Wireless Router Problem

I could not connect to the internet yesterday.

The system tray indicates there's connection.

Last night, I called up Streamyx Technical Services and asked them to reset the port. But it still didn't work. So they gave me a report number and said it will take 2 working days to get the technician to check.

To my surprise, today the technician called up at 10am and immediately came to my place. He just fixed a new modem and a manual dial-up and it works.

What's the problem? I don't know and he don't know. He says it is my wireless router and the settings. When I used auto-dial it doesn't work. I had to use manual dial and it works. So I can't use the wireless now. I had to know the reason for the problem. I am blur-blur.

Can someone help explain?

N/B: Thank you Streamyx and TMNET; and most of all, thank you Ramesh Kumar (the technician).

mave! I had the same problem too!

Most logical answer. Lightning.

I had my modem replaced (FOC) and had to buy myself a new wireless router.

Am unsure tho, because I hear a lot of problems like this recently.

Maverick,

Lately in Penang, the Telekom technicians are busy to replace the copper wire with fiber optics.
Some modem may not work with the new cabling; my unit also got the same problem before the technician replaced me another unit.

Sandyow,

So, it's the router's problem? I am puzzled.

HC,

But KL they are still copper wired?

Maybe your wireless router has been reset to default settings?

It is recommended to set the wireless router, then save a copy of the configuration to a file, restore it when the wireless router went amok.

I mean it can be combo of various problem. E.g. the DSL modem gone, the wireless router reset, the wireless router WAN port fried.

So the connection like

Streamyx --- DSL modem --- Wireless router

Many single point of failure in between.

Malaysia home actually are prone to lightning. So fix line telco like Telekom suppose to change the copper to wired.

Moot,

You were right; the blady router I had to reset and now it works. Thanks for your guide.

Denzook,

I am happy that Ramesh Kumar did not charge me anything; but I bought a TM modem from him as a standby unit.

Hi Mav,

I somehow find all these electronic, digital stuff work in a very technical manner where sometime even the 'specialist' in this field can't really tell you what is the real problem

CaptainCaveman,

I agree that the digital stuff can be complex and perplexed; but I think those I.T. guys knows the solution and Moo_t had given me the solution.

Zewt,

In my case it wasn't Streamyx; it was my router.
