UTAR RECOGNIZE UEC AS ENTRY QUALIFICATION

25th. May 2004, The Sun reports

UTAR council President Datuk Seri Ling Liong Sik said that University Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) recognize the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) for entry admission to Bachelor Degree courses. According to LS Ling, UTAR was given the nod by the Government when the application to set up UTAR was approved.

"IT WAS CLEARLY STATED IN THE LETTER OF APPROVAL," LS Ling told Sin Chew Daily on Sunday. According to Ling, he wondered why the Government has to impose this restrictive requirement (the SPM Bahasa Malaysia requirement)when it is trying to attract foreign students to study in Malaysia.

The Government has always express their desire to make Malaysia an International Education Center and hope to draw much foreign funds to Malaysia. At the same time, the Government or should I say, the National Accreditation Board (LAN) has set up policies and rules to make sure that vision of Making Malaysia the International Center for Education will not be fulfilled. Maybe LAN officials don't want it as the move will give them more work with the same pay!!!HO!HO!HO!
