PAK-LAH'S DREAM OF "BUILD THEN SELL CONCEPT" ON HOUSING

Build and sell concept to protect house buyers:

PETALING JAYA: "The Government is considering the possibility of making developers build houses first before selling them," Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said.

The Prime Minister said the Government would find the best way to implement this. "I think it is not right to pay first before you get your house. That should not be the case," he said at a press conference after attending the civil servants� Workers Day gathering at the National Institute for Public Administration Malaysia (Intan) here yesterday."

In response to this suggestion, REDHA President Datuk Jeffrey Ng voiced his concern that many property developers will not be able to fund the projects to completion and such move will dampened the property industry, create an upsurge in house prices, and increase the risks of borrowers and lenders.

I do believe that if the Political Masters can make this happen, it will surely provide better protection to house buyers and any price increase should be moderate in view of the current property glut that is still existing.

This move will inevitably flush out most, if not all, of the weak property developers, including those organizations (property developers) that are listed in the stock exchange, particularly those poorly managed ones. It should also help improve the standard and quality of houses as the buyers would then have the opportunity to view those completed houses before buying.
