WATER TARIFF
Members of Parliament voiced their concern pertaining to the issue of water privatization and the imminent increase in water tariffs by concession holders.
“What guarantee can the Government give that the tariffs will not be raised once water is privatized,” asked Government backbencher, Datuk Mohamed Aziz, the MP for Sri Gading. “We all know the Bill will be passed but the most important thing we have to bear in mind is the rakyat’s fear that tariffs will go up,” he said. “Every year, 450,000 vehicles are registered but that does not stop toll hikes. What guarantee can the Government give that the tariffs will not be raised once water is privatized?”
Mohamed’s concern was echoed by his fellow MPs debating the Constitution (Amendment) Bill 2004, which seeks to transfer water management from State Government to the Federal Government, privatized it, and to establish a regulatory body to oversee its management.
Well, Murphy's Law will prevail - "WHATEVER YOU THINK CAN HAPPEN,WILL HAPPEN."
This is the price of crony capitalism. Malaysia Boleh Lagi!!!!
