March08 election 'Not a level playing field'

Umno information chief Muhammad Muhd Taib pointed out that the contributing factors to BN’s performance in the March08 election was due to the role played by bloggers, news portals and short messaging service (SMS).

"It wasn’t a level-playing field between the BN and opposition. BN did not use the portals, SMS and ICT (information and communications technology) to the fullest," he said.

Muhammad noted that the BN lost in the "virtual elections" while opposition had cashed in on using video CDs showing temple demolitions which caused the swing of Indian voters.

Source: Mat Taib jabs Dr M, defends Pak Lah

Why did the BN not use the sms and bloggers? BN had plenty of bloggers who are Pro-Umno and Pro-BN. BN had the main stream media - NST, TheStar and even The Sun, and not forgetting TV and radio stations which are controlled by Zam . BN had billions of dollars to splash out to the voters and each and every BN candidates were to receive millions for their campaign expenses. BN had the whole government machineries, the civil servants including the uniform services, postal voters, and the Election Commission Rashid.

But BN and Mat Taib said "it was an uneven level playing field". What then is an even playing field? It is hard to understand. Umno leaders had often portrayed that the economy is an uneven level playing fields for the Malays; yet all government contracts are awarded to PKK registered Bumiputera contractors only. All Class F contractors are 100% Bumiputera. All land are given to Bumiputeras. All Director-general of govt service institutions are Bumiputeras. Khazanah is Bumiputera-controlled. Malayan Banking Bhd, Telekom Malaysia, Petronas, Tabung Haji, PNB, State SEDCs, Felda, Felcra, Risda, Mardi, Intan, Bernas, Bank Negara, Sime Darby, MAS, IWK, Pos Malaysia, PKNS; you name any institutions or corporations or government departments, quasi-govt corporation; it's all Bumi-controlled; yet it is said to be uneven level playing field for them instead of the contrary. Yet we have to swallow this rhetorics and being blame for all the problems.

The truth is, the beneficiaries and the Bumi people who reap the wealth, reaped billions; but the people are so few of them - Mat Taib is a billionaire; Khir Toyo is billionaire; Khairy and Kali are billionaires; Syed Mokhtar, Kamaladdin, Mukhriz, Mokhzani, are all billionaires. Patrick Badawi is Indian and part Chinese but is a billionaire because of Pak Lah and his family; he is an exception. Vincent Tan is billionaire because of Mahathir. Ananda Khrisnan is a billionaire because of Mahathir's help. Quek Leng Chan is billionaire because of Umno. Lim Goh Tong is billionaire because of Tengku Abdul Rahman and Tun Razak who gave him Genting casino. Samy Vellu is billionaire. Subramaniam is somewhere there. Ling Liong Sik is billionaire. Ong Ka Ting is trying hard to be. Chan Kong Choy would have been if PKFZ is fully paid. But all are somewhat related to Umno.

Nik Aziz is not even a millionaire. Lim Guan Eng was driving a 1980s Toyota Corona before he became Penang Chief Minister. Datuk Seri Dr Wahid Omar retired as JKR Director-general and is staying in a single-storey terrace house. Now he is thinking of buying a double-storey terrace house. Tan Sri Omar retired from JKR as the Director-general and thereafter had to think carefully about whether to buy a Citreon car worth RM120,000 or a cheaper one. My few good friends who were JKR senior management staff are driving Proton Perdana even after they had retired. But please asked ex-JKR D-G and Samy's good buddy Tan Sri Zaini what house is he staying and what car is he driving. DID DG Keizrul's house was robbed and his son reported to the police that approx RM1mil worth of assets was burgled. See the difference?

Khir Toyo was only a dentist before he became MB. See his house now and what car he drives and how many cars he have. Have you read the book $500mil Dollar Man Mat Taib by Alatas? Did you know what car Khairy drive and the car number plate? Did you know Kamaladdin bought Pak Lah a house in Australia worth RM60mil? Did you know Mukhriz got a project from Telekom Malaysia worth RM250mil before Khairy reduced it to RM50mil?

Level playing fields? Ya, leveled by the Oligarchy. Ordinary Malays will remain poor unless they get involved in Umno and fight for positions to be at least a divisional chairman; then it's the road to prosperity. In a more constraint environment, MCA pun boleh; MIC pun boleh. Malaysia boleh.

BN says they have uneven playing field? Crap.. Just look how much coverage BN gets during pre-election. They are all over the place. Why they loss is simply bcoz people already fed-up with BN 'we know what's best for you' policy. We as a nation has grown up.

It's a level playing field only if BN were to win.

So in all the previous elections the field was level. But the March 8 election was a different story...

And add to that, BN ads on mainstream media reach 50 millions, TV Ads, another 50 millions.

And the submarine deal C4 case. SU27 plane deal, etc, reach billions. NS camp annually 500 millions per annum.
etc.

Mike Tyson tak tahu speak Inglish lah - so macam mana tahu meaning of "level-playing field", let alone guna such words.

Tetapi agak dia ada dengar orang lain guna this word being - so ikut saja lah, after all sudah biasa kan "saya yang mengikut perintah".

Mike Tyson is talking out of his arse.
Such a pathetic, and totally unrealistic excuse for the dismal failure of UMNO / BN in the recent elections.
He is a 'has been' and should have never ever been selected to be part of Malaysian politics again.
His stupidity in trying to smuggle millions of $ in cash into Australia, perhaps is an indication of his overall intelligence and integrity.
He is a bloody fool, he wouldn't know a level playing field if he saw one.

I believe UMNO still has not awakened to the reality that the Malays have rejected their racist brand of nationalism. To be truthful, I myself have not yet come to believe that the Malays have registered their rejection of UMNO. The Malaysian model of race based politics was in fact a powder keg waiting to blow up into a typical guerrilla led insurgency; because the lesson of history is that when people have no means to support their family, they will take the law into their own hands. This is a rule of natural law, as we can all see what is going on in Africa and Latin America. The situation in Malaysia was at the tipping point and just a slight nudge and we will be in the middle of such a debilitating insurgency, that will drain the resources of the nation and turn Malaysia into another basket case.

If we will only find the courage to admit the truth that the NEP had no chance of succeeding; because the NEP was a programme of exclusion; and those who held the power of implementing the policy had a vested interest to keep the benefits of such a crazy scheme to themselves. The Chinese was never at any point to blame for the lack of progress of the Malay race. The blame should sit squarely on the shoulders of UMNO leaders. If those in UMNO who held the power of dispensing government largess had any care to improve the fortunes of the Malays, they should have manage the programme in a more responsible and honest manner, but instead they restricted the benefits to their own small clique; hence government largess were given to only connected families. This restricted the programme to too few candidates and the quality of recipients were very low. Malaysian scholarships went to recipients who chose the easy courses of study that had no practical value in the job market, resulting in a colossal waste of scarce resources and it produced a culture of indifference; and it also produced graduates who could not find jobs and had to be absorbed into government service of pen pushers, a total waste of money.

The election of 2008 is a defining moment. For the first time in 50 years history a crucial section of the Malays had come to realize that change had to come to save Malaysia from UMNO. This turn of events at this moment is a mere illusion because UMNO is still the Federal Government and in the next election UMNO will massively stuff the ballot boxes. If I may say so, the most important institution for a coup d’tat is well placed and entrenched by UMNO judges and my namesis is that fat woman judge Zainon binti Mohd. Ali and from my own experience with Judge Zainon binti Mohd. Ali, either through ignorance of the law or sheer disrespect of the law will dare to decide my wife’s petition in breach of the penal code and hence had herself committed several crimes. This piece of comedy is unprecedented in all of legal history anywhere in the Commonwealth.

This morning I read an article in Malaysians Unplugged on Dato Seri Anwar, and the author raised issues whether Dato Seri is or is not the Anwar of before his incarceration on trumped up criminal charges. I believe this line of enquiry is both futile and irrelevant. We just cannot assess a man’s character under any circumstances. I had some one who I held as a dear friend for over 65 years and I just was unable to know that he was all along one of my worst enemy. However, the point that I want to put across is that in politics and the choice that we ordinary man in the street has to make to vote in a good government does not require that we know Dato Seri or not.; ALL THAT IS REQUIRED OF US IS TO ACCEPT OR DENY WHAT HE SAYS HE WANTS FOR MALAYSIA. If what Dato Seri wants for us is what we as voter wants, then it is Dato Seri who we will vote for as our government. Is Dato Seri a truly a good man ? That question is to me, not relevant. I have never ever met Dato Seri but what he wants for Malaysia is what to my mind what I want and to all Malaysians I can only say that UMNO’s policy of race, with emphasis for Malays as the superior race is WRONG AND WILL BE NON PRODUCTIVE FOR MALAYSIA.

I dare say that our Malaysian founding fathers like the Tengku even as he kicked out Singapore from the Federation realized that what Lee Kuan Yew said made sense and yet he felt that the Malays wanted a race based Malaysia and he acceded to their demands; and now after 50 years of independence both the Tengku and lee Kuan Yew are both right, and to say the least Malaysia took the wrong path. To this point in time (50 bloody years) Malaysia will have a “window of opportunity to get back on the ‘rail”. Contrary to UMNO’s and the Malays misled by UMNO Malaysia has not progressed at all and if I may say so myself, Malaysia had regressed because Malaysia has a 3rd world education system and Malaysia has descended into a spiral of LAWLESSNESS. You will disagree but ask yourself if you had any laudable achievements in these 50 years ? Singapore had nothing but dirt and of course a predominantly Chinese and Indian population; and they have gone into such tremendous race into the front ranks of developed nations BECAUSE SINGAPORE HAD A MODEL THAT IS INCLUSIVE, NOT EXCLUSIVE.

I had said earlier that after this 2008 election Malaysia merely has a WINDOW FOR CHANGE and we all are hanging our hopes on an Anwar led coalition to bring about change, This change is merely a hope because it can still de-rail. Affirmative action is an illusion that is difficult to wean off and may still return to de-rail our hopes. THE MAIN AND No ! priority is to restore a first world judiciary so that the laws will be respected and strictly enforced. What is the use for the government to legislate when the courts will not respect the laws ? To entrench an ethical, honest and corruption free judiciary, the PKR led government must totally dismantle the UMNO machinery that has been put in place to hold an iron grip on retention of power and government.

My the No. 1 issue in my list of priority is to remove the number of UMNO judges on the bench of the High Court and for that purpose, I recommend my wife’s petition and the abuse of power that was perpetrated by Judge Zainon binti Mohd. Ali will be the first act to restore independence of the judiciary on the saying, “kill a chicken to scare a monkey”.

It was not the internet..The sleepy head lost it..and KJ helped with his mad monkey antics..and the sexist MP also did their part. The mad krisman also did his golden share to lose votes. zakria palace getting away with a tiny slap on the hand..also worked against PM. Extremist racists UMNO delegates wanting to have blood of fellow malaysians is also a reason. The scorpene minister with the mongolian story also fired up the imagination. The infamous over reaction to Hindraf, and the senseless demolition of 100yr old places of worship is also a reason. Many more reason....but hell no..internet...no...no..never...According to UMNO, internet is used for booking air ticket only.

Muhammad Muhd Tahi, being cock-eyed, can never ever see a field as level. Or else how could he had millions to buy property in AAustralia while many of his fellow citizens can't afford low cost housing in his "level playing field" country?

And what is your problem? Corruption issit? All those billionaires you mentioned.. YOU TOO can be one. Just play the game.

In a world of corruption, do you think money is an edge? If Samy wants RM 100 million for a project, if all the bidders are prepared to pay, what then is the edge?

You think Vincent and Ananda or Patrick got where they are cuz they know the PM? Do you know how much work and kau tau one has to do to play in that field? Do you think its confined to the few? Go check Vincent's background. What was he before? So he may not have worked ethically to achieve what he is today, but you too have the same opportunity. Maybe your rules and principles are not the same as Vincent, but please do not say that it was a hand-out.

I should know, I have been in the position to exploit these opportunities. Bottom line, I have a bit of ethics and principles but mostly, I dun think I can stomach the kau tauing, apple polishing and putting in the extra effort to socialize. I am happy getting the 'crumbs' that is good enough to sustain my business.

If anyone wants to be a billionaire, I can truly say the opportunity is still there and it just about how much work and cerita keling one have to put in.

For the rest of us, we too lazy and rather bitch about it.

how can this man with 2 muhammad in his name blame the ICT? i remember reading somewhere that the internet penetration in our country is very small (forgot how many percent). so don't blame the internet.
as yap pointed out it is umno's racist brand of nationalism that is to blame, nothing else. so many issues had propped out prior to the election. they had incensed just about all the other races/religion, yes even their own malays. artchan mentioned mongolian and hindraf. then there is this christian issues of confiscating bibles, not allowing to use allah and so on. the christians were angry, the hindus were angry, the buddhists were angry, the muslim were angry - all were angry at UMNO. when can UMNO ever admit that?? they keep on blaming other things.

Maybe the man is talking about man vs phantom. That is why not level. THey're more rakyat than phantoms.

The Cabinet ministers in UMNO scorned at the bloggers and then lost big in the election. Then along comes a Muhammad who says the the playing field was not level? Because of the stupidity and arrogance of the UMNO ministers? This is surely the Joke of the Year!
