Research University
Public universities must meet certain criteria, including having a higher number of postdoctoral academic staff, before they can be called a research university, said Higher Education Department director Prof Datuk Dr Hassan Said. Prof Hassan said the Higher Education Ministry has come up with specific guidelines as to what constitutes a research university. Among the other conditions are that the institutions should have adequate facilities and a high number of postgraduate students involved in research activities.
Prof Hassan said that although most universities should already have the capacity of becoming a research university, they would still have to meet the requirements endorsed by the ministry.
“Research is of great importance to any higher-learning institution. We will determine whether it is being conducted at a high, low or moderate level. “Our aim is to provide assistance and incentives to universities in order to promote high-standard researches to be carried out,” he told reporters after launching the Universiti Putra Malaysia Faculty of Veterinary Medicine open day yesterday.
More funding and incentives would also be allocated to increase the quality of research and development in universities.
It took the Government and it's administrators umpteen years to talk about this? Oh my GOD, finally, there's glimpse of light at the end of the tunnel. Or, is it just mere mirage, illusion and pissing dreams; something Ibrahim Bajunid calls "Offensively Boastful", Mere Puff, Misrepresentation - talks that don't match deeds & No Actions and only for the press to print and all of us to read-only?
