Perak govt. giving more land titles to farmers

The Perak Government is now considering giving land titles to farmers.

State senior executive council member Ngeh Koo Ham said the state was aware that vegetable farmers, ornamental fish breeders and pomelo growers had been asking about the status of their land.

Ngeh said the farmers can be assured that the state has their best interest in mind. "Our policy is to enrich, empower and liberate the people," he said.

Perak Mentri Besar Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin, in announcing the land titles for the villagers, said this would allow long-time residents to enjoy the “fruits of their patience” and benefits of the new coalition government.

Asked how the state planned to carry out the monumental task, Ngeh said the state legal adviser had been tasked to look into the matter.

On Perak Umno Youth’s claims that the state’s announcement would marginalise Malays, Ngeh stressed that the new state government would not sideline bumiputras.

“The move to give land titles (to planned villages and new villages) is to correct an injustice of the previous administration,” he added.
