“The Malays have never taken to the streets so do not force us to do so as we will draw our parang (machete) to defend the Ketuanan Melayu (Malay supremacy) in this country.”
Abdul Rahim is said to have made the statement in his speech as the chairperson of the Malay Economic Body (Gabem) during a ceremony in Malacca last Saturday. (Source: Malaysiakini and Mental Jog)
My goodness! I couldn't believed myself that a chief minister, albeit an ex-CM, a past UMNO supreme council member, and an influential person from UMNO, would say such thing. Would such statement cause fear and instigate the minds and effect negative thoughts and reactions from those target groups?
If the current government, the A-G and the de facto law minister can accept such statement as justified and not seditious, what's going to happen if other groups would also call on their "people" to take up arm to defend their own creed and assert supremacy?
I hope and pray that the government would prove to the citizen that they are still a sound and sane government; otherwise insanity will take over the nation's people and trigger the clash of civilisation.
We have no reason to take this threat lightly, says Carl G. Jung. Such subversive elements who, sheltered by political hegemony and the sense of justice, are now holding the incendiary torches ready, with nothing to stop the spread of their idiot ism. One should not, however, overestimate the thickness of our social stratum. A rather more pessimistic view would not be unjustified, since the gift of reason and critical reflection is not one of man’s outstanding peculiarities.
Rational argument can only be conducted with some prospect of success only so long as the emotionality of a given situation does not exceed a certain critical degree. If the effective temperature rises above this level, the possibility of reason’s having any effect ceases and its place is taken by slogans and chimerical wish-fantasies. The collective possession results would rapidly develops into a psychic epidemic. (read further here)

Mave,
This is juat an over-reation from a has-been trying to claw up the relevance ladder.... or is it..kidney-oriented thinking philosophy? LOL!!! :-)
i believe him! every single word! I'm a chinese and i'm really afraid that he is inciting his fellows to come against other races with parangs. He is no ordinary citizen, he is a highly regarded UMNO person. My GOSH! i have my plans to go down to Malacca this weekend to visit my elders, but it seems i would need to reconsider now. Just in case his honchos really come at us with parangs...nono...i couln't bear it. Abdullah, do your thing. put him away for good!
Living in fear in his own country...
Gukita,
You amused me with the reference..."Kidney-oriented Thinking Philosophy." I think you are right. That's the problem with "Has-Been" & one who stills aspires for power and position. They would do all, sacrifice any, in order to achieve their goals. The End Justifies the Means; and the Means also justify the end.
YCG,
Fear not, as this is only one man's rhetorics. I believed the citizen as a whole, including most in UMNO wouldn't have concurred with one desperate moron. Remember, this one man is heading Gabem, and you read what the PM told Gabem recently.

ya i had also asked why was the thamby not charged... or just summoned for questioning, for his highly seditious remarks. instead the police had to bully bloggers and go for jeff ooi.

..."we will draw our parang (machete) to defend the Ketuanan Melayu.."
Then why weren't the parangs drawn when the Japs invaded in 1941? Scared stiff by the guns?
this guy in the political wilderness far too long & really out of sync with umno standard procedures - still using parang instead of the c4.
what is the cop going to do? nothing coz he is UMNO fella and no samll fry.
thats the government for you. you believe hindraf is terrorist linked. wish i can believe it but coming from a ball-less institution whihc cant even uphold law and order and subservient press, i pass.
Isn't it a seditious statement ? Err, what happened to those 3 NGOs who made a police report against Jeff Ooi. Can they make a similar report here ?
