Trengganu BN Crisis

Kijal assemblyman Datuk Ahmad Said was appointed the new Menteri Besar of Terengganu, the office of the Sultan of Terengganu announced today.

The swearing-in is scheduled to take place at the Istana Tamu at 8am tomorrow.

However, the appointment was immediately met with a threat to boycott the swearing-in ceremony by 23 BN assemblymen, including Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh, the representative ousted from the Mentri Besar job.

It is learned that the 22-BN assemblymen will send a protest note to the palace but in a joint declaration this evening, the 22 pledged to stay away from the palace ceremony while some vowed to vacate their seats to force by-elections if Idris was not appointed.

State Umno liaison secretary Datuk Rosol Wahid said the assemblymen would not accept any other appointment as the menteri besar but Idris, who had led the BN to win the state.

“Respect must be given to the rakyat who have given the BN the mandate,” he said. “Respect must also be given to Idris who ensured that the BN retained the two-thirds majority in the legislative assembly.”

Asked if the decision to boycott the swearing-in was disrespectful to the palace, Rosol said: “The people have spoken. But those trying to lobby for the Menteri Besar’s post are the ones disrespectful not just to the palace but also the people and the party.”

In a separate press conference, state Umno Youth chief Mohamad Sabri Alwi repeatedly pleaded for non-interference in the appointment of the menteri besar. “There is no second or third choice, but only Datuk Seri Idris,” he said. “We are not being disrespectful to the palace but they should hear the voice of the people and not a few disgruntled Umno members.”

Did you hear it?

Umno Youth chief Mohamad Sabri said the boycott by the 23-assemblymen from Umno is not being disrespectful to the palace.

State Umno liaison secretary Datuk Rosol Wahid said the people had spoken and those lobbying for the MB post are the one disrespectful to the palace.

If we are going to accept this reasonings, then Umno itself is double-tongue and lacks integrity. Let's refer back to a few cases.

On 19th March, 2008, several hundred Umno members led by Selangor Umno Youth chief Abdul Shukur Idrus, hit out at DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang for calling for a boycott of the swearing-in of the executive council in Perak because the act was disrespectful towards the Sultans who were highly respected by the Malays (source: TheStar Online)

So, when Lim Kit Siang and DAP called for boycott of the swearing-in ceremony, it was construed as contempt and disrespectful to the Sultan. Now, we have 23 BN assemblymen who said they would boycott the swearing-in ceremony and some even vowed to vacate their seats to force by-elections if Idris was not appointed. Isn't this the same? So, what is Umno trying to proof to us Malaysians? Is it that they can do anything and whatever acts, and that it is acceptable and legitimate while any others would be wrong and disrespectful? Is this the ruling party of the nation?

At the same demonstration at Dataran Shah Alam the same day, they asked Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim not to appoint a Deputy Mentri Besar who is a non-Malay and to maintain the previous number of Malay Excos in the state.

On the 16th March 2008, a group of Umno members demonstrated at the Ipoh Padang condemning Lim Kit Siang who had spoken out against the ruler’s choice of state PAS secretary Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin and demanding that Lim Kit Siang apologise directly to the palace and the people of Perak.

Today, Trengganu State Umno liaison secretary Datuk Rosol Wahid said “Respect must be given to the rakyat who have given the BN the mandate.”

If there's any integrity in Umno and for Umno to be respected by all Malaysians, they must prove that they are consistent in their virtues and in conformity with the values espoused in Islam. What did Islam and the Quran say? Did the Quran say Umno believers and Muslim leaders in Umno can speak with double-tongue and act with double standards? Where is their virtues and where is the Islamic values?

The election results in Perak and Selangor had shown that DAP had won almost equal number of seats in Selangor with PKR, and double the scores of PKR's seats in Perak; so by virtue of their majority within the coalition and in respect of the rule of law and natural justice the Barisan Rakyat coalition ought be given the rights to pick the leader from the party that forms the majority within the coalition to be the leader of the state govt. Similarly, DAP and PAS both accepted to appoint Wan Azizah of PKR as the Parliamentary Opposition Leader because PKR had the most number of seats in parliament within the opposition parties. But Umno does not respect the rule of law and neither parliamentary democracy.

The evils of Umno is creeping out in avalanche, and we Malaysians are witnessing it clearly day by day and each passing day. (read about the dubious land deals in Penang) Let those who are blind to the truth and the dishonesties continue to believe in these evil values.

In Surah 2:7 it is pronounced that: "Allah has sealed their hearts and their hearing, and on their eyes there is a covering. Theirs will be an awful doom.

Surah 2: Al Baqarah, Ayat 8-14: "And of mankind are some who say: We believe in Allah and the Last Day, when they believe not. They think to beguile Allah and those who believe, and they beguile none save themselves; but they perceive not. In their hearts is a disease, and Allah increaseth their disease. A painful doom theirs because they lie. And when it is said unto them: Make not mischief in the earth, they say: We are peacemakers only. And when it is said unto them: Believe as the people believe, they say: Shall we believe as the foolish believe? Beware! They indeed are the foolish. But they know not. And when they fall in with those who believe, they say: We believe; but when they go apart to their devils they declare: Lo! we are with you; verily we did but mock."

absolutely no surprise. just like when they condemn peace demo like Bersih, they carry out their own demo in panang n it's deemed legal.

just wonder if the advertisement in national TV on the clip on demo labeled as "Ini Bukan Budaya Kita" was given a different spin such as "Ini Bukan Budaya Kita MELAINKAN JIKA IA DIPELOPORI OLEH UMNO"

Political monsoon in Terengganu
http://www.rockybru.blogspot.com/

Politicians vs Palace. All Umno state assemblyman from Terengganu DEMAND Idris Jusoh to be Menteri Besar OR they will resign from their post - By-election. Story coming.

Follow the breaking news at Hard-T.

All 22 Terengganu Assemblymen have unanimously agreed to boycott the swearing-in ceremony of the Menteri Besar scheduled to be held tomorrow at the Istana Maziah in Kuala Terengganu and insisted that state BN chairman Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh holds that position after the coalition won 2/3 majority in the state during the General Election.

It was said that several of the Assemblymen were willing to resign if someone else becomes MB.

The Palace has announced that Datuk Ahmad Said, 51, the state assemblyman for Kijal, will be made MB. The swearing-in ceremony will be held tomorrow morning.

Terengganu is the only state that has yet to have a MB since the GE two weeks ago.

Interesting indeed.

Why state representatives do not respect the Sultan choice?

Dr Subramaniam, being Minister for Human Resources can take up the Mentri Besar post anytime; am sure he can develop the State equivalent to that of Selangor, if not Perlis.

But why Idris as he is no way better than Khir Toyo; something fishy yeap?

UMNO is as usual playing double standards. If they object to the Sultan, they are respecting the people. If others raise an objection, they are not respecful to the Sultan. They eat thru their arse and shit thru their mouth. That's what UMNO is best at!

When it comes to BN everything that is clear-cut wrong becomes unquestionably right..

Things that they said sometimes are incredibly dumb and foolish that it's amazing to see how they can say them with a straight face.

UMNO has rewired their thought processes. What the normal man sees as immoral and corrupt, 'biadap' even it cannot apply to themselves.

So sad to see that there are many who walk around thinking that this is completely normal, sans religion, sans conscience, ....

Time to ask them what, in their minds does the term "Wakil Rakyat" means,...

cakap mesti bikin siap siap said...

"Kijal assemblyman Ahmad Said has been stripped of his UMNO membership for disobeying party leadership"

So who is biadap?

Very sad indeed.

Can any of PM's minders highlight to him of Oon Yeoh's dream stated in "PM's letter of Guarantee to all Malaysian"?

I think now is the time to exercise this bit -

"The next time any Umno leaders say things that are out of line, I guarantee you I will slap them down straight away."

But, apa-lah not a squeak .... mcam condone action.

My dear new secreatary of umno;

What is the different between Ahmad Said & Dr Mat Isa Sabu of Perlis. Both had defied & disobeyed the beloved leadership of umno.

If one is to be sacked from umno, the other must also follow suit. Not only him all the 9 ADUN of Perlis who go against the wishes of UMNO's President should be sacked.

Extracted below is the opinion of DS Dr Rais Yatim:

What does he has to say about the jokers in Terengganu?

Mave, your heart is full of hatred for umno and it affects your logic. The case of Terengganu and Perak are two distinctly different cases. In the case of Perak, the 3 opposition parties SUBMITTED 3 names to be nominated as MB. Raja Nazrin had selected one. Of course it is a disrespect for Kit Siang to call for boycott when the `Sultan' had dutifully selected one of the names submitted. I would not want to delve into why the Sultan had only called the 3 opposition parties to form an aggreement among themselve and not giving the BN any option.

Terengganu case is totally different. The BN have won 24-8 DUN seat and submitted ONLY ONE name; Idris Jusoh. Why the Majlis Penasihat Pemangku Raja have to scout around `selling' the MB seat to any other candidate is totally irregular behaviour. The Pemangku Raja's role is only to select the candidate presented by the winning party. The Palace doesnt won the Election, the party does. So the Palace have to respect the choiced party to lead and hence, the candidate choosen by the party. Pak Lah should have woken up from his sleep and all this would not happened. Dont have to wait for disaster before taking preventive action. He's already lose face in Perlis.

I would not want to delve with the rest of the post. In negotiation of course you put different views across and try leverage it to your advantage. The onus to decide will be one having the power to do so. Similiar in court, isnt it?

all those hysterical bloggers and commenters who bashed lim kit siang left right centre should now bashed these assemblymen who refuse to attend the swearing in. will they?

UMNOputer always say what to their liking - just like the demo in penang and elsewhere. before election protest is not our culture. now they are doing it - it's ok - they have a right to protest.

with this incident, i have totally lost faith in umno. Begone you unless umno members have the balls to clean up the party. But, i don't see it coming --- and umno is going be history soon.

It's good to see that UMNO is in the same awkward position that DAP was in. And my, do they act any dirrerently? This is definitely a case of UMNO having double standards. When others do it, it's wrong. When UMNOputras do it, they are right. WTF??

CK Tan & Hopeful,

I do agree that there's double standards.

Jefus,

It's hard to get those biadaps to have common sense.

CMBSS,

Ya, I read it.

Gan,

We have double standards of which it is held as equal and fair.

Tak Tumbuh,

Ya, I agree with Rais.

Boon,

I am wondering whether they understand what is biadap.

Bayi,

They won't.

Parlimen,

Thanks for the link.

Maverick SM said...

Gukita,

It is about double standards and completely unIslamic behaviors. If UMNO respects the constitution and respects the Palace, they wouldn't be directing the palace in two different ways.

On one hand, they are absolutely right to point to the facts that it is a constitutional right of the winning party to select the MB for approval by the Sultan; that's your argument and I totally agree with your contention because it is Constitutional.

On the other hand, they sent a memo to Sultan Selangor objecting to any appointment of a non-Muslim as Deputy MB which wasn't a constitutional dictates but based on an ideological construct.

Now, if UMNO wants to apply the constitutional rights, they must do it wholesomely. They cannot pick one that suits them and uses ideological dictates in other circumstances to defeat another person's rights as enshrine in the constitution.

However, your argument here is based on an analysis on an issue and legal point of the appointment of an MB based on constitutional provision but left off this other portion which was inclusive and within the constitutional rights of the others.

Maverick SM said...

Lucia,

What we see is the factual situation of Umno hegemony.

Bayi,

Every one must believe that there is a God above and He sees the evils.

UMNO is showing us their true colours day by day under immense pressure brought on by their spectacular failure at the polls. We expected Pak Lah & co to be humbled, instead these jokers are getting more arrogant and defiant. What a shame.

Ms Gukita,

The rakyat (and thousand of hantu voters) chose the reps (that's why bn won), but the MB position is up to Pemangku Raja (since the King is our Agong, hence, atm, he has no power over who will get the position).

And the Prince had chose Ahmad Said, not Idris (look around, and see why the Sultan is wary about Deris, so damm rude to the King + all those wastage of Wang Ehsan). Do you want this type of person to lead your country? NO. And if the Sultan still has a bit of power to prevent that, then, let him act so.

'sides, UMNO are doing their derhaka moves, which means, expect something really really bad will happen to this people. Best case scenario? Those assemblymen will have their non-confidence vote on the first day of assembly, and the Sultan (Pemnangku Raja) will call for by-election, and trust me, this time, PAS will get it. UMNO is the one who has everything to loose.

Anonymous said...

We may despise umno, but we should support Abdullah on this issue.
Not all royalties are like Raja Nazrin, do we want some rogue royalties to hold MBs by their balls and demand unreasonably from the state governments or even the federal government?

Gukita said...

Mave,
Regarding sending a memo to Sultan Selangor; they are acting as an opposition there. What's wrong? It's up to the Sultan is it not? Same as in court; both sides give their arguments and the Judge make a Judgement. In this case His Majesty's Wisdom he will find the best way. In the case of Terengganu, they are denied their right given by the people through ballot box. Totally different.

Gukita said...

Ms Anonymous,
Hantu voters are ghost stories to humour people like you. My close relative, a diehard PAS is one of the ICT expert employed by the Suruhanjaya Pilihanraya. He could not find any HaNTUs nor manipulation of the system to satisfy certain quarter.

A 24-8 win are Hantu voted win? Compare to Kelantan's 39-6 Win by PAS is not via Hantu Voters? I think you are totally brainwashed. The rest of your post is not worth my reply. Read Maverick's comment and understand the crux of the matter.

Didn't this happen with DAP also, but when reminded, Lim Kit Siang realized his mistake and apologized, I doubt we'll see the same scenario here in Terengganu, I betcha those T'ganu people are regretting having voted for BN already...

Happy Easter, Maverick

Maverick SM said...

Anak Merdeka,

What a shame? Oh, it's more of "what a contradiction of values.

Fair,

I agree that Pak Lah was right on this issue. But my emphasis was that Umno contradicts on their own values and virtues. They act and apply the constitutional rights based on leftist policy.

Gukita,

You are right that Umno are sending a memo to the Sultan as an opposition and His Majesty's wisdon will be the key to upholding the constitutional rights.

But Umno must also not forget that they are the Federal govt and upholding the constitution and ensuring the nation is fair, just and equal for all Malaysians is part of the virtues and integrity of an Islamic govt. They cannot go against the teaching of Islam; that's my emphasis.

Maverick SM said...

Aleckii,

Thanks and Happy easter to you too.

Gukita,

Being consistent in action and thought don't not justify playing 'fed govt' in some cases, but turn 'opposition' when things are not to their advantage. Where does moral and integrity comes in if people start playing these kind of games.

BN won Trengganu, yes they should be MB according to votes right. Even the King has to respect the people wishes. I fully agree.

The problem comes when the Kings says, 'no i don't want this Idis guy, he is kurang-ajar to me, incompetent and etc..', give me another name.

Under our Perlembagan, the King has a right to reject a nomination, and another name can be submitted. UMNO says NO, no other names will be submitted, take this guy cos PM choose him or else.

The King respecting people's vote in BN, has choses another BN guy, Ahmad, with pemangku's help, as he is tired of delaying this. But PM say no, he is not BN guy anymore, cos I sack him now. Then UMNO say, King doesn't respect the people cos Admad is a independent party now, not UNMO member, so the King is not following our Perlembagan.

Even if the King choose another BN guy, he will end up the same fate.

So is this kurang-ajar, and double-standard policy or not?

My brothers and sisters,

The time has come for us to show the UMNOputras another lesson. The first lesson that we taught them during the PRU12 did not seem to penetrate through their thick skulls. Therefore, let us hurt them where they are most vulnerable: money.

Since the UMNO ass lickers love to boycott and “show solidarity”, let us give them a taste of their medicine by boycotting all UMNO and crony owned businesses. Let us drive a stake through their hearts and hopefully come PRU13 they will cease to be relevant.

I am now compiling a list of companies owned by the UMNOputras and their cronies. If you have information or knowledge of any companies owned by these corrupted people, please do not hesitate to email me at barisanr@yahoo.com.

Soon, I will publish a list of UMNOputra related companies for action (boycott) to be taken against them. Jom boikot!

Hidup Barisan Rakyat!

It is not wise to boycott all of UMNO companies, that would be suicidal to malaysia. toll, petronas, and other critical infrastucture belongs to them, boycott will only bring us back to stone-age. It will bring malaysia not good in the end, a mutual destruction to all. Though you can say BN is corrupt in general, but it seems that they also know how to run the govt, either you like it or not.

A self-destruction policy will not go anywhere. the only way is to go slow, take what is good from BN, and not the rotten ones. I am sure that they are good is some area that BR is not good all. And probably BN and BR can mutual co-exist as party friends in future, 'never say never'. It takes time to build a govt, not a rapid change, like the bloody french revolution.
