Raja Nazrin: Religious officers must not be influence by political leaders

Religious officers must be free from politics or the influence of political leaders, said the Regent of Perak Raja Dr Nazrin Shah.

“Islamic affairs should not be allowed to be politicised and mosques and surau should not be made a stage for political activities.

“They should instead be an instrument to inculcate unity and unite the people,” he said after meeting the state’s Orang Besar Jajahan and district religious officers here Wednesday.

Raja Nazrin said activities, which could lead to the people breaking up, should not be allowed to occur in mosques and surau.

He said the Orang Besar Jajahan, as palace officials in the districts, should be the eyes and ears of the Sultan.

They should monitor activities related to Islam at their respective districts and give advice.

“They should also report to the Sultan if there are any wrongdoings related to religion and activities which occur at mosques,” he said.

For a start get rid of a mufti that almost started a near riot on rumours of mass conversions of muslims to catholics. We don't need this kind of Mufti.

Cakap mahu serupa bikin.

what does that say about groups like PAS then?

Islamic affairs in a Sate comes under the jurisdiction/purview of the Sultan and thus the Masjid`s position.Only islamic issues are highlighted. He cant speak about the church, temple and kuil.

Now, whats going on in those places? Are they apolitical too? I am curious

Beeranyone,

Beeranyone,

I think you are wrong.

Firstly, the Monarchy is the King and the ruler of our country. The essence is that the rulers do not interfere with the administration of the states and the government; but if the government do acts that impinged on the rights of the rulers or the citizens, then the ruler must act as provided in the constitution, for example, Article 153, and also all other Articles such as those regarding freedom, voting, liberty, religion, etc.

Take note Islam is a religion encompassing spirituality and the governmental system administration. However, what the Sultan said is that those leaders who manage the mosques should not used it to practice partisan politics, that is, aligning themselves to a certain political party; nor to use it to attacked the other religions of non-Muslims.

What will be allowed is the doctrines of political philosophy and the understanding of the knowledge, culture and customs of a social-political system.

Artchan,

For that, I agree with you in total.

Warc,

Your statement is too wide and subjective; could not answer.

Harun,

We don't have to tell PAS. I do agree that PAS is also a party that abuses this position and they are wrong. PAS should also consider this advice from the Sultan of Perak.
