desires to the highest. We aren't seeing the worse yet. More would be uncovered. The Pandora boxes are aplenty and the worms are creeping out in avalanche.

In any case, the good doctor should have indicated how much the "money" was and what time frame, instead of a statement like "if we spend money like China".
As Director of the National Space Agency, that statement sounded like sour grapes.

She seems to have dissapper from the limelight for the past 2 months. Didn't see any comment from her about the launch? There is a Dr Zulkifli Jusoh who is giving all the press statement. Maybe she got lost trying to go to Baikonur and landed up at Timbuktoo instead. I hope she can find the way back because the National Space Agency needs her input badly. The first task is to organise another seminar to brain storm and finr tune JAKIM's guidelines. Wonder who translated the book into Russian and Arabic? I think we better send Dr Faiz to the moon since we have already been to space. Dr Mazlan must have suggested building our own rocket because we can't tumpang the Russsians since they have not gone there themselves. NASA also have not gone to the moon for a long time. Let get started as soon as possible as the 9th Malaysia Plan is in the 2nd year already. Anyway the cost is only USD 1,000,000,000,000. It is very cheap, only USD 40,000 per Malaysian. So folks, get ready to dig deeper into your pocket.
Someone who talks about making Teh Tarik in space without understanding that there is no gravity in space. It will be better for her to keep her mouth shut. Every staement she made only shows her ignorance and stupidity.
According to her press secretary, Mazlan Othman was misquoted by the media. What she means is that we should borrow billions from China so that we can continue to send cosmonauts to space via Russian spacecraft

We must first progress like China with 12% GDP & with huge foreign reserves before we could talk about spending like China! Or conversely we must have the technology & strong military power like the USA before we could spend like them.
No money but want to spend like China?? Typical NEP mind set. "Chinese" are not Chinese Malaysian who could "sponsor" your various dream projects in Malaysia!
Beware, so call "doctor" Mazlan are showing ambitious to enter politics. Reason : the first sign of enter BN politics is to show how dumb you are.
