Raja Petra: Malaysia's 2 Justice System

Today, I would like to cut and paste a portion of what Raja Petra wrote in his blog No Holds Barred:

Tun Dr Mahathir’s father was born in India. But Tun Dr Mahathir can vote opposition. He can even oppose Umno like he is doing so now. In fact, he can even become the Prime Minister. He is not an ungrateful immigrant who should be sent back to India. Tian Chua, however, can’t oppose Umno. Tian Chua, whose family settled in Malaya long before the Portuguese came in 1511, is an immigrant. And if he is not happy and if he opposes Umno then he should go back to China. And Umno Johor regrets giving Tian Chua citizenship in 1957 but does not regret giving Tun Dr Mahathir citizenship.

Why? Because Tun Dr Mahathir is Muslim while Tian Chua is not. But if Tian Chua circumcises and takes on the Muslim name of Musa Bin Susah and marries a Malay woman, then he need not go back to China and Umno does not regret giving him citizenship in 1957.

The Malays have a very warped view of justice. Malays practice two standards of justice. There is one standard for the Malays and another for the non-Malays. And 90% of the tax is paid by the non-Malays and 10% by the Malays, says Tun Dr Mahathir. But 10% of the scholarships must go to the non-Malays and 90% to the Malays. And when they propose to change this to 40% for the non-Malays and 60% for the Malays, the Malays raise a hue and cry. And they call this justice. And they say Islam is about justice.

If this is an example of Islamic justice then I just shudder to think what would happen if Muslims start becoming unjust.

What is Islam?

Read what Imam Mohamed Baianonie said. The message is clear. And it is the message of the Quran and of the Prophet Muhammad. Do I really need to explain things further or is what Imam Mohamed Baianonie said self-explanatory enough?

What is Islam? Is Islam just about rituals? What would rituals be without akidah? And what is the foundation of Islam? The foundation of Islam is justice. Islam is all about justice and nothing but justice. Without justice there would be no Islam. Muslims talk about the syariah and about the hudud legal system. Is not the syariah and hudud about justice? Are Muslims not taught that they must subscribe to the syariah and hudud because these are God’s laws and God deals with justice?

You just can’t separate justice from Islam. Without justice there would be no Islam. Islam would not exist without justice. Islam, with mere rituals minus the justice, would not be Islam. Saddam Hussein performed the rituals of Islam. But Saddam was not just. So Saddam was ousted and hanged by the neck until he died because he just performed the rituals of Islam minus the justice that Islam makes mandatory. Justice, justice, justice. That is what Islam decrees. And a ‘good’ Muslim who performs the rituals of Islam but is not just is put to death. That is Islam and that is how Islam dispenses justice.

Go read yourself at Malaysia’s two systems of justice

Though PRK's writing is crude and brute, the fact remains is that many people just don't understand or refuse to accept the plain doctrine and philosophy of Islam, that is, Islam is truly about Justice and Love, without exceptions. Instead, the Malays here and the Afghans have made Islam to a fearful religion, and to those who wanted to learn more about Islam, they are caused to retreat and observed the behaviors of Muslims who had made the religion to constitute fullness of discrimination - kafir, they called all others.

hear hear! the problem stems from the fact the malay RACE is inherently tied to the islamic RELIGION. so all line between those concepts are blurred.

i've got it easy. i don't believe in god and i'm hardly chinese.

aku anak malaysia and everybody should be free to be whoever they are without imposing it on others.

Polytikus,

It is a great honor to have you pen comments here.

I don't think it is a fact that the Malay race is inherently tied to the Islamic religion which cause the blurring of the concepts of Islam.

The concepts of Islam was made blurred and controversial because of Umno and PAS. However, PAS has improved and have more of those intellectuals managing the party and they tend to be less controversial though I'm still suspicious.

Umno prefers to edit and pick verses isolately and randomly to justify their contentions and promote support from the Malays and at the same time instil fear in the Malays using the Ketuanan Concept which makes them suspicious of all the other communities.

True Islam is about Justice and Love; no exception and it is a beautiful religion.

Islam has nothing to do with skin color and creed; it is universal and it is intended to reach out to the whole wide world.

mave,
u r right in pointing out the similarity between the Malaysian-Muslim-Islam and Afghan's-Islam.

things will change only when all this manipulation of the religion by UHMNOputras via convenient selective cut-and-paste of the Quran or the Hadith. but at the same time, education will be very crucial in order to wake up the sleeping generation of Malay. the sleeping pill effect induced by all the NEP, quota etc is damaging to every Anak Malaysia. i reiterate...EVERY ONE OF US.

Maverick SM said...

CK,

The fact is that the fear factor and phobias induced are indepth and calcified within the mental belief system which will take centuries to correct and rectify.

Islam, as many of the Malay Muslims practise here, is simply a religion of convenience.

It boggles the mind every time I see non-Malay students yelling "Demi agama, bangsa dan negara!"

Don't these "educated" teenage buffoons realise that they do not qualify for the agama, bangsa and negara they are bragging about?

Excuse me, Mr Maverick SM, can you please tell me just how many countries practise the "True Islam" you mention above? One? Two? Zero!! And does islam hadharee qualify as true islam?

Bravo to RPK for the fantastic article. Hope that BolehLand has more Muslims like RPK.

Gongkaukau,

I don't think I can agree with you; there are many Muslims who are devoted to Allah and have good understandings of Islam.

Denzook,

It is not the question of how many countries practise true Islam; it is the concern of individuals towards the divine being and what Islam promotes - the virtues, love and good behaviors.

We shouldn't be myopic and look at the issue of countries, but rather the beauty of the religion itself.

Each of us should try and read the Quran and get a better understanding of the religion and what we can derive of by practising the thoughts and virtues enunciated.

Moo,

I don't think that's the point; I am not here to promote RPK but rather his emphasis of the virtues of Islam. We should not be led to bigotry or political discrimination but more towards what is right, just and reasonable. RPK is a man whose philosophy is virtuous and fair. That is salutary.

Thanks for the piece from RPK, as this will help many non-muslim Malaysians understand that it is not the religion that is the problem but it is merely those who choose to interpret the teaching for their own benefits.
I believe all religions, be it Islam, Buddhist, Hinduism, Christianity all have one thing in common and that is to be just, to fight against wrong and to be good human being. It is when certain groups who have their own agenda's to protect uses religion as a cover or blanket and make it justifiyable.
For those non-muslim Malaysian like me, I also hope that you all can understand that 2 wrongs does not make it right and retaliation by hatred slurs and bigotry only lead to more chaos. We are all intelligent and civilised enough than to do that. Let's work together towards a better future for our children.
Again, thank you for your RPK's piece and yours as I also hope many non-muslim Malaysians will see it that religion is not the cause of the problem but the corrupted governance of Malaysia is. I hope this will help all Malaysians be more united and stop using racial issues(as some politicians who uses this to gain mileage) as I fear what would become of our future generations if these racial hatred do not stop.

TOOLAN,

I absolutely agree with you. Two wrongs don't make one right. We have to be rational and wise.

CaptainCaveman said...

Yes! TOOLAN, all religions have one thing in common and that is to promote Justice, Peace and Love to human race.

History had shown me that it is we, HUMANS greed for more wealth and power uses religions as cover to 'justify' their corrupted ways.

Maverick SM said...

CK,

I agree with you. What we are seeing is that this greed and crave is getting insidious and mammoth.
