Tunku Mahkota Speaks Out Loudly

"To all fathers, their children are angels but angels don’t behave this way.”

This is the statement from our beloved Tunku Mahkota of Johor and is directed to all rakyat of Johor, in particular, Johor Royalties.

Tunku Mahkota Johor, Tunku Ibrahim Ismail ibni Sultan Iskandar wants the culprits who allegedly gatecrashed and assaulted the guest at a wedding party on Rawa Island to apologise for their misbehavior.

The 20-year-old member of the Johor royal family arrested for an alleged atacked on guests in Rawa island claimed that it was the tourists who started the brawl. He claimed that he was invited to join the party and even offered drinks. Soon after, another woman, a 28-year-old German, approached him for a chat about surfing. “I saw her with a man earlier and asked if he’s her boyfriend. She said she’s single and the man was just someone she met in Singapore.” He claim that a bald man came over, threw his glass and pushed him in the chests. Words and blows were exchanged. “!I was attacked first.”

Eyewitnesses from the Singapore party have disputed the royal’s version of the events. Kenneth Bodahl from Norway, said he agreed that the yound royal had been talking with a German woman, but that is where the similarity ends.

“If he claimed he was talking to a married woman whom he thought was single and it caused jealousy and friction, I would ask him why he came back 4 times, every time with more people carrying things like belts and sticks.”

“When she (the German) left, he went to the dance floor and started pulling another woman from the dancing party, asking to dance with her. She refused and he tried to hit her.”

Kaspar Kvamme, 39, who hurt her fingers said:

“It was supposed to be a wedding extraordinaire, but the world just collapsed. I’ve lived in the world’s worst city and I’ve never felt the terror that I felt when I was there on the island that night.

When NST contacted the German woman, she said the royal was a bit tipsy, but there was nothing bad between them. She said she left after the chat.

What? He was tipsy? But, he is a Muslim? And he is in close proximity with another woman. And then, he started pulling another woman from the dancing party, asking to dance with her. She refused and he tried to hit her? And then, shouted to the tourists to asked them to leave the island? Did he owned it? The tourist paid their way to the destination and should be accorded their privileges and rights? This young chicko says, get out of my Island?

Tunku Mahkota had this to say: “The father of one of the men detained called me and told me his son was detained in a police lockup. His story was one-sided. To all fathers, their children are angels but angels don’t behave this way.”

To Tunku Mahkota, “These culprits must be dealt with properly and be brought to justice. There will be no cover ups as their behavior has brought shame to the state."

"What we’ve gained through Kembara Mahkota and the good rapport I’ve established with the rakyat seems to have been in vain. Sebab nila setitik, rosak susu sebelanga. (because of one drop of dye, a whole pot of milk is ruined.)”

“It shouldn’t have happened. I am angry because when Johor royalty is mentioned, it affect me directly. Yet these people are distant cousins of mine whom I don’t even see, and some are even blacklisted and banned from the Istana.”

Tunku further added: “The Rawa Island is run by some unscrupulous people. They harbour illegals and I have personally caught people stealing stones from the beaches. I caught them with 400 bags of stones and when I made a report to the authorities, they got away with just a fine. The resort operators also built chalets indiscriminately and some of these properties have encroached on beach fronts.”

So, what has the state government done so far to maintain law and order in Rawa island? Do they need more such incidents to happen before some enforcements are put in place? Will the state do something tangible to protect the tourists?
