One thing that this article did not say is how much tourists spent in neighbouring countries. Is it higher or lower? If tourists spent more in other countries (except higher cost Singapore), then our tourism efforts are failing.

Even Malaysia retails, even for those "classy luxury" shop, only sell outdated, pass season products.
Let me sprain some salts to the wounds. For "big spender" :
If you want new electronics, go Dubai. Malaysian are just too poor for company to launch test product here
If you want new fashion, go Milan. It is cheaper there too. And China buying power has make many luxury brand land on Shanghai.
Need wines? go French.
Want some expensive multi-millions art pieces? Stay in EU and US. In Asia, go to Hong Kong.
Want to spend big cultures $$$$ in Asia? You have Japan, China, Korea and India. Malaysia? Huh! UMNO are not cultures.
