The village heads, through the president of the Perak Village Heads Committee, Sukiman Jalil, said they would resign en mass with effect from May 1. Their resignations were to have been handed over to Nizar on Sunday.The resignation letters were not sent as scheduled.Many village Heads questioned the rationale for quitting.
Menteri Besar Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin said he would not stop the group from quitting or remaining in their posts.
"We have never asked anyone to resign. It is up to them.
"However, they will have to telan semula (retract) all the things said during the press conference on Wednesday if they want to stay on," he said.
If the resignations take place, Nizar said villagers will choose their own ketua kampung from May.

this is stupid. where to find free RM600. these ppl got other perks on top of RM600, where got so stupid to resign? i think these ppl should be politicaly neutral. they should not care who the boss of the state is, just carry out their duties as penghulu

Proposing the Fed govt to continue paying resigned village heads RM600 for non-service is really a good example of how UMNO abuses their power.

haha, the village head wont resigned eventually. for every village head, there are 10 people eyeing that position. where can you find free-for-life RM600 retirement plan, plus other perks. On top they are the so-call head of their kampung, so it's a previlage and power over their community. I also want to be a kampung head myself.
Once they resigned, and someone else take their position, they can forget about becoming a village head again. they will cease to be relevant to their kampung as a chief. at least i think they are not dumb and stupid.
In melaka, I know of a village head who is 78 years old, and couple of years back married a 28 year old bride as the 3rd wife. As a village head, he as certain status + power and money in his kampung, else you think a old man can have so many wifes and new ones as well.
If Perak village head want to resign, pls vote me as a 'village chief' huh.. I am willing to 'contribute' to the community and kampung. (:))
some says they were threatened by somebody apparently from the previous regime, since they were appointed by them, they must quit under the present state govt to prove their loyalty to previous regime...
that somebody warned them if next election should the BN regime voted back to govern the state, they will not be reappointed unless they quit now....
but i am thinking, what if the rakyat continue to vote the present state govt in the next election?... gigit jari la diorang....
Whats the big deal?. Stay if you want, quit if you dont. Wouldnt be a national disaster either way.

All village heads, along with all municipal councellors, mayors, ect MUST be elected by the people to force out the gaji buta deadwood
Tsk...Tsk...UMNO is still trying to use their obsolete methods of buying over people with money. Won't work if there is already a political tsunami for change. These village heads would be stupid to put in their resignations. Their political aspirations and careers as penghulus would see a premature expiry!

Te new State Goverment should terminate all of these fellows and hold democratic elections in the villages. THis is important as these fellows will be like api dalam sekam if they continue ie on the quiet working against the interest of the present state goverment.
Further democratic village elections will be good for the general good of the people and the health of the state goverment.
If the vilagers want them again they will of course can get re elected democratically but State authorities must ensure the democratic elections are not ala UMNO internal elections. No money politics neither should the incumbents get 30 percent defensive shield first before anyone can contest against them. POOOOOODAH UMNO...
