Karpal and his song: 'Singh is King'

Karpal warned Umno Youth not to play games with him and likened himself to the recent Bollywood blockbuster 'Singh is Kinng'.

A day after proclaiming that 'Singh is King', Karpal Singh finds himself mobbed by a group of angry Umno Youth members at the Parliament lobby.

At about 2.30pm, the wheelchair-bound Karpal was surrounded by about 30 Umno Youth members, who tried to prevent him from entering the Dewan Rakyat and demanded he apologise.

Karpal telephoned fellow DAP MP Fong Po Kuan, who arrived with a 'rescue team'.

During the ensuing drama, DAP MP for Segambut Lim Lip Eng claimed that he was assaulted as he tried to help Karpal escape the pushing and shoving which broke out at one of the entrances to Parliament.

According to Lim, he was hit a number of times on the face and his body.

Among the mob leaders were Serdang Umno Youth chief Ungku Salleh Ungku Jamal, Gombak Youth chief Megat Zulkarnain Omar Din and Petaling Jaya Utara Youth chief Lat Sharizan Abdullah.

Umno Youth secretary Abdul Rahman Dahlan confirmed members of the influential party wing were involved in the scuffle.

"It's a very serious accusation by Karpal as an experienced MP. We have 700,000 members and we might not be able to control all of them," he told AFP.

The opposition parliamentarians also complained that security personnel did not intervene until they made noise.

Karpal had in Parliament yesterday accused his political opponents for sending two bullets in the mail.

"Where did the damn Umno Youth fellows get the bullets?" Karpal asked. "Singh is King. I am not afraid. They made 100 police reports, sent me two bullets and demonstrated."

In the morning, Umno Youth deputy chief Khairy Jamaluddin in an unrelated press conference challenged Karpal, whom he described as an "arrogant MP who thinks he knows everything", to repeat his accusation outside of the Parliament building.

"It is a wild and insane allegation... Khairy told reporters at the Parliament lobby.

"DAP always talks of a world class parliament but their chairman behaves in a very uncivilised and rude manner," added the Rembau MP.

Khairy said more than a hundred police reports were filed against Karpal when he threatened to sue Perak ruler, Sultan Azlan Shah, over the political turmoil in the state.

The Umno Youth leader urged the Attorney-General's Chambers to look into the reports and take action.

"We want to remind him that Umno Youth is not playing games and Karpal is the one who is playing with the sentiments of the rakyat, he is playing with fire.

"If he does not repent, then it would only serve to aggravate our anger and the anger of the people," he warned.

Umno Youth member Mukhriz Mahathir said Karpal should be charged with sedition for the bullets comment, and that he should show more respect to the constitutional monarchy.

Lessons Learned:

Singh may be king, but Umno Youth members can be terrifying as their leaders proclaimed that they could not control their own members, and the security personnel at the parliment also could not control them too. I'm not sure whether the police are able to control them at all and we can't be sure whether the Prime Minister and his ministers can control them too. We are also not sure whether they can be controlled at all.

But I think if money is thrown around, they could possibly be controlled to some extend. That's after all, is money politics; which do work, at times.

if they are angry, they can take the laws into their own hands?
KJ, where did you study? Oxford? Its more like Oxland.
UMNO Youth is the law just because it has 700,000 members? Where are you, the cops? UMNO Youth untouchables?
If Karpal has maligned you all in UMNO Youth, cant you guys just sue him? Have to use violence, right coz the mob mentality isnt easy to get rid, no?

When racial riot really happened....it is too late to repent. Think, who will be the greatest loser?

People think it won't happen just because it's 2009. But if things go on like it is and there is no action taken on provocative statements I believe it will happen soon. This old man singh looks like he is itching for a fight. He should be put behind bars. And that goes for anyone including UMNO members.

What I remember during 1964 riot in Singapore is something I cannot and will never forget. It's painfully ugly. The young think it is some sort of a computer game. A play thing.

Freedom of speech and the openness that Pak Lah allows is a big mistake. People are not ready to be responsible.

They sure can pay their members to be "out of control"! They claim having 700K members? It says a lot when kj could only garner 1K or so for the demo in Perak recently? Cakap saja besar, kepala kecik! Poorah! These are the very people yang "melacurkan" bangsa Melayu!

Thing always follow in sequence.

Ever since they slaughtered/sacrificed cattles within the boundary of that august house(?), the sanctity of the Parliament is lost!

What next?

Suspension of the Parliament?

I have no sympathy for Karpal bcoz he knew what was coming, in fact welcome it; part of his strategy as always, when he challenge the UMNO youth to come forward and called them 'Celaka'. Saw it in TV.
As for parliament; alas, looks more like a circus with improper behaviour from all sides.. It's more like a Sumo Wrestling Ring than any intellectual forum..

That is the sort of Heroism & patriotism our education system has instilled in our youths today?

We should ask ourselves the more pertinent questions:

Why did they do this?

Who asked them to do this?

Who let them in?

Why weren't they arrested?

What sort of men are these?

To me they are definitely kurang ajar to even THINK of abusing an old man in a wheel chair for something he said

Yes. Karpal is WRONG to say what he said.

Oh. Hang ON a sec!

Isn't Kerisamuddin (a menteri pelajaran - no less!) also WRONG for raising the keris & wanting to bathe it in Chinese Blood?

Can the Chinese bitchwhip him for that too?

What's worst? Saying Singh is king & celaka or sahying bathing the keris in someone's blood????

What is more disturbing is our future political leaders ie SIL and SOM (son of M)CONDONING this action!!!

How would THESE 2 "well educated gentlemen" like to see 30able bodied men treating THEIR fathers the same way?

Malaysia is well & truly F**ked!!

This is the lesson UMNO wants to teach all other dessidents.

"If we can do this to someone in parliament with impunity, you can't even imagine what we will do to you!"

Get the facts right. Hisyamuddin didn't call any chinese celaka or monkey.. Just theatrics, symbolism. Anybody with an aota of thinking faculty know this, but some anonymous shooters choose not to use the God given faculty.. If Lim GE don the dragon mask, would anyone feel so threatened, enough to hurl unwarranted abuses... Just think reasonably.. Unless there's nothing there to think with..

Anonymous said...

gukita,

it is 'think about', not 'think with'.

if someone calls you #$$# and the other person gives u the middle finger, is there any difference between the symbolism and the ...?

Umno Youth chief Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein says he will back the Umno Youth members who created a fracas in Parliament yesterday.

Anon,

All politicians play rhetorics. Waving the Kris in Parliament is not anybody's idea of welcomed heroics, not even to us Malays. In fact we feel shame that he choose such a display. You dont unsheath a Kris in public. Same as Japanese with Samurai sword. I doubt Hisyamuddin know how to use one anyway.. But, doesnt mean he's going to run amok and kill all chinese, indians APs, MCAs and MICs included by waving it. A Kris is very much an intrinsic Malay dress code, symbolising the spirit of fighting for one's honour, or the country's honour. Similiar as Japanese sword part of Samurai dress code.

This has nothing to do with swearing and showing middle finger. As for this swearing part, Singh Karpal started it with his `Cilaka' swearing and challenging the UMNO youth to come forward. You cant deny that. Everybody who see the prime news that day can testify. Singhs are proned to bravado, eventhough he know he can not carry it through..

Karpal, Karpal. See what you have wrought upon your own country men.

Courtesy of STAR: Two men had to be hospitalised after they were allegedly beaten up by about 50 Mat Rempits who then robbed them in Jalan Pahang, Titiwangsa, near here.

According to one of the victims, Parminder Singh, the incident was supposedly witnessed by a man who looked like a plain-clothes police officer, as he was in possession of a firearm.

“The man not only did nothing to help us but instead urged the assailants to beat us harder,” said Parminder, 21.

The incident happened in the wee hours of last Wednesday when Parminder along with his friend, Sunildip Singh, 25, were travelling in a car towards the city when suddenly a Mat Rempit swerved in front of them and demanded they stepped out of the vehicle.

“When we alighted, we found ourselves suddenly surrounded by about 50 Mat Rempits. Some of them accused us of ramming into the guy who swerved in front of us,” said Parminder.

Without warning, several of the Mat Rempits began beating them with helmets, iron rods and knuckle dusters.

The mob then took his wallet and cellphone.

Sentul OCPD Asst Comm Zakaria Pagan confirmed the incident and said
“Investigations are under way.”

Looks like, fresh from their victory in Parliament, the rempits sought out fair game on our streets. The OCPD Zakaria Pagan should work fast to combat such acts of paganism.
