PETALING JAYA (July 20, 2009): The award of a lucrative contract to drug firm Venturepharm Asia Sdn Bhd to construct a Malaysia pavillion at the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai has raised more questions, with a member of Parliament asking why the first tender process in which Venturepharm did not participate was cancelled.

Wangsa Maju MP Wee Choo Keong, who first raised questions on Venturepharm in Parliament last month, told theSun yesterday that Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen must explain why she cancelled the first process of tender.

"In the first tender opened on March 13 and closed on April 3 this year, nine companies submitted proposals. Venturepharm was not on the list," he said.

"It was opened during Datuk Azalina Othman's tenure as Tourism Minister. But when the new minister took office, a fresh tender was opened on May 13 and closed on June 4. Venturepharm came in only in the second tender and its proposal was not the cheapest."

Wee asked why Venturepharm, which has no prior experience in this field of work, was given the job.

The contract sum was reported as RM19 million, but Wee said the sum was RM19.998 million.

Ng Yen Yen has denied any political link that could have influenced the decision to award Venturepharm the contract.

Venturepharm's director Chen Oyan Yun Shai was unavailable for comments. She was overseas.

Chen's son Chin Fook Kwon, 24, is involved in another company Daro Worldwide Sdn Bhd, which was awarded a contract to operate the Tourism Call Centre.

Two losing bidders in the tender express their disappointment: "We lost some RM80,000 just preparing for the bidding."

Rule of thumb... if you are going to do it, make sure the amount is BIG.

The bigger the better, it goes to shows you damn powerful with big 'cables' all the way to Putrajaya

So always remember, BIG think BIG & you are safe. Only small fry got fried or got macced.

What to do. The MACC is not good in big numbers.

This is the reason why they go for ikan bilis instead of big fishes.

I've never felt so much anger towards our BN govt in general and our PM in particular. Such a senseless death .. and why is Khir Toyo still not being hauled up by the MACC?

the best solution to deal this 'case' should be interogate Ng Yen Yen and also Azalina, first.

followed by throeing them from 2ft height kindergarten school children table to the ground to get their confessions.

thereafter circumcise WCKeong birdie for washing dirty linens of PR in public.

somewhow, both Azalina and NYY could have strong possibility benefitting from this ugly design pavillion. toilet bowl looks nicer!

what justice? said...

BN people get away with corruption of the biggest proportions and the MACC selectively hope to kill off Pakatan reps over a mere RM2,400 when it's not even established that there is any hanky panky?????

Surely there are also some fellas in MACC who did not take part in the death of Teoh. How can you keep quiet. By keeping quiet, you are also a party to the crime.

So i ask of you...Can sleep easy ah?

So what's the accepted amount for bribery to be brought to justice? Below RM2.4k?, RM100k and above? A bribe is a bribe..

mr and mrs taiwanese,

no worries coz you have the backing of MCA.

sure MACC will have to be seen to do their job. have a cup of coffee in Massalam and case will be stamped "NFA" just like other cases involving BN. Last i know MCA is still with MCA. but health warning though. dont get too near the 14th floor.
